Will China redeem themselves? Will Besiktas 2.0 trample over NA?
Don't think anyone except Korea is going to win this one though, but YFW/G2/RNG should be fun (I've already dismissed CLG, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised).
Unrelated, Poland is land of LR masters?

Are you sure G2 >> CLG? I have a feeling like NA might be closer to EU than last year :-. which means I won't be surprised by LMS getting 2nd place.

G2 play a super high pressure game and I don't think CLG can really adapt to it but we'll see. TSM's bot and mid don't go nearly as h.a.m. as G2, and the current meta allows G2 to hide Kikis' weaknesses behind Grasp of the Undying potato champs.
739 usually makes the LR threads for things and he is ;p

I will agree that CLG definitely looks like one of the weakest teams coming into MSI. However, a LOT of people were already discounting CLG in the NA LCS regular split, saying they're a 5th or 6th place team at best.
As far as CLG goes, I would not be surprised if they got 6th place but I would also not be surprised if they did in fact make top 4. CLG, for all intents and purposes, "should not have won the NA LCS spring split." Then again, Immortals should not have been 0-3ed by IMT but TSM showed that IMT had a poor read on the meta and suffered for it. And if IMT had not been exposed domestically, they likely would have been exposed internationally and then NA would have looked EVEN WEAKER if a 17-1 NA LCS team can't make a dent against international competition.
CLG this year has been a team with subpar mechanics but arguably the best team play and drafting in NA. It'll be interesting to see if this team play and drafting can get them further than bottom 2 at MSI
|
I only watch Champions and a little bit of NA LCS, so I can't really make any definitive predictions, but I believe CLG has one major advantage over most of their MSI competition: research. I believe they'll be more prepared to face teams like FW, SuperMassive, and maybe even RNG than those teams are for them. Whether this advantage will be enough to make up for potential deficiencies elsewhere remains to be seen, of course.
|
I like CLG's chances more the shorter the tournament because they are strategically good while having subpar mechanical talent even by NA standards.
|
The biggest advantage that CLG has going into MSI is that they're the best Western team to do a 1-3-1 or a 4-1 strategy. But it's literally the only thing they're good at, and in a BoX series any team that's done enough research on them will know that and can counter it or deal with it with adequate adjustments in pick/ban.
Assuming MSI is played on 6.8, I predict it as follows:
6th: Super Massive 5th: CLG 4th: Flash Wolves 3rd: G2 2nd: RNG 1st: SKT
If it's 6.9, then anything between 6th and 3rd can change places, because who the fuck knows just how balanced these new Mage items are (hint: there's a couple that are insanely OP). But RNG and SKT have the raw talent to push past the scrubs beneath them and face off in the finals. Assuming China shows up to play for a major international tournament.
And if SKT do win MSI, does this mean they do a 'Grand Slam' equivalent for League by holding the 4 most prestigious trophies (Champions, MSI, IEM, Worlds).

team/expected range
SKT 1
FW/G2/RNG 2-5
CLG 4-5
SM 6
anything beyond this and consider me extremely shocked.
Definitely within the realm of possibility that one of the 3 teams there could bomb out with CLG taking their place, but none of them bad enough to fall to SM. I wouldn't count on multiple bombing out with CLG not tho.
and anything besides SKT #1 would be a failure on their part.
the more specific prediction I have is
SKT, RNG, FW, G2, CLG, SM but honestly have not watched much of RNG/FW/G2 besides some finals
edit: actually, I think G2 will do better than what I listed. I had some reservations from what I heard about them having an extended break post finals, but they should be fine. meta is still fairly similar to before.

Can't see anyone taking game off SKT to be honest.
CLG will disappoint as usual. Only in G2 I have pretty high expectations.

EDIT: Big question for me is RNG, G2 and FW. CLG I kind of expect to be not deliver, though I think their ability to prepare improved a lot.
RNG looked decent, but LPL seems incredibly chaotic in play so I won't be surprised if any prepared team will beat them. On the other hand if they will prepare, they have the skills to be 2nd best. LMS is generally strong so FW might very well be 2nd strongest team. G2 I'm not sure. They dominated EU LCS but EU LCS seems a bit gutted compared to last year.
|
SKT will take it 100% but 2nd-5th is completely up for grabs. I feel like FW, CLG, G2, RNG are all pretty similar in skill as any one of them can take games off each other and one team didnt completely dominate their region by a large margin.
|
RNG interests me because Mata is very fun to watch. And interested for G2's mid.
CLG will have the Regi-era TSM problem where no matter how cool your triple gp5 TF and Karthus strats are it doesnt matter when your top laner gets solo'd even though he is ahead in gold and your midlaner goes 0-2 i nthe first 10 minutes.
|
Cant wait for everyone to cry about Riot casters and how "best casters ever" are not there and then not care about casters when MSI starts lol. If they had Pulse maybe i would just mute casters but now its whatever.
|
I have faith in FW to possibly take second. I'm on the LMS being underrated hype train. SKT are the favorites yet again though. I'd honestly root for any region to give them a run for their money.
|
Why is everyone overrating FW so much? I doubt any of you have even watched the finals. AHQ played terrible.

That argument only works in NA. CLG have gotten dumpstered in every international tournament.
