Not even sure if Monte can be considered an "insider". As far as I know he doesn't speak a word of Korean, so I don't see where he could get information from, aside from Chobro. I'm pretty sure that anyone who just watches every OGN match knows about as much as Monte about Korean LoL players.

He speaks korean.I mean he has lived for a few years there at this point you are bound to pick up the basics no matter what.
He does mention all the time on casts that he talked to players and shit.
They always have a translator for him when he's on Korean shows / being interviewed. Which means that he doesn't speak well enough to talk about LoL strategy in Korean I would assume. I don't think that he can have a conversation with players about LoL.

they had easier opponents as gahlo said. he's obviously very strong in a certain meta but his lack of aggression really limited how that team could play.
Eazyhoon shat on PawN just as many times as PaWn shat on him (if not more so just in terms of laning), with a far inferior supporting crew. In fact, any "victories" PawN had over Eazyhoon was often due to the immensely superior jungling of DanDy than anything else. Domestically speaking, Eazyhoon performance was comparable to that of PawN's, yes he never got the chance to style on the likes of Bjergsen with DanDy and MaTa getting all the necessary vision to wow those oh-so-important TSM fans, but he was already a top-calibre mid-laner.
Eazyhoon is a specific type of player that needs certain conditions to thrive, just like Dade. Yes, he is a not an all encompassing master of all trades like Faker is (who apart from Faker can claim that, is really my question), but on there is no one an this planet that does the things he is good at better than him. It's been that way for quite some time.

he talks to coaches and players
Take Kim Dong Jun for example. He talks to players constantly to check out the next up-and-coming player, or a player that is on a hot streak during scrims. He personally requests to observe scrims between Korean teams, and has a far more extensive idea of what goes behind the scenes than Montecristo will ever learn, and on top of that checks out the solo-que just to keep in touch with the personal biorhythms of notable players. This is just basic preparation, he even mentions stuff like NiceGameTV shows, which basically means he gets every single possible angle of a player he is about to assess down to the ground, whether it is what the coaches say about him, what he is like during the scrims, what the top players in solo-que think about his laning stylistic-wise, and the thoughts of various professional gamers.
Montecristo may have a grander scope of knowledge, especially when it comes to the other major regions, but when it comes to Korea alone, he doesn't even compare to Kim Dong Jun. Which is why he often misses out on the general consensus in Korea (which may be not always true, but guess what, it's more accurate than Montecristo), like when he tried to hype up the terrible bottom lane of KT Rolster A when Bang was shitting all over him during the laning phase, and dismiss SK Telecom S and Eazyhoon altogether, or pretend Looper was a mediocre player when a player like Gogoing (or whoever the fuck he rated above him) would have ruined what made Samsung Galaxy White so strong.
^ i'm not discounting eazyhoon's laning fundamentals, but in terms of game impact he's fairly predictable and limited outside of teamfighting.
it is true that eazyhoon never really loses lane but part of this is due to his conservative playstyle. but this also allows the other team to dictate the play. from their 0:3 vs ssw it was pretty clear that they stood no chance of advancing had they met ssw earlier in the bracket. pawn did not crush eazyhoon in lane but he was far more impactful in terms of making plays around the map.

I'll take it. As long as Pawn practiced with the team appropriately EDG is unbeatable.
