The Mid Season Invitational came to an end with EDward Gaming taking the crown over SK Telecom T1. EDG advanced to the playoffs in second place on the back of their loss to SKT. But then they bounced back and crushed ahq e-Sports Club 3-0 in the semifinals to reach the finals. On the other hand, SKT had a much harder time against the fourth seeded Fnatic and needed the full five games to take down the EU LCS representative.
SKT repeated their group stage victory with another decisive win, starting the series 1-0. EDG was not to be deterred, however, as they answered back with two convincing victories of their own. Backs against the wall, SKT subbed in Faker for game 4 and brought the series to a final game 5 confrontation. Ultimately, EDG's superior teamfighting, drafting, and in-game decision making gave them the game 5 victory, and Clearlove took the MSI's MVP award for his top-notch jungle play over the entire tournament. However, EDG's support, Meiko, should also be highlighted, as the most consistent member of EDG, always doing what was required with quite a few big plays in between.

Pretty hyped as well, hoping AHQ can show that their qualifying performance wasn't just a fluke. Also hoping that Besiktas can do something, although unlikely, I just wish that people would shut up about wildcard spots.
Blood and tears. No excuses for choking, jetlag, or format. All these teams are proven teams that can perform on stage with the huge amounts of pressure. The best team will win.
Bo1 in group stage is fucking joke. In Riot World 2 most consistent Western teams (TSM/Fnatic) didn't play each other since LCS started. I understand that they want to broadcast every game but making event 1/2 days longer isn't hard, especially when there're 2 events, like this in a year.
Bo1 is fine when one remembers what MSI is supposed to be. It's a quick exhibition in the middle of a season, like the all-star breaks in Major League Baseball, or National Hockey League, or National Basketball Association. Heck, MSI is pretty much one half of last year's all-stars (with the other, sillier half taking place towards the end of the year this time). It's a waste from their perspective to spend the money to extend the event by a couple more days, when it could be spent on the real spectacle, Worlds.

That's why Worlds are overrated and major system is way better. There is no real intercontinental competition outside of Worlds and IEM World Championship 2013 since IPL 5. Giving LCS 3 extra weeks for playoffs is fine but giving 2 days to MSI isn't? Welp, something is wrong then.
Given Riot's tendency to take cues from NA sports, I assume that a major system is something they would expressly not want. I think that the angle they're working with, is the 'everything over the course of a year builds up to one climactic event'. And hype accordingly to that. They want one huge celebration each year. And a major system would work directly against that, I believe. A significant ingredient of hype/anticipation is time. Having more frequent significant inter-regional competition means whatever 'steam'/anticipation built up just gets released over and over again. It'll never accumulate to the level Riot wants from the audience. They want that explosion of sheer desire that only a period of starvation can build up. That hunger that drives one mad.

I think the flip side to this is that if/when Korea/China dominate worlds western fans get real salty.

The difference is 99% of best players in the World are playing on regular basis against each other in NBA/NHL etc.
