Yeah as bad as the system is, the teams should have known how it was. Gambit clearly set up for a early team knowing that was the only way they could have advanced. MYM could have went for a turtle team.

I mean if they win that they're in, but the only way they aren't in is if Curse wins Azubu or they lose as quickly as they did.

Technically the first game against Blaze didn't matter since it wasn't used in the tie-break calculation. Only games between the tied teams are counted. Gambit really got off lucky.

CLG.eu is so lucky that they never end up in tie breakers. They would never get out.

lmao wasn't it already discovered through DotA tournaments that time-based tie-breakers are the dumbest thing ever?

You can call them lucky all you want, but the fact of the matter is that they won the games that mattered. They didn't decide how the tournament would be run, but they did succeed. That's all that matters. How close it was is irrelevant.

Maybe league is destined to repeat Dota's history. Soon the Chinese overlords will come to rule all or have they already come?

Tsm is even more lucky, they always get the easiest bracket and still manage to lose.

Also, I'd point out that in MYM vs Curse, Curse vs Gambit, and Gambit vs MYM, Blue team won all 3 games.

It's getting to the point where in games between "close" teams, Blue/Purple imbalance seems a bit too relevant.

they should seperate first pick and blue side and see where that leads to.

No they should always go for a Bo2 instead of Bo1's. As many have said it's alot more fair and easy to balance points out.

It doesn't fix the problem as it applies to map imbalance in Bo3s/Bo5s--the team that gets to have Blue side an extra time gets an advantage.

... which is why blind pick for the last set is ingenious.

I don't think that solves the issue either, though it lessens it if you believe that 1st pick has a significant draft advantage.

If you think the draft advantage is significant in relation to the map advantage, then it should be purple team that gets 1st ban/1st pick.

Or one team picks drafting order and the other picks side of field. No reason that you have to hard-link drafting order to side of field.

That's probably the better long-run solution, but in the short term, it's easier to hard link draft/map advantage because the client doesn't have an interface that supports disjointing the two in Tournament Draft games, and who knows if Riot is able or willing to devote development time to a more serious overhaul of the client interface to allow for that.

In fact, the same "controversy" happened during season 1 already. IEM never bothered to think of another tie-breaker system.

Really?

I think M5 played really sloppy. MYM deserves the spot as much as M5 does imo.

The curse vs. M5/GG game with olaf mid was really bizarre. Such bad execution by the entire team except Alex Ich.

i remember how they used to deal with the 3 way ties in bw, the 3 players face each other and whatever player wins two in a row(beating both teams) moves on; go until it's done~

such a downer and a black spot on a tournament i had such hype for t.t

M5 deserves it because they got it.

Wow MYM vs GBG neither team uses any AP champions. Most AP non-support on the board is Shen.

I see a lot of bitching about the tiebreaker system but not a lot of suggestions for fixing it. Given that this is a situation that's going to occur frequently with the Bo1 round robin-style events, and that having the three "tied" teams play another round of games is not an option (too time consuming, etc.), what would a "better" tie breaker be? Surely not K/D/A. In such a case, teams would have an incentive to not end games but instead try to rack up kills.

For all of its faults, at least game time is linked purely with winning. There's nothing else that's a factor besides how quickly you won. It incentives teams to not dick around by rather end the game at the earliest possible moment, which is what we should want them to do.

So unless you have a better suggestion that is realistic, try to keep your complaints to a simple, "That sucks for MYM/Crs. :-("
