I see a lot of bitching about the tiebreaker system but not a lot of suggestions for fixing it. Given that this is a situation that's going to occur frequently with the Bo1 round robin-style events, and that having the three "tied" teams play another round of games is not an option (too time consuming, etc.), what would a "better" tie breaker be? Surely not K/D/A. In such a case, teams would have an incentive to not end games but instead try to rack up kills.

For all of its faults, at least game time is linked purely with winning. There's nothing else that's a factor besides how quickly you won. It incentives teams to not dick around by rather end the game at the earliest possible moment, which is what we should want them to do.

So unless you have a better suggestion that is realistic, try to keep your complaints to a simple, "That sucks for MYM/Crs. :-("

People have suggested what OGN/IPL5 use instead. It's not just empty bitching. There is a tried method that is far superior to what ESL is using.

I dont see how the IPL5 system would be much better. That still has the problem with the blue/purple imbalance which is imo a much bigger issue than the time tiebreaker. Ultimately I think the IPL system involves even more luck for the winner than the IEM one. What we need to push for is bo2 like OGN.
Btw OGN uses KDA per minute to solve such tiebreakers. Maybe thats slightly better than just time tiebreakers, but its not much different really.

A wonderful and fair idea, Until you realize a match doesn't take 15 minutes but around an hour. It stops being realistic several seconds after said revelation.

Not while the Chinese/Taiwanese are still around bro.....

In the long run, Korea will still probably pull ahead based on the more centralized talent pool (LoL is the prime E-sport in Korea while DotA is still the elephant in the room when it comes to the MOBA playerbase in China) meaning more talent entering the professional scene over time--evidenced by the fact that while there are strong Chinese/Taiwanese teams, there are less of them.

In the short term though, yes, China/Taiwan can compete.

Dota 1 imploded, competitively, over night in China due to the switch of ACE, and Dota 2 does not have a large playerbase because the servers aren't stable and there aren't a lot of beta copies to go around. Size of player base matters far less than you think. It's not about the amount of talent you have, it's about the amount of talent you develop. By a strict player base analysis China, NA, and EU all have 5-10x the players South Korea has, yet all three regions have less pro teams. It's obviously not just a player count game.

Esport scene =/ player base. With far more support in regions such as South Korea they will pull out ahead.

Wow, SK seems to be really popular with the crowd. Did MYM get similar support yesterday? (missed their stage match, if they had one)

But the stream is already running, SK vs Frost is in pick phase.

Frost get Shen, TF, Kha'Zix. Probably going to be a stomp... What is SK thinking?
