It makes sense when Riot are trying to make pushes for LoL being the biggest ESPORT. They're trowing in a multi-million dollar prize pool but can't get insurance in basic features of competitive games that allow them to run without these kinds of delays. Sure, LAN may never be used by people who don't play competitively, but that's no excuse (besides, I'd play LAN with friends when we're on vacation and have to deal with mountain internet).

Wtf, LoL's business model relies on your playing on their servers and paying for skins/champs. So it's pretty much like an f2p MMO. If you play on LAN you can hack champs/skins etc, which invalidates their business model.

But it makes sense to have LAN for their own usage, for example whe they are hosting WC. Shure, but I'm talking about LAN as a standard feature for everybody. Only the skin/runes part are MMO. But the crux of the game is 5v5 or 3v3 that ends in around 30 minutes. It is just like your old usual RTS like WC3/CnC/AoE. It is not one continuous long game spanning hundreds of hours....

There's no point in having LAN for LoL for everyone. Yeah, they should have tournament LAN. But from a business standpoint there's no logical reason to have LAN for everyone else.
