It makes sense when Riot are trying to make pushes for LoL being the biggest ESPORT. They're trowing in a multi-million dollar prize pool but can't get insurance in basic features of competitive games that allow them to run without these kinds of delays. Sure, LAN may never be used by people who don't play competitively, but that's no excuse (besides, I'd play LAN with friends when we're on vacation and have to deal with mountain internet).

LoL's business model relies on your playing on their servers and paying for skins/champs. So it's pretty much like an f2p MMO. If you play on LAN you can hack champs/skins etc, which invalidates their business model.

Only the skin/runes part are MMO.

But the crux of the game is 5v5 or 3v3 that ends in around 30 minutes. It is just like your old usual RTS like WC3/CnC/AoE. It is not one continuous long game spanning hundreds of hours....

this has got too f-ing far. This set started almost 7 hours ago, were WAY behind on schedule now.
I mean come on riot, THIS IS A F-ING EMERGENCY. Let these guys finish their tournament and have no other people play league of legends for a bit.

But LoL's business model is much closer to the business model of an MMO. There's no point in having LAN for LoL for everyone.

Yeah, they should have tournament LAN. But from a business standpoint there's no logical reason to have LAN for everyone else.
