I agree with discouraging unprofessionalism but they should have been stopped after the picks/during the game or at least have clear rules that they can't do that. MLG was even boasting on Twitter about the "must-watch exciting ARAM finals".

Ok, just saw the tweet confirming that they considered splitting the prize money. Can't believe they were actually that stupid. Blows my mind.

Now I wonder if they just considered it or if there was an actual agreement, because if there was I would be rather surprised if they don't get at least a temporary ban from tournaments, including regionals and worlds.

they posted on twitter that they're gona release the full 40k prize pool to the 3-8 people. Seems like the right thing to do.

I'm really pissed about this right now I'm gona go somewhere else.

MLG's official statement is wholly lacking. Someone reading the statement(and the statement only) is not going to jump to the possibility of prize splitting and is likely to assume that it has something to do with the ARAM(their opinion on that will determine whether they think MLG is being petulant or making the right decision).

They need to issue a revised statement, containing at least some of the information from Adam's Tweets, so they can make it clear that this was indisputably the right decision.

I don't understand how anybody is defending crs/dig here or questioning MLG's actions. It blows my mind.

I'm not a fan of the first game. but I what I don't understand is MLG's explanation for their decision. Neither team forfeited a game, and it's clear from the Curse victory that Dignitas winning game one had nothing to do with a conspiracy to move them up in the rankings. The real reasoning is that the teams were unprofessional and made the competition look like a farce (at least for one game), This is a valid reason, but what I don't like is MLG being dishonest and pretending that Curse and Dignitas violated an explicit rule. That makes this organization look 100 times more unprofessional thatn either Curse or Dignitas in my opinion.

They heard the teams talking about splitting the money.

If they did then what they is is definitely fair, but I haven't found any MLG statements that say that is the reason. I wouldn't be surprised if the two teams did do it but I also would like to see some proof or even an actual accusation of money splitting. Maybe I just missed it though so if you could link me to where they talk about money splitting I'd like to read it.

"The collusion was planned and discussed in a public, crowded setting. The entire venue was aware of it. Not happy to be in this position."

"To be clear, the ARAM was unfortunate but the DQ is due to collusion."

So they were DQ for collusion and the collusion wasn't just for the ARAM, presumably they were colluding about their pizza toppings so it's not hard to infer what it was about.

Lee Chen (@MLGLee): To be clear here folks, the Collusion had nothing to do with the ARAM. CRS/DIG conspired to split prize money. http://mlg.to/SFulSk

@MLG Lee: We are. Dozens of witnesses “@contagioned: @MLGLee i don't at all disagree with the decision, i just hope that you guys are positive of it.”

That's like saying that breaking into a person's house has nothing to do with conspiring to break into a person's house and steal their shit. The ARAM was a part of the execution of of one half (the "collusion" part) of the crime. It didn't cause the punishment alone - it was obvious evidence of them not actually playing the game competitively. Quite related.
I hope Plexa's sig is right.

Prize splitting seems confirmed.

Okay then I completely agree with the decision. MLG should take back the part about bracket manipulation though. It's clear from the last 4 games that this simply did not happen.

Bracket manipulation is part of the rule they broke. They aren't saying the teams did that; they're just quoting the full rule they broke.

Just a technical point but Curse and Dignitas didn't break any part of the rule they quoted in the first statement we got : “competitors may not intentionally Forfeit a Game or conspire to manipulate Rankings or Brackets.” But splitting prize money is so against the spirit of this rule that I agree with MLG.

All Random All Mid. It's a bit as if pro sc2 players decided to play a finals game a monobattle.

Why is everyone saying it's due to the ARAM game? If that was the case, I'm pretty sure the officials would have stopped it waayy before the game started, and had a proper game.

How in the fuck would "the officials" know about this "wayy" before the game started? Did you watch the cast and see how awkward the commentators were?

Do you think that Dignitas went up to the admins "wayy" before the game and said "Hey, we've agreed to not play a real competitive game for your finals. We're going to BS around instead. Sound good?"

More importantly why in god's name would you think that the last 4 games of the tournament were elaborate "mock games" intending curse to win, and the ARAM was not the issue? Have you heard of Occam's razor? Use it.

Its where all champions fight in mid lane. There are 3 lanes and the jungle. Generally you split up your team to each lane and the jungle, but in ARAM, both teams sent their 5v5 lineup down mid lane . Stands for All Random All Mid. (really general explanation)

People are also forgetting that it doesn't have anything to do with whether or not you feel the teams had a reasonable incentive to do it. The fact that it became public tarnishes the image of MLG and Riot which is worth a lot more money than the prize money for this tournament and unfortunately the people that made the decision to do this forgot that. Splitting prize money is just a stupid decision as it is, but making it public knowledge ahead of time and also making a mockery of it with an ARAM in the grand finals shows that neither team is professional at all and MLG and Riot have a strong incentive to lay down some serious punishment to discourage it from happening again.

All they have proof of is them wanting to split the prize. That doesn't mean they threw games or conspired to fix the match. What people do with prize money is up to them. I don't see how these teams are in the wrong.

o, aram. i get it now. Yeah that is pretty bad actually. yeah i would dq them also

It's All Random All Mid. The players let the game mode randomly choose the champions for them and they only play in 1 lane. Think of it like playing a monobattle for the SC2 grand finals where the computer chooses which unit you get to make.

They probably did it to send a message to MLG who had been trying to milk as much out of these players as they can over a single weekend. The current MLG format has no regard for the progamers at all. I wouldn't want anyone to play as many games as they had in a single day for such a small prize pool.

This is the confusion that I'm going to clear up. The rule has two parts. 1) Teams cannot intentionally forfeit. 2) Teams may not conspire to manipulate Rankings or Brackets. Notice the part I bolded. Nowhere did they say teams may not conspire over anything because that would be dumb. It's fine for teams to conspire to have lunch together. What is prohibited by the rule is conspiring to manipulate Rankings. Therefore I say that the teams did not violate the letter of the rule because they did not do either of those things. They did violate the spirit of the rule which is designed to create fair and competitive matches.
