On the other hand I kind of doubt SEA is any deeper. Having a 0-21 team in an 8 team league is kind of a joke. Although if you removed Coast from NA records last split would be like: TSM 11-5 C9 10-6 CLG 10-6 Impulse 9-7 Yikes.

A lot of TW soloqueue stars are banned for eloboosting and stuff, so scene can't be really deep but LPL/OGN scrim partners make stuff look better than it is. It's not like SEA ever lacked talents in any games they played but things like national service in Singapore always drag competitive gaming down. If TPA is going to play like that, it's going to be 4-horse race for 3rd and we will be able to give out Worlds slots in July ~_~

Realistically, without the way Riot has structured the scene, consistent Korean dominance of international competition would have caused problems for Western competitive interest long ago. First, the local isolation of the respective LCSs prevents Asian dominance from being too pervasive or relevant. And once the skill difference between regions reached a breaking point, they introduced import rules that allow enough players from better regions to come and raise the skill level, but not so many that they can form teams that don't "feel" like home region teams (it's actually pretty amazing how much support TSM gets as an "American" team when they're actually one of the least "American" rosters in NA LCS in the first place, thanks to being one of the teams that abused the 1 ENR + 2 NRs loophole last split). EDIT: I realize my comment is heavily directed toward the competitive side of the game, but I'd assume that's what Mata meant by his 2-3 years projection, because suggesting that the game as a whole would burn out in 2-3 years is absolutely ridiculous.

I ship it. for me -Mata loves Yellowstar -Mata wants to go to NA but nobody wants him apparently (or just can't afford him l0l) -C9 Mata hype? -SKT Mata hype? Well, he also said that he while he didn't get any offers he couldn't contact the teams either.

Well, plus, WoW really hasn't declined until very recently, and still is #1 in the MMORPG market, and Blizzard's #1 moneymaker. There is a massive perception of WoW declining following TBC because Sunwell and Wrath took too long to come out, which turned off a vocal set of people from raiding, people who never really got back into the bleeding-edge type raiding that made TBC great. But they have managed to maintain a huge casual raiding playerbase, and small competitive raiding/competitive arena playerbases. Its just a shitty game to spectate so you didn't have much interest in those communities. 2-3 more years of interest in the competitive scene isn't unreasonable, which is what Mata is concerned with.

Eh, I think you're off the mark. It wasn't Sunwell/Wrath but the cessation of subscription milestones which lead to the narrative of "WoW in decline". Bleeding edge raiding never died. Regardless it fits right into what I was trying to say. People are going to whine about and prognosticate LoL's decline/doom/end long before it's actually remotely close to any of that. We'd be constantly hearing about "LoL-killers" at this point if not for DotA 2 and LoL coexisting. I'm obviously speaking in more general terms and competitive play is a different beast.

I don't think we disagree, but I just didn't/don't have the right word for the subset of "raiders" that weren't at the Curse/EJ/Kungen level but basically raided continually from Kara/Grull up through Illidan, and despite being "months behind" beat endgame content with Illidan, and may or may not have beaten Kil Jaden. Obviously the sub peak is a different time period, but I mostly see people complaining about the "golden age" of WoW almost all appear to be people who's guilds broke up during that time. But, if it had come out in time, those same people would have loved Firefighter and other tough achievements. Edit: Of which Lol doesn't have much of a parallel, because its unlikely that 80% of the Diamond 1-5 players will all the sudden not be good anymore.
