It is, if he is in auto range, he is in spear range. 250 units into spear range in fact... when he autos a minion he should eat 2 spears. You also run way faster than him.
Gnar also can't just Q you to push because first thing it hist takes full damage, then everything else takes like 5 damage. lol.
It really is that easy.
Its an easier matchup than panth vs fizz.
Then again, I've played like 1000 panth games since Season 1, and most people have never seen a spartan in lane in a long long time. They have no idea you can be so aggro and just kill you.

Afaik most people skip boots 2 for a long while already, usually get them after 2nd/3rd item is complete.

As a rule of thumb, skipping. The combat benefit of upgraded boots is not as efficient as other items because much of the gold is obviously tied up in the movespeed.

Early zerkers would actually be fairly good on Irelia if completing Triforce wasn't so good. It's also almost necessary in a number of match-ups, like Jayce (because E CCs you longer than the knock-back and his passive is dumb, so even if you Q to a minion and E-stun him, you need to be able to get back into Q range after he knocks you away).

Also on the boots thing, champ dependant. Sorcs you generally want to get fairly early(after 1st item for sure unless I can afford NLR) because of how strong early mpen is, and mobi's if you need them for the MS.
Otherwise I would delay tier2 boots at least until first item, if not later.
