If you have a leash I feel like starting Red is best unless you're really intent on using it to gank early. Frog and Golem are okay alternatives.

I've run some tests on jungle malphite and I've found that he has half hp after clearing red, which for me is the best I've seen so far. Got 3:35 for red buff clear, so a bit slow though :/

Doing a couple quick tests with Sejuani, I was definitely able to clear better starting golems than I was starting red.
That stun saves you a lot of HP for some raisin.

Unless I'm mistaken the stun from Gift of Heavy Hands (from doubles) doesn't have any damage attached. You only get bonus damage versus turrets, so in the jungle it's a pure sustain buff.
Red buff gives sustain and clearspeed, and you'll basically heal most of the damage it did to you when you Smite it if you have a leash. It's also better located for the purposes of leashing (potential help from two lanes, rather than just one).
I don't think there's one right answer to the question, but I think Red is a pretty good place to start when you have a leash. Otherwise it's better to start Frog or Krugs/Golems/Doubles/whatever the hell we're calling them.

So apparently at high elo four smites is already a thing, haven't had a chance to look into what they do with it yet though.
Trying to look into it tabzz seems to be the only person really doing lane smites, he went devourer on kalista but his four smite team got rekt anyway. He also went warrior on ezreal as his first item after brutalizer and he actually won

not sure how long fiddle, nunu, and ww's mana will last, but i think lucian might have the safest jungle clear in the game. the combination of his double tap passive + rock golem smite buff and some kiting means he takes a ridiculously small amount of damage.
i was able to stay in the jungle long enough to do red buff twice and have enough gold to buy a tier 3 jungle item on my first back.

It depends on how the first Smite bonus 100 experience works.
It would be hilarious if multiple Smites on the same target stacked, and you could pass all that experience on to your jungler. More practical though would be four champions entering lane at level 2.

WW does absolutely fine, and fiddle runs out of mana after about two full clears without backing.
generally speaking if you wait too long to go back you auto lose the jungle fight. boots+2nd tier machete just adds so much to invader jungling.

I had a sudden flashback to S1 about explaining how you need to get W spellvamp on Smite and Q to stay high HP on Lee.
