I don't care if it isn't efficient or maximising or whatever, it just feels so right on him. Doing it this way means you don't end up with all poke and no wave clear and vice versa. (Assume boots wherever) Grail -> Guise -> Void staff -> Rylai's -> Liandry's -> last item situational. If I'm fed I'll get Death cap. Banshee's/Zhonya's if their team necessitates them. If it's close, I might get some utility from spooky ghosts. I tend to avoid out and out defensive items and rely on positioning/kiting to stay safe. With Rylai's, alacrity boots, and movespeed items (if you go for spooky ghosts), you are super hard to catch, provided you land your skill shots. There is a Velcro thread that is about support Velcro. I am looking at him mid k. So far I've been doing Twin Shadows first item and max W first, which feels strong for what I want. I've only tried him in 4 games so far but 4 wins yay. The build I'm doing atm is double dorans into: Twin Shadows > Void > Zhonya > DFG/Banshee At first I tried Deathcap instead of DFG but I did some maths and found that DFG is likely better for him.

The biggest issue with him as an AP mid is his lack of escape/disengage. Sure his E is decent and the Q slows a ton, but the moment a semi-tanky jungler gets on you you're toast. If a comp is built around him (like a poke/seige comp) then he'd shine really well. Otherwise he requires too much cooperation to work in solo Q.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I don't have the time anymore and I'm not naturally talented enough to hang with the best. RIP me.

For me, that means I take scaling CDR runes and get Athenes as my first item. After that I try to go Guise > Void > defensive item (usually Zhonyas) > Rylei's > Liandy's, with magic pen or mobility boots. The biggest issue with him as an AP mid is his lack of escape/disengage. I have yet to have any mana issues with just double dorans. If you max W all you have to do is W each wave twice and it kills the whole wave in 2 seconds. This costs 140 mana per minion wave at level 9. With 2 dorans rings you regen 164.4 mana between minion waves, so if that's all you're doing your mana is actually going up. Given the above and a flask, and assuming you never get blue buff, you can Q poke him 3 times per minion wave, save enough mana for E and R, and only have to base once every 4 minutes. Athenes in that regard really feels like wasted stats to me.

I'm not saying I know anything about Velkoz, I'm just curious as to how the Athenes first people have been playing.

I have tried leveling Q and W at the same time, but it felt very weak in the pre-level 13 areas for the first couple team fights, which I greatly dislike.

I'm figuring W max for basically 2 reasons. #1 - If I just want to waveclear and not fight the enemy mid, maxing W over Q lets me do that. #2 - A Q hit leads into a guaranteed W hit. The extra slow duration doesn't really help with that and the damage increases more with W levels than Q levels. So basically if I max W first I can make the decision to either waveclear safely or try to attack the enemy mid. If the former, I just W each wave twice and back off. If the latter, I kill the wave with autos, Q poke the guy, and every time Q hits follow it up with a W.

Maybe Vi is she strong atm ? Yi, Xin, Noc, Shyvana as feral junglers. First 2-3 are ban status, depending where you are in solo q. Vi is still a good pick. There's nothing like a CC-immune initiation for team fights.

I'm not saying I know anything about Velkoz, I'm just curious as to how the Athenes first people have been playing. DFG is hard to use on him because he is all skill shots (compared to other DFG users, who have targeted skills), and you have expose yourself to get the active onto someone. Your ult is very long range, you want to use it safely. Getting in range to DFG then ult seems like suicide if there's anyone with a gap closer on their team. I wouldn't recommend DFG. Like I said in my previous post, I max Q and W at the same time. Maxing W first seems like I have no lane presence. My harass is pitiful. It means a farm lane. Maxing Q means you have weak wave clear, but up your kill potential (If you harass down to half, it's quite possible to kill with your ult alone). I understand the feeling a touch weak for early team fights, but I reckon the ult more than makes up for it. Q is so good for harass and disrupting their farm (due to the split), it seems a waste to leave it at one point. Grail supports the harass style perfectly. Lower cooldowns, can cast with impunity.

The only contexts in which the usage of the word should be considered acceptable and/or appropriate are contexts that have no place in LoL GD, in any case, and moderation really shouldn't have to reflect this as much as it appears to have to.
