I've noticed that CJ has been massively increasing their fan interaction and foreign presence after coach park joined in both league and SC2, he seems to have quite an influence on the whole.

I agree.
I find it kind of ironic though, seeing how HSGG is also the guy that didn't bother getting past Soloqueue Gold in Korea when CLG went.

When spectators shift their attention to the performance of a player rather than their personality we might see more serious soloq games.

Edit2: The public ladder in BW have always consisted of external servers (iCCup, Fish, etc. and the Korean pros always used smurfs afaik). Thanks
I know many of the pros had high level smurfs but I think many were anonymous smurfs.
Also I never knew if the best players on ladder were necessarily the best at tournaments. Always assumed the olympic levels on iccup and the koreans on fish were mostly randoms.

People do that already with the EU pros. It feels like people watch EU when they want to see serious games with great plays, and watch NA when they're bored and want to see good players fuck around for 30 minutes or so.
Edit: also just found this on Reddit...

I know it was basically 99% confirmed, but it looks like they're going to officially announce it today!

Jaedong and Flash never laddered actually after they became big name pros.
The Elo ladder is not a KeSPA ladder, nor is it really a ladder, it is something that we maintained on TLPD that tracks league games and automatically calculates based on the Elo formula. KeSPA maintained a Ranking list, which was just an amalgamation of official league results, so it is similarly not a separate ladder.
Very few Korean pros played on iCCup even in its prime on a regular basis. A lot of amaterus and b-teamers played on iCCup, and sometimes a big name would play for a season or so on and off, but never on a regular basis. Toping iCCup was not really considered an achievement, nor was it that closely followed by the progamers other than as a curiosity.
Fish, I beleive, is only a recent ladder. It was not around during th eprime of Korean BW.
So Korean players didn't actually ladder at all past the first few years when ladders like Game-i among others were actuall ya legitimate way to qualify for tournaments and the such. After the scene got going, it was pretty much all in-house practice all day.
This is a slight simplification obviously, but overall, it's fair to say Korean BW wasn't big on alddering.

Actually Flash mentioned playing on Iccup in one of his interviews. And he was playing vs Savior and thought it was Jaedong.

As I said, it happens on and off, but they don't really do it regularly for serious practice at all.
And yeah that was when Savior was on the LeeYoungHo name I believe lol.
edit: LeeYH was the name.

So, I just noticed that the S4 change made it so you can have 3 wards down with a regular Sightstone and upgrading to Ruby SS is just an HP bonus.
I feel dumb.

Id really like the NA solo queue to be more competitive, NA seem to have an abundance of entertainers first and players 2nd. Which influences the people in higher brackets, which influences the ones in lower brackets etc. I know there are players who legit try to become better and are super competitive in soloqueue, but when the general image of solo queue is bad it trickles down to everyone.
on the Ves thing: Tbf I saw a dude in a ves shirt on DoubleLifts stream the other day aswell, pretty sure alot of pros just have shirts from other teams (recall the Marn shirts?)

Yeah, BW pros relied on their teammates for practice more than anything. Obv. this isn't as practical for league, since it's a 5v5 game and you need a lot more B-teamers if you want to practice this way.
Also, the iccup ladder system was mega-weird. It wasn't based on elo or trueskill or anything, there was just a table of +/- points based on how many ranks above/below you your opponent was, and what your current rank was. If you were D rank, you could climb the ladder as long as your winrate was above 33% against equally ranked players, but if you were A rank you needed like a 60% win rate against similarly rated players to maintain your rank -- I'm not sure in what world, besides iccup, where such a ranking system makes sense.

iCCup was hard mang.
Forever C.

Sigh.
It can be hard to provide criticism to new players in a way they don't take offense to.
I remember once I played a game with my co-worker (who is bad) and his cousin (who is extremely bad), I was laning with the cousin so I thought I'd give him a few tips, you know "they're going to hit 6 first so be careful, they'll try to fight", "we have no ward so we have to back off, too risky", "mid is missing let's back out", etc. The cousin left after that game.
The next day at work my co-worker said that his cousin didn't want to play with his "rager friend" anymore.

Someone should do a TotalBiscuit-esque tournament where only like the top 10 soloqueue players enter. I don't think that specific idea would work for a team-format game, but it's on the right track.
|
It's more that if he asks me for directions (after he feeds fb to Diamond V Lux as pre-30 Lux and she buys Mejai out of it), when I tell him "she's going to get exponentially stronger if she get kills, and she's better, so focus on not dying: ignore her, only try to get some farm" I expect him not to try and trade/harass his opponent in the next 2 minutes. Can't blame me then!

Holy shit.
Having the 5th ward charge is still somewhat useful though. Doubt it's worth the gold though.
