I don't see much point in requiring challenger of your players. SoloQ mechanics isn't a problem for 90% of the pro's, what they need to train is better team-play/tactics and individual skill will follow.

Solo Q can be important. Look at Korea. Also it prevents Chausters situation, where he didn't touch soloq for over a year. This is one step towards a better high elo solo q environment. Imo it'll be healthy for the scene.

I think Hotshot's decision is good for CLG as a team, but I don't agree with his sentiment toward solo queue.

Trolly solo queue isn't the cause of inconsistent LCS play. They're both the effects of the same thing which is a generally more casual attitude toward competitive play compared to the Asian regions. Trying to make solo queue "tryhard" won't fix that because it's not the root cause.

Korea isn't a strong competitive region because they tryhard in solo queue. Korea is a strong competitive region because of a generally serious communal attitude toward competitive gaming, from which a tryhard attitude in solo queue is just one auxiliary effect. Trying to mimic that effect in NA won't somehow transplant all the other effects on attitude toward competitive play.

I agree with the root cause, but I don't think improving solo q is useless to achieve the same end goal. Fake it till you make it!

Fake it till you make it is an empirically sound philosophy.

Roffles taught me to fake toxicity and now I am toxicity.

As long as streaming is more profitable than being competitive I don't see how anything will change. There's just a fundamental difference in how the population views the game in NA compared to Korea. I don't see how trying to make solo q more serious will accomplish anything since it isn't even the competitive game. In fact I think the importance on solo q is what drove the scene to this situation in the first place.

Also, the other issue is that while there does exist talent that have the right mindset to succeed, there's very little incentive for sponsors to sponsor those players over more popular players that bring in stream views. Because on NA, that's where the money is.

But you can be both.

It's exponentially harder to find players that are popular, talented, and have a good competitive mindset than it is to find players who just have the latter two. The fact that there exist a handful of players who have all 3 qualities means absolutely nothing because there aren't enough such players to form a large enough number of viable competitive teams so long as sponsors care about popularity and stream views.

It's also just easier to find players that are popular and make money off of them streaming.

It's also extremely *bleh* to be matched up with the same tiny pool of players every single game, every single day. At that point in the ladder, everyone is a clear step ahead of the pack. They don't really have a lot to do, since nobody can even compete with them for the highest spots.

Wildturtle taking every challenger spot is basically the only threat your average challenger player faces.

Stay positive!

Not really though tbh.
Look at bjergsen, his streams maybe got like 10k views before joining TSM.
Now he regularly hits 30k np, was hitting 70k when he first joined.
Did he all of a sudden become more entertaining? Nope.
He joined TSM. Why can't this just be the case? Where TSM label is the part that makes him insanely popular, and then skill carrys over to the team?

Aren't you kind of proving the point though? TSM is a team that has built itself into a big brand by being popular. They have never been competitive outside of NA and have kept players due to popularity instead of skill. Whether that is changing or not don't know just yet but they didn't become the huge brand they are by people competitive minded.

Seem to be missing the point honestly. TSM is just a huge brand so obviously a player joining that team will see a rise in popularity regardless of entertainment/skill/competitiveness. It doesn't really have anything to do with the current discussion.

if hotshott wants to see more talent developed on NA why doesnt he (one of the few people with the funds and set up) do something about it? CLG pro-amm league, CLG B team, CLG vs the world of baddies.

hes sitting on his piles of cash crying.

He's been contemplating making a challenger team for a while, or at least was.

Because that would be like flushing money down the toilet basically for an abstract gain that another team could just as easily reap the benefits of if the goals were ever achieved.

People on TL need more business classes. Well, not classes, because they are kinda worthless, more just business acumen.

TSM might have originated as that, but now as a brand is so strong that it can afford to pick up players just for their playing strength, not necessarily their entertainment value.

it doesnt matter if it makes business sense or not. even supposing for a second it was a sure fire failure money-wise, that means hotshot is complaining that people arent dumping money in to a situation where he knows it will go to waste.

we can get in to sociological arguments all night long, but we cant change america. the only thing that ESPORTS can do to make NA less shit is to spend money on it, and so either you have to believe there are viable business opportunities, in which case hotshot himself is the prime candidate to do something about it, or you believe its a waste of businesses time, in which case you think hotshot is knowingly just making a whine about nothing in a sad attempt to stay relevant after retirement.

or i mean i guess you could just get sarcastic about your belief in knowing more about business than other randoms on the internet.

SK picks supa hot crew XD, this probably makes the other match ups KMT vs NiP and MYM vs CW.

Unless NiP suddenly decide that being in LCS is overrated and pick CW.

Actually this tweet suggests that NiP has gone full retard and picked CW. Well then.

I mean, your plan didn't even make sense. He could actually do what you are talking about, in China and get takers. But in California everything is incredibly expensive. Maintaining a CLG B team would cost tens of thousands of dollars a month, easily.
