Friends is different because you have a built up a relationship and they tend to let things slide and have a different social dynamic. That being said, a lot more people hide how hurt they are then how much they want to be assholes, and in fact it's a sign of low self esteem to enjoy being a asshole, bring others down to bring your self up is not a sign of a healthy well adjusted, high elf esteem person. However, being hurt by mean comments is normal. The key is to not get brought down to that persons level, or by that comment. Usually this is done by devaluing the person saying it. So keep in mind when you do this, people are either hurt, or they simply don't value your opinion. Either way not a positive outcome.

You say it's a good idea to assume this, so even by your own logic, which I would say is incredibly flawed, yousay it's good practice. And yet you are argueing that there is no problem with doing it. ??????????????

The saddest part about your post and posts in general is that you beleive that honesty and meaness are the same thing. And basically you think that human nature is to be dickish. I agree that it is common. But I think the reason for it is a lack of slef awareness from people, and being taught incorrectly. I tend to think think that people who come to forums like this are a little above the normal when it comes to intelect (however, this could be a faulty premise) so it is extra sad to see some one beleive this.

Go back to the first post I changed. And reread it vs the original post. How is my post less honest? It's not it's simply not dickish.

I would also like to point out incase he feels this way, I don't think the first poster is some evil bad guy, and I don't want to come down on him to hard. I just was using it as a example of not a good way to post, talk, or interact in RL with people.
