Yeah that was the idea, Maokai is pretty shit at killing golems, and he doesn't have stuff like J4's flag and passive to bolster his aa clear speed, so he doesn't farm too fast and even if he does it eats through his mana super fast so if you want to gank it makes you base more often than champs like, say, Vi. | ||

Clear with max Q (which is the only skill order you ever do... right?) is not terrible but still bad. The main reason early game Maokai is awesome is because his W is actually a non-ultimate Vi ult which is bonkers. He is fantastic with an assasin mid and he can somewhat reliably gank post-6 ahris. He is also ridonculous when he gets ahead because he can inititate teamfights into towers, throw down ult and come out w/ 75% health thanks to his passive + ulti. Finally, 40% CDR Maokai is actually the most annoying / best peeler in the game. Knock up every 3 seconds mao pls. But yeah Mao is really snowbally and if your lanes are pushed / ungankable and you get behind you really suck at farming jungle so yeah good luck with that. | ||

Madreds is fine if you don't want to grab golem right away, so that's why some lee sins run madreds, because they rather get a faster sight stone.
