I'm still annoyed with this format - should be more teams (20 at least), no quarter-final byes, and Bo5 finals - but I doubt Riot will do much to change it. With the byes, and the way the groups are stacked, Riot can almost guarantee that at least two Western teams will make it through to the finals; they were even lucky enough to get three, with the sucky performance of Ozone, and now we'll also have at least one Western team in the semi-final. I don't mean to look down on the Western teams (I think Fnatic are superb and as a Sword fan I'm really worried about Gambit, don't know as much about C9 though) but Riot must be constantly worried about structuring a world championship where Asian teams dominate. There was an awful lot of whining at IEM Worlds where three out of the four semi-finalists were Korean and we had an all-Korean final, lots of comments like, 'I stopped watching SC2 because of this Korean dominance bullshit'. For the same reason, I think this is why there are now no international tournaments scattered throughout the calendar - not giving the teams a chance to experience different metas increases the chance of upsets. Although, to be fair, I'm not sure whether Riot specifically is preventing these sorts of competitions, or if it's for some other reason that they're no longer happening. Instead, I have to say: Gold 5 is the new Silver 5. It's preposterous how fucking bad the games are. Like, the supports are the shittiest supports I have ever seen. If it's not them, it's the top that feeds, or the mid, or the jungle. Someone is always playing like utter garbage. I mean, that at the end of the season lower skilled players like me finally make it into Gold, ok. But seriously, if I am bad, the people I have to play with are fucking TERRIBLE. Like, last game. Zyra first pick. "Hm", I say to myself, "strong pick. Good harass, good zoning in team fights. I wanna play with her." So I pick trist as second against a vayne. Probably not the best matchup, however I'm confident with Trist and dont want the adc to feed again (like the 3-13-3 ashe the game before). So what happens? level 1 she walks to the tribrish (blue side). She doesnt use a single ward, so I'm already suspicious. Then it comes to the laning phase. Still no ward, so I'm hoping that she at least knows how to lane. What happens? The fucking Sona is harassing me 24/7 while my fucking zyra stands fucking behind me with full fucking mana and doesnt do fucking shit all the fucking time. Vayne farmed for 11 (!!!) minutes with her longsword(!!!) +2 build. un-fucking-believable, like wtf is this? I seriously don't understand it. I had better games at Silver III than this shit. Holy moly. So, er, how is the level of play at your ranks? Is it... satisfying? User was warned for this post | ||
