I thought the movespeed stats/regen/mr all fit a item design. Force of Nature, the movespeed being wind, MR being earthy, and regen being naturey. It all made sense. Because Riot still doesnt understand the power of movespeed, and FON was removed during the era when they introduced the absurd Black Cleaver, which means that they probably didnt understand the balance between double AP and double AD comps at the time, and thought that AP was too strong (it wasnt) and AD too weak (also wrong). But they also nerfed the living shit out of ADC itemization. I guess they really wanted more offensive minded bruisers.

A Malphite who wants to enhance his late-game damage and is laning against a Zac? You get 5.3 extra damage on Ground Slam at level 18 with flat runes, but 10.2 extra damage if you take scaling runes. Definitely worth the extra damage you take early from any auto attack harass.

Oh you mean like Olaf? The character they killed the very next patch? Or Irelia/Jax the characters they killed in the patch I am talking about?
Basically the S3 itemization goals was to say: AD is better, AS is worse. HP is better, Armor and MR is worse. Slowly, throughout the season, they have figured out that all those design decisions were wrong.

Schizo? Or wrong? Because IMO the answer is wrong. Burst is worse than sustained damage for LOL (based on its balance philosophy) and similarly the need to counter lane bullies and counter a specific fed lane opponent is important is also a key part of LOL. Both these were reduced S3, so IDK what comes next

Well at this point it's both

The nut on lane Warwick, or really fed jungle Warwick I guess. Frozen Heart -> Spirit Visage -> Wit's End.

Shen and Warwick.

It's good on Warwick, Teemo & Kayle off the top of my head. I never tried with Diana but it probably sucks on her as I don't even get Nashors tooth on her anymore.

nah man. Lucian and WW bot lane. double wit's end too stronk.
if wit's was better it could be cool on varus, trist, or kog (in terms of ADC).
I really really hope Riot cleans up their scheduling for next year. they need to talk with all the leagues and set a date far in advance. and also have not such a silly tourney structure.
I'd love to see a standardized league structure for all leagues but that might be a little monotonous.
I want a winter season, then some sort of international competition, then summer season followed by worlds. and the winter season should mean something. a point system like OGN would be nice.
Fuck it. just copy OGN. riot plz.

If you're against someone with significant amounts of magic damage, I think it just is a really good item in general. Udyr for one can make use of it, and Elise as well in my opinion(-25mr really hurts). I also think it's good on Kennen against magic dmg stuff solo top but might be just me being crazy. Oh yeah, and it synergizes perfectly with Shyvana.
Problem though is that if you're bruiser / more tanky type you can just build a Spirit Visage
The item would have been much much better if they kept Madreds Bloodrazor.

That is kind of the LOL problem in a nutshell. Rengar 100-0 Potential is against the design philosophy. But also, Rengar infinite sustain is even more against design philosophy. And we knew this years before Rengar existed. Then, post Rengar, we createe=d more Rengar #1 characters. Why?

Against double AP i like both. As long as you extend your balls to the size of your head, you're pretty much unstoppable.

Has Riot ever given an answer as to why they shy away from activation abilities on items compared to Dota?
My hunch is they'd say something about wanting the champs to shine, not the items... but that seems silly. So any actual info/quote would be nice.

Is there any counterplay to a fed fizz? Like it's so ridiculously hard to stop him from one shotting anyone. Really hard to focus him because of his E, and he'll just erase someone in less than a second with just ult + w/q. I'm really at a loss as to how to beat that.
|
yeah hard cc and exhaust, though chances are their team just aces you while everyone wastes everything to shutdown fizz, or any superfed assassin for that matter.

They probably don't want the learning curve to overwhelm people too much. If items depended on activation then some players might not be able to make full use of certain items if they forget to play it. Zhonya's/DFG/Botrk etc. are all pretty straight forward. Compare that to items like force staff in dota and things can get a lot more complex.
Also, active items with major effects like stun/blink/push would be overpowered as hell in league. I think in general the game design and mechanics of league don't allow much more room for items to have big effects which could potentially be game breaking on certain heroes.
