Don't buy rune pages except when they're on my sale. My general IP rule is to keep a minimum of 3K so if there's a sale or something I can farm up and take advantage of it. Managed to pick up Trundle and his free traditional skin that way-- couldn't farm IP for Sejuani b/c finals OP. :/
Darius is free, try him out first. I played a couple games with him as support for lulz, he's pretty stupid. It's like Yi, enemy team gets low and you just run around and dunk them all. (Sup TROLLS inhouse)
Ancient Golem is great, but out of the Jungle you have other things you will probably build as a "core" that give the same stats. On the other hand, free burn from Elder Lizard and the spellvamp from Spectral Wraith can't really be itemized efficiently elsewhere.

I know items are dependent on how well you do and what lane you're in, but any general tips on what to buy. I know BT is good for Varus' abilities and life steal is good, but BotRK gives him attack speed and tank killing, so also really good. I know IE is something to get if you're doing really well, but I'm not sure if it's even worth it to miss out on those other items.
I think I'm leaning more towards either
BT PD LW/IE or
BotRK BT LW.
IE just doesn't seem to be worth it enough on Varus because of how much longer it takes to build (and long sword pots is standard opening).

Rival doesn't necessarily mean enemy though. See: Garen/Katarina (well, they're enemies, but it's state-affairs, not personal), Draven/Darius, Nidalee/Rengar.

So, I found out Cass is really fun in ARAM. I just rushed Rylais then Liandrys and just spammed her W all game. I didn't realize how great her zoning is. I also didn't realize her ult has that low of a cooldown. Overall, good times were had regardless of how bad I was/am at this game.
Also another champ who excels in ARAM seems to be ziggs. For the same reason that his zoning potential is amazing.

BotRK/IE is the strangest two item combo, I've felt. Starting BT or BotRK is more of a tempo thing.

Lol looking at the new site and reading Kassadin's lore for the first time, I think he's now #2 favorite lore behind current Jax lore.
These friend's/rivals thing is pretty cool. Ahri friends with Wukong is pretty lol. Jax rivals with Fiora sounds interesting too.

I like how the champion/item info is more well-organized than before, but I still wish a lot of the more detailed information (which anyone pretty much only ever found out by testing or by asking a Rioter) was tabulated in a way that people could actually find that more obscure information rather than having to do one of the above.
EDIT: Somewhat related, I wish LoL had a full-on combat log and not just the semi-functional death recap.

Yeah, you really can't trust the death recap. I died today as Janna with 1700 life and it only showed 900 damage towards me... I was at full health 20 seconds before that.
So for the past few months I've been reflecting on all my legit games and trying to figure out what I can do to improve. I put this all in an excel spreadsheet or massive word doc. I think I'm improving for sure. Does anyone else do something similar. I just don't feel like I can measure my improvement without actually writing stuff down.
