Obviously huge design commitment but I think it would be really cool for people that want all the champs but would rather not grind a hundred games. Appeals to those former WoW or pokemon players etc Doesn't help that he doesn't know many champ names so he just calls them with stuff like "Ms. Plant" for Zyra.

Well he would learn the names during a storyline/quest :D You could have multiple champs involved and at the end you can chose one to unlock. You can't replay the quest so at most the quests unlock 1 out of 5 champs or something.
Or you could replay but the unlock ability is one time.

Got the free runepage for being old, bought 1 full priced. with 4 runepages, 1 ad, 1 ap, 1 support and 1 jungle i didn't really feel i needed too much more to play. If I was in the mood to play a specific champion, I would modify the closest one to him and just play him.
Then they made the runepages at half price thing, combined with the refund feature. So i just refunded everything I could and bought 6 runepages lol

I've got 3 rune pages (f2p lol), one for AD, AP and support - they are as generic as I can make them. On the flip side, I've only got 20 champs, so my ability to counter pick is very limited.
I'm sure it would be good to have jungle and top pages, or diverse AD/AP pages, but then again being countered in champ select due to such a shallow pool is frustrating too. What would you guys do here?
don't think about counterpicking too much.
20 champs are plenty.
There might be a few hard counters in the game that makes laning (almost) impossible, but usally you should be able to be just fine in most matchups if you are comfortable with the champ (and don't pick someone because championselect.net says so but you have no idea about said champ)
If you play your champ enough you get comfortable with the counterpicks aswell.

I have 5 rune pages, bought 1, then bought the 2-for-1 deal.
1 AD, 1 Jungle, 1 Support, 1 AP with mana/ability power, 1 AP with armor/spell vamp.
My AD and Jungle pages double as my top lane pages depending on champion.

Same here. There are only ~3 champs in each lane that I'm willing to play in ranked, and cho'gath counts for 3 of them. Counterpicks in lol are not strong enough to overcome simply being better at one champion than another. (There are a few exceptions, but when you're choosing your champion pool you should keep them in mind and it's not that hard to cover your bases)
Also, if you don't have the 7 rune page bundle and you're thinking about getting HotS, keep in mind you can get two 7 rune page bundles for that price.

(sarcasm).
it's not riots fault for people over valuing the IP for champions, and undervaluing IP for rune pages. Even if you cut runepage's price in half, people are still going to be "i could get a 3150 champion, or a runepage". And guess what? 99 out of a 100 times, the casual player base going to pick the champion. That's their fault for falling for their dumbass logic.

Btw, is Trundle still bugged? I don't recall any red post or patch note stating he was fixed, but some people in champ select said they didn't notice anything wrong when I told them of his Q bug.

There was a reddit post about it being fixed, I don't think it's a problem anymore.

League of Taric. You see Taric in 100% of the games.

The problem is, even with 4 runepages and freeweek + ~25 champions owned, you're still playing a very different game than the one being played in tournaments. That's not a very good thing for a competitive game.
Ultimately, the business model is going to get in the way of core concepts of a competitive game in some way or another, but exactly how much it does so can be changed.

Even if every single content was unlocked from the start, lowbies would still be playing a very different game from tournament level players. It's just the way the game is, and even good decisions at higher level plays can become suboptimal decisions at low level play just because the opportunity costs for different actions are wildly different.
If anything, I'd argue that playing through a large champion pool suits the casual player mindset, with competitive players improving by focusing on a smaller roster of champions.

He is getting a proper nerf next patch though, changing Dazzel so the stun starts lower and gets higher as you rank it up (1 second - 1.6 seconds last PBE patch I believe)

That's nerfing his support more than it nerfs his top/jungle though o-o

Nerfing the stun nerfs him everywhere really. Huge difference between a 1 second stun and a 1.5 second stun (especially on Jungle Taric). I doubt Taric in any role can really max the stun first, sacrificing way too much in comparison.

It's really annoying yeah even though I don't consider him completely broken or anything but since I main AD, laning against him every game is very irritating. Such a facerollchamp, those graves+taric are the best

Except in the time it takes for you to buy 35 champions "the right 35 champions" changes enormously due to how quickly Riot changes the game.
By the time you buy your 35th champion, it's quite likely that many of the earlier champs you bought when they were "good" are no longer that strong anymore.
