Its funny how last week Gambit Gaming used Volibear in the LCS and last night i tune in to Saint to watch him do scrims with volibear and now Snoopy is running him in soloQ.
Good old LoL scene copying everything they see :p
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

I feel they were too conservative with the really big potentially game-breaking effects they added for s3. Crucible, Ohmwrecker, and Hurricane all have the potential to be extremely gamebreaking had they been released with different numbers/stats and I think they erred to far to the side of caution here.

On the other hand, Black Cleaver, which is just a mix of a bunch of effects they (think they) already understand, turned out to be broken on release...

To be honest, that's how the game evolves. And they try it out to see if it's something worth doing or if they should just stick with what they know. It's particularly relevant because a lot of current junglers are getting banned often (XZ, J4, Vi)

What should (in my opinion) happen right now is that Volibear becomes fotm for a few months and then either fades to hipsterism again (much like Ahri) or simply becomes a popular pick. I have a bad feeling Riot will nerf him, but we'll see.

Thresh basically negates wards with lane ganks-- he gives his jungler a freaking 1500 distance gap closer.

After I get my sighstone, I buy a pink every time I back. I kind of expect jungler to ask about warding or that he plans to gank bot, and then I'll drop my pink and clear so we can make da playz. Is that little bit of coordination too hard? T_T

Quick question about that, how does lantern visibility work for the opponents? I never see Thresh vs me but I assume you can see the lantern travel between two places you don't have vision of (e.g. the lane brushes) and you should also be able to see the beam between the brushes, correct?

You should be able to see it, yes, but its basically reaction time. When Yi is highlander-ing to you or Kassadin void walks, yes, you see that they're moving towards you. Can you run away? Yes. Do they have a ridiculous gap closer that gives you barely any time time to react? Yes. Will they most likely catch up to you and mess you up? Yes.

I think if the other team doesn't have vision of Thresh or the lantern the beam doesn't show; not sure. I just know souls only show if they can see Thresh.

I kind of liked old Ohmwrecker. It was great on fed tanky supports, let you push like no other.

Now its just gives awkward tankiness and AP. Maybe build it on an all-active pure support with Twin Shadows, Locket, Crucible, etc.

In solo q especially. I don't think Vi has really had the opportunity to shine yet at the competitive level. Seeing all the Vis at NA LCS last week, they were botched with mistakes and misplays. Yet, she's a very common ban in ranked atm.

No surprise that Junglers are turning to Voli as a test now. If anything, more credit to Gambit for continuously impacting how the LoL community plays this game.

I've always been scared of Voli junglers, and just had no idea why no one played him (but was quite happy that I didn't have to worry about it)

i like how rammuses have been tearing up NA solo queue since preseason and no ones even tried him in competitive while as soon as diamond plays voli one game, saint starts running him in scrims.

Is it just me or are the supports in a sorrier state at the moment than they were in Season 2? Not item wise. Just it feels you're so weak... especially with these ultra diving junglers that are popular lately.

Despite what smash was saying I still feel like vi is kinda underwhelming later on in the game, kinda like another lee sin but she has engage instead of a disengage. I had a game earlier with a 10/0 legendary vi in like 20 minutes and we had a 0/6/0 ap trynd just split pushing constantly against a shen and we just started teamfighting and won and no lanes were even winning wtf?

supports are super strong in above said game I raped with sona

if junglers are diving you you it sucks but if you get tanky enough or ward enough you should be able to deal with it. Its mostly a problem when you're already behind somewhat

Eh? Volibear jungle always been okay. I've always found him niche is all. He's just not that worthwhile for the longest time due to the popularity of them easy to escape types(ahri, ezreal, etc..)

I mean I dunno he's not bad but unlike the other "run at them" junglers he didn't have the clear speed of a Mundo or Shy. No idea how quick he clears in S3 but if it's not too bad he could easily take up that role and run with it.

Also, bears miss ionic spark. Cus lightning bear was hilarious.

I agree- with all the high base-damage tanks like Olaf, Rengar, Voli (lol), it feels really weak playing a traditional support. An Olaf or Rengar with 0 damage items really brings a lot to a teamfight- damage, presence, etc. A Soraka is essentially useless out of lane with the current meta. If I have to support, I play Taric or Lulu- at least my stun/ult do something. But really, what does Sona do mid/lategame other than crescendo? How hard would it be for your top or jungler to get an aura item or two, and then you wouldn't need your Runic Bulwark Bot at all.

I really enjoy playing a comp that's growing in popularity- AD mid (usually Caitlyn) with double AP bot lane. Both APs get built enough by the midgame, and Ryze/Cass or Morg/Orianna adds far more to a teamfight than having an auraitem bot like most supports.

If you feel weak, the reason is probably that you build Philo + Kages. At least that has been my experience. If you build real items and just completely ignore that gp10 shit (except for sightstone), you don't feel weak. You will still lose most 1v1s after the starting phase is over, but you are the support afterall, and pretty much everyone on the field has at least 50% more gold in items then you do. And you still usually don't just fall over when someone looks at you.

Just make sure to play something flashy with CC and skillshots. Otherwise supp is pretty boring, and you don't really get to do cool stuff. It also makes you less easily predictible. If you dive a soraka, you know that she will heal once and silence you, both of which is not really scary. If you dive taric, he stuns you once, which you can usually predict and not die. But if you dive thresh, so much can go wrong and suddenly you are dead because he has so much cool stuff he can do.

This is just weird. The whole point of a support is that they work good with no money. Two half-farmed APs are not as good as one farmed guy and a support. You just need to play the right supports. Your job is not to look pretty and hold an aura item in your hand, your job is to be as useful as possible without money. Ryze without money is worthless. Leona is still incredibly scary.

What counters ap trynd? in terms of laning and stopping his split push? I've been playing him a lot lately and once he gets the 39% cdr he's pretty much embarrassingly broken.

The only one I can think of that I can feel like is "hurting" is Soroka. Though this doesn't really have much to do with the season 3 changes. I hope they think about changing her ult. I would enjoy if there was added benefit of distance coming into play with her ult, so they could buff her ultimate to feel better. Right now it's decently okay for everyone.

For example, giving her ult a range, but a lot stronger. Or even global limited range with closer people getting more benefit. Something that feels better to use as a player, but limiting enough that it gives more strength in getting the timing right.

I dunno, whenever I play Lulu (I haven't been playing other supports recently - I don't main the role) I feel like I am SO GOOD at stopping all kinds of ultra-diving assassins and stuff. Also, it's easier to just build a pile of ruby crystals into a useful arsenal.

It's not just about itemization, supports just feel better in general right now.

He seems pretty similar in "how to stop" as singed? So stop fire with fire and play singed? He becomes just as unstoppable, splitpushes just as hard, but brings more to teamfights. Also, he avoids losing a lot of his offensive power to chickenshout unlike most top laners.

Caveat - i've only played against AP trynd once recently, and he wasn't really that good. This judgement is made more from watching streamers more than anything.

As anyone else: His damage is still 100% physical, so you probably want a Sunfire to give yourself the ability to stop his pushing more effectively. Don't be so focused on killing him when he's splitpushing, be focused on keeping him off the towers. If you can 1v1 and keep him from touching your tower, that's fine. If you have teleport so the minute he leaves, or if you can push him back significantly, you can participate in a teamfight, that's ideal.

It's more that he's just a more obnoxious splitpusher than most, but he can't do anything else effectively. He's not the kind of threat when you completely ignore him in a teamfight that, say, Singed or Nidalee is.
