These arguments are pretty off the mark.
It isn't important how easy a game is to spectate because neither Moba nor RTS fall into that category,FPS and fighting games are much easier to understand for people that watch it for the first time.
What is important is if you can appreciate what you see.If there is a sick play happening it's impossible to fully grasp how big or hard it was as a inexperienced viewer.
For people that have no idea and watch a RTS or Mobas for the first time,no matter how conceptually easy it is to understand,it's just a mindfuck to watch.

ok now to be serious

all the people i know who have watched LoL or are interested in watching LoL also play it. because of the matchmaking system they can still play terribly but enjoy themselves and get the feel of the game.

the girls i know who watch it because their boyfriends make them... they should have an expert who can explain it to them. i say "should" because i remember during worlds, my friend's facebook friend said "watching lol worlds. go japan!" because the boyfriend told her that japan was one of the teams, lol.

no one watches the game from scratch, i think. they all play it or are around people that know how to play it.

Eh, I'd still tend to disagree. Not all the time (there are fights that go 3-2, but the team that only got 2 kills comes out ahead for one reason or another, or plays that require mechanical knowledge but don't look amazing), but there are plenty of times where you see a half health person get ganked, and through dodging, positioning, and using his abilities right (visible by movement at the very least), he comes out alive with a double kill. Lee makes for great plays like this, as the highlight reels show. Or watching a perfect 5-AoE-Ulti teamfight that goes 5-0, and even the newest person goes "wow, that was really one sided", and you can tell all the big circles lining up over one another is cool.

Not true. I got dragged into watching LOL long before I started playing it. I think I started watching before the WCG event which was won by CDE and didn't start playing until IPL 4 which was won by TSM.

Unless by scratch you mean by having absolute 0 experience in any sort of gaming which is pretty rare.

"Basically you farm the minions in each lane for gold and the enemy does the same. Then you group up and try to push down towers and destroy the enemy base."

"In mid lane is a mage, they can deal a lot of magical damage quickly and roam around the map to help the sidelanes."
"In top lane is usually the bruiser, he's a DPS/tank that stands in the front line for his team."
"In bottom lane is the ranged carry, its his job to be a glass cannon dealing tons of physical damage late-game. He's accompanied by a support who helps him out in lane and makes sure he gets lots of farm."
"The last person is the jungler, he farms the neutral creeps around the map and ganks the lanes to try and kill opposing team members."

I think that is literally all the explanation you need. Each role equates pretty closely to like WoW or RPG roles and people can understand that. Obviously my grandmother who has never touched a computer game in her life won't get it but anyone who has played any form of RPG will.

From personal experience, I found that LoL and moba games are harder to follow if you have never played before or are new to the game than SC2 and RTS games. In SC2 the general objective is to collect resources to build an army to destroy the opponent's base. When a battle happens, it's pretty clear what units do, basically they all shoot each other. In a LoL teamfight, which tend to last about 10 seconds, it isn't clear what is going on unless you know what each hero does and what their spells look like and what the spells do. When I first started LoL, I watched a lot of tournaments to try to learn, and without knowing what each hero did, teamfights just looked like a bunch of spells and at the end a bunch of people are dead. I knew the basics of last hitting, getting gold, trying to zone lane opponents from gold/exp, and the overall objective of getting gold/items to eventually kill their base. It's just that once teamfights start, it's not obvious what's going on. Now I can clearly see what each hero is doing, how they are positioning, their focus in the fight, and their relative strength based on what items they have. But for a beginning player it's pretty confusing.

I like phreak nowadays to be honest, you can see that he does his home work is probably the best player among casters after Jatt

it's Rivington that I strongly dislike about Phreakington...

Maybe I just find Jatt/Deman so much more interesting to listen to that I can't tell where the bad is coming from with Phreakington and other casters.

I think the teamfight confusion comes from trying to watch everything at once. You can't follow 10 people doing different things at the same time. Even in basketball, you watch the guy with the ball, and maybe a big play maker who just got open and is going for the lay up. Once you realize who the important people are in a fight (AD carries doing damage, assassins diving, or if a gank, the jungler with his element of surprise), you note how the fight goes from that person's point of view. Watching two teams fighting is much more confusing than watching Kog and Cait position against people on them and watching their team peel/protect them. Or in a gank, appreciating the Jungler waiting for the right moment to pop out and CC for a surprise kill.

All this talk gives me such a great idea.
At some point I'm going to do a cast or stream with my wife and see if she can figure out what's going on.

Little is more entertaining than when an uninitiated eSports watcher is forced to describe what he/she is seeing on the screen. Descriptions get hilarious fast.

I watched the game from scratch. When I started playing a little, I had already been an avid watcher for months.
But maybe there are exceptions to everything.

That's not quite "from scratch" as he's talking though. You've obviously played games before, maybe even some that can be considered "competitive class based" (maybe WoW, TF2, DotA, etc). If you've ever played WC3, you knew how champs worked (heroes). I think the idea of "watching from scratch", is like showing it to your sibling/parent without explaining anything at all.
