Not a big surprise that Trundle feels like a trash champion to play when you build him with some garbage Wriggles->gp10->Triforce build.

Because everyone has these trash builds ingrained into their heads and play him incorrectly? It's not exactly uncommon that a strong champion will go undiscovered because people play him incorrectly. Everyone thought Ezzy was the worst AD carry in the game until people learned from Chinese teams and started using W-max builds to crush lanes.
As far as I'm concerned, I've only ever seen two competitive players play and build Trundle correctly: Jatt, and Lilballz. And both players were/are wildly successful with Trundle when they choose to play him and pick him into the right comp.

Big surprise, build Trundle CDR for damage early on. It's not like that's what makes him broken OP. He's just a mediocre champ who has other who outshine him. Playing him is a downgrade 99% of the time.

Other examples of champions that only caught on when people finally figured them out: Teemo, Irelia, Jarmander, Urgot (non-manamune), Koggles, Meowkai

Ugh. Hey, is Poppy a rough lane for all AD people top, or am I just SUPES BAD with Jayce. I farmed fine, but I couldn't stop her from doing anything... Eventually she just killed other lanes no matter what I did and I would die, but before that... no idea what to do.

Topic up for discussion. Why are there so many little kids in this game.

Free to play is probably a big part of it—you don't need mom or dad's credit card to hop online and game. Also, it's the most popular online game, so you have a lot of people and a lot of them are kids. The kids tend to stick out more because of how often they talk/troll. They may not be a proportionally larger demographic than teenagers and young adults, but your brain remembers negative experiences more often than positive ones so they stick out more.

I'd tend to go philo early on for Q spam and later shurelya to help him engage/disengage, and mallet/aegis if I need to go tanky, triforce/GA if I need to do damage. The "do damage" part is probably wrong, but most comps require me to play tanky anyway.

The "do damage" part is probably wrong, but most comps require me to play tanky anyway. Wriggles+Tabi/Mercs+Visage is the common core to how both Jatt and Lilballz played him. Provides a basic mix of your defensive stats and gets you started on CDR. Wriggle's is necessary because since you build minimal damage for a long time, you need the proc to maintain your farming ability through mid-lategame.
After that, you focus on defensive/CDR/utility items. How you choose to get that is up to playstyle, personal preference, and how the game develops. Jatt preferred Shurelya's and Aegis, while Lilballz seems to buy Frozen or Randuin's more often.
Damage only comes as your 5th or 6th item. Triforce is the safe, well-rounded option, while Black Cleaver and Bloodrazor are both situational options. Trundle's power development suits going full defense into one all-in damage item lategame, rather than a bunch of half-defense items along the way like Mallet or Wit's.

This hits the nail on the head. I love trundle. He was my favorite jungler for a while. His problems are simply too numerous. Any of his redeeming qualities can be matched by other junglers that also do things better than he does.

Can you give some more specific information on what happened? Did you play passive? Did you get camped?
Poppy isn't known for her stellar laning, as she can't push or farm, so I'm not sure how she would win against a Jayce.

How would Trundle be buffed anyways? I find his problems stem from low ganking power (compared to a lot of the top junglers) and low clear speed, but how would that be changed without changing his kit around?

It's something I've thought about a lot and I haven't been able to figure it out without sweeping changes. Reduction in his CD's and mana cost might make him be able to fly around faster by dropping W's more frequently to get to lanes/jungle camps and still being able to spam Q frequently in the jungle to help clear speeds. Those would keep his playstyle the same w/o a major overhaul that might make him more viable. Even then I don't think he'd be anything special, but you never know. Maybe even turning his W into a direct steroid might help him out a good deal (maybe even too much on that, but hard to say).
