Even if you're not planning to gank at level 2, it's always good to have the ability to if one of the lanes start do something stupid and give you a easy target.

Assuming you're top lane as somebody with solid sustain against an opponent you can probably bully a little bit and wont out sustain you. Why don't I see people open Boots + 2 pots + ward while waiting to buy that ward at the start. It seems strong so you can really take advantage of your opponent and push to your heart's content.
Specifically I mention it because I've recently been playing Renekton and pretty much dominate my early game, but their jungler coming top really puts an end to some of my aggression. Is there some major downside I'm missing to this?
Nah, its good, I've done it with panth when I see a good matchup and/or i get a cv and see them starting not cloth5 or without much armor on like nasus

Because at really high level play if you can just roll over your lane you can have your Support ward for you at the start of the game and roll over them harder with your extra pot.
That being said, Ward good. It not bad especially on someone like Renekton.

I think I love ORB just because they do such random comps/builds.
We've got heimer/ziggs/nunu/warwick/cait. nunu has promote/CV.
They are already behind with a first blood in the jungle as well, haha. Should be a fun game.

5 man mid push! This is amazing.
Well, they completely botched it. Giving up first blood in the jungle put them behind and then they got scared and abandoned the strat, only to come back to after kennen hit 6.
I really think it could have worked because (imo) TSM responded all wrong by also sending 5 mid. If you are runed and specced for an ARAM, you are going to beat the team going for a traditional comp who responds by sending everyone mid.
Once TSM has time to think about they will respond correctly the next time around and it won't work. Oh well, still fun to watch

I've played that comp a few times and also against it twice, and I feel like the best option is to send a strong midgame character with good waveclear to solo push with TP. As long as you have a few heros with strong waveclear you can hold out long enough for the solo pusher to get some levels, then you just have him roll over everything.
If you do lose inhib early it's game though.

They tried a new strat and messed up. Not a waste of time. I really believe they weren't trolling but trying to catch TSM off guard with something they haven't seen.
As I stated earlier, I think TSM panicked and reacted entirely wrong, but ORB just botched the execution. Just like in SC when someone goes for a cheese and a fail they look stupid, but it doesn't mean it is always stupid to cheese.
I just don't understand why ORB went all mid, then went to lanes after getting that first early kill. If they stayed mid I think that game is a win, because TSM was also leaving 5 mid instead of sending 1 or 2 to another lane to farm up.

There needs to be more players and teams willing to take risks in splitting up and playing with different people. Volatility in team lineups is bad in the short-term as teams don't have time to really get into the groove with one another, but in the long term produces overall more solid teams as everyone gets to know who in the scene they play well with and who they don't.
Remember how well CDE worked together? If there was a major reshuffle among the top NA teams, and people just got experience playing with different teams, the rearranged teams that eventually come out of it might be a LOT more successful than the teams that we have currently (who, in the case of teams like CLG and TSM, make changes very slowly and infrequently to their lineups, if at all). Too many ego's on NA teams imo. No one is gunna be willing to just shuffle around just to experiment, especially when it's usually the weakest players on the team that get shuffled (and weakest players happen to be the face/owner of said team (hsgg, regi, etc. etc.).

^^ it's sad to see how hsgg and regi were among the best players before, but now they just flail... its as if they fall back on the fact that they were great to not care that everyone is better than them
jesus christ crumbzz was talking about bot for literally a minute and the cameraman was just switching between top and mid which were both just farming

I personally think we should restrict the champ pool to olaf, shen, ryze, ahri, soraka, janna, mundo, shyvana, graves, urgot. No bans, support AD bot always. I would watch that.

ORB playing really well this game. Pretty surprised TSM let them get both shen and tf and they seem to be paying for it now.
Actually it is pretty close with dyrus pushing around shen top. Should be really interesting end game.
UPDATE: yeah, it looks like TSM simply has better skills as every lane is getting more ahead on their own when ganks aren't happening.

Hotshot/Regi were never the best players, just the faces of their respective teams which were the biggest names in NA. Hotshot in particular was even more famous because early on he was pretty much the only high Elo streamer and was on a successful team.
But still, they've never been the best in their roles at any point in time.

Watching a stream, a dude is sad after a throw, so he goes "only way to win a game is Xin", goes mid against Annie. A huge jungle Alistar ganks left and right, destroys people, saves others, stays alive, and then Xin with 3-4 kills and an assist follows in a teamfight and gets a penta. Two fights later, 2v4 when he finally reaches it. A ward allows Vayne to wallstun him when he's waiting in a bush to engage. Soraka uses W and ult to make sure he lives, Xin dives into Annie, Vlad, Vayne, Shyvana. Quadra kill.
Wtf. 1400 Elo so crazy. But I'm so laughing out loud in front of my computer (and the dude is too, such a huge grin on his cam. I can understand. ).
