I actually asked this question ~6 months ago becaues it seemed to me that each point of mpen increases your damage more than each point of ap.
I think the simplest answer was basically a) no one bothered to actually do the math to figure it out and b) the thing about mpen is that you basically depend on getting as close as you can to 0. If you go over, you waste slots. If you go way under, well, you just look stupid once you get void. Whereas ap is always good. The MR window in which MPen is "efficient" compared to AP is actually way bigger than people make it out to be. Part of this is because while MR makes MPen worse, this is counteracted by the fact that because MPen is a multiplicative damage increase, it gets BETTER when you have higher AP and spell damage. Even if your 10 MPen is only ~4-5% damage increase (which is about how much 10 MPen is worth vs ~150 MR targets), when you're at the point where you've got 300 AP, and your spells are each doing 500 damage, that 10 MPen is still worth like 25 damage per spell, which is probably better than what you could get in AP. I did the math ages ago at some point (IIRC it even pertained to a discussion with Smash and Uta about Sorc Boots). on the tangent of sorc boots since i want to talk about them! does anyone else feel that sorc boots are 99% of the time just the best boots on every hero. because of tenacity. other sources of tenacity are a pain to get without derping yourself over but its such a powerful stat it feels impossible to play without it. im talking about on things like ap mids who traditionally go penetration boots for a bit of bonus damage. Merc treads? I see what you're saying but maybe as the AD/AP carry your optimally going to position well and not get caught by cc so the added damage from berserker's or sorceror's is better? b.f. sword, ruby crystal, stuff like that can get you to almost any item in 2 clicks, the reccomended items as they are now, aren't useless but they aren't nearly as helpful as they could be.

yes i meant to type merc vs sorc and then went on a brain fart ill correct my post.

Ward placement needs to be global broadcast since it needs to trigger a soundfile. That's how you hear someone placing a ward if you're near by. Same goes for use of abilites if you're within range.
Anyway, Riot QA has been informed. Thanks.

Wait so are you telling me that ability use is globally broadcast too? Because that would be even worse. I appreciate them working on wards though.

Did anybody get the Warlord Shen skin? I was quite disappointed in the way how Shen walks in the new skin. He walks crippled and tilts to his left side every step, so lame (no pun intended).

Let's do some theorycrafting.
I'm not sure if Riot undated the rune stats on the website yet so these numbers could be wrong, but with magic pen reds blues and quints you get the flat penetration to 21.21. If you buy an abyssal that will go to 41.21 + 10% flat from masteries and shoot your mr up to 87 to counter act the enemy who's going for a 30 flat magic pen build. This will allow for casters to break away from the standard route of going magic pen boots, and open up opportunities to buy ninja tabi to tank creeps and freeze the lane, or mobility boots to shove the lane and roam. What are your thoughts guys?
Aside from abyssal being a stupid item for roaming, as they will be able to tell you're in a bush even with out wards because of the picture of the effect coming up on their screen with you standing near them.
|
doesnt stacking flat mpen increase the value of sorc boots though? and devalue a void staff.
surely a better plan is running massive amounts of flat ap, picking up early merc treads or whatever and then rushing a void staff as like 2/3rd major item rather than 3/4th

Buying Tabi for the purpose of freezing midlane is quite possibly the worst idea I've heard.
|
Yeah tabi was a pretty dumb idea, but what about some one like Galio/Morge, pulling everbody in with the ultimate, and shredding their MR, while you run a double AP comp and the other caster benefits from the abyssal as well, or throwing silver boots on some one like Ryze with a Janna passive would be annoying as hell to catch.
|
MPen runes aren't necessary for Abyssal to be a good buy on a tanky AP. Trading 20 MPen for 20 Movespeed on an AP is quite possibly the worst idea I've heard.
You need to spend more time examining your ideas before you post them.

So which idea was worse the tabi or the boots 3?
|
i dunno their both pretty retarded ;D
i have been experimenting with boots of mobility on a lot of heroes, it stops you ever getting in that stupid chase situation where someone is running from you at 10% hp and you cant catch them, but its a huge gamble

is there a way to get more IP other than winning games and using real $$?
|
Tribunal. If you refer accounts (i.e your Smurfs) and level them to level 5, you get a 4-win IP boost (and if you refer 10, you get a one time 975 RP).
I've always liked the idea of Boots of Swiftness ignoring unit collision (Rammus would be a fairly easy patch, just take the effect off during Powerball). That or bump the speed boost to 4 and 6 respectively.

Probably just meant afk farm.

You get IP boosts if you refer friends to LoL, as well as several other bonus...
There is also the Tribunal, but in my experience I'd rather just play a game.

if you want to farm ip mostly for the purpose of buying a champion. refering yourself 10 times and leveling the accounts to lvl 5 is faster. from the free 6300 champ and the ip boost you get for every referal its worth about 10k ip to do. which i think is considerably faster than playing enough games to do so normally

Just you have to live with the fact that you're cheating the system. A small price to pay for most people I suppose...
