Nothing will block champions like Cho'gath. That thing's a bloody wall.
As far as Rumble, I am seeing alot of those defensive items things he's not going to get for quite sometime. I mean it's going to be at least 30 minutes in before he's going to be finishing his Deathcap after Rylai's and or Rylai's after Deathcap. Saying a champion is strong with six items is kind of a given. Rarely however do you get to finish a build.
Rumble's strong don't get me wrong, but I see him as I do Irelia or Riven. Strong but nothing more so then any other champion. I dunno I don't claim to be some amazing player and I very well may be wrong but the Rumble's no more a bastard then half the other top laners. I think you guys just have bad memories when his ult was at like what, 30seconds?

Okay, I was using Fiora, going top and opened with cloth+5. I faced a Pantheon and got destroyed. I could not go near him without eating a spear, and I could not trade with him even after I got my boost (he had his stun). Later in the lane, the pots became less useful, he could zone me even more, and killing him became rather impossible. What am I supposed to do vs a Pantheon?

If that's not an option (lol) then just ask jungler to camp your lane.

Take XP and pray you can take him on with the few creeps you got at lvl9+. He is very strong early on but his 1v1 power drops significantly past lvl6 usually.

He's a manaless champion with ridiculously short cooldowns. No matter how strong he is, he's just beyond annoying. He's a dick to play against and there's no phase in the game where he's really weak. It's just that champ (much like Yorick) where you instantly go ''meh.'' when you see the enemy team pick him.

I'd say it drops past 12.

Rumble is obscene lategame because his AP ratios for massive AOE skills are absurd. If he gets off ult and one flamethrower its well over 2000 damage on each person hit, and up to 3500 on each person, plus a massive 35% slow. Its flat out the most damage output of any character in the game.

Armor quints, glyphs, seals (If you commonly play solotop, a full armor runepage is absolutely essential), and defensive masteries and cloth 5. It should give you 75 armor at level 1.
Q first, and before he gets his aegis up, go on him with Q -> hits as many as you can -> Q again -> retreat. You should be able to deal a good bunch of damage. Repeat this continuously, skilling W at lvl 2. Keep the trades up, Pantheons generally don't have enough armor to handle this and you should win in sustain, especially with the 4 stacker passive after every exchange. Tabi -> Wriggles.

The panth will outdamage you easily at lvl 1 -.-; If you Q him, you eat a spear to the face and his spear outdamages your Q. If you try to stand and auto, he'll do the same and end up ahead.

Your passive makes it so that it doesn't really matter if he outdamages you. He also definitely won't win with autos vs 75 armors when you have your passive at 4 stacks, again.

Perhaps not balls out full armor page, but cloth+5, +6 armor in the defensive masteries tree, and armor yellows + perhaps armor quints in a minimum. Also you can ask for an early gank since Pantheon has no escape whatsoever (though after 6 he can escape with his ult if your jungler doesn't have hard cc either, or blow it early and you can't burst Panth before he channels).
Edit: without E, you may have trouble forcing trades, Shikyo, simply because Panth has the most movespeed in the game tied with Yi (330) and he'd usually add some MQ quints of switfness masteries to go with it.

Rumble's core items? The only "core item" that gives him the ability to survive is rylai's and wota. I mean I guess you can throw tabi but to be honest the downside to rumble in a teamfight is you have 1 chance to land the ult and going in often means you won't be going out if the team fight isn't going your way. He's squishy in the sense of any melee you need to go in at the right time or you die. This is pending you are not far and away ahead.
I still don't understand all of the rumble anger, he's strong but no more strong then any of the other top laners. Rylai, wota, abyssal, zhonya, deathcap, defensive boots 5 of 6 provide survivability Glaceau - in game name or all talk imo btw why does SG have like 10000 members
10 actual members so we can inhiuse for practice 7 of which see significant playtime, we have a rotating roster since most of us have a lot of irl obligations Then the sg community is pretty big too, we have a lot of wow and sc2 and minecraft members... When they make lol accounts they add sg to their names. It's a community thing like some tl members have tl prefixes

Why don't pro teams do more ranked 5's? Especially TSM, since they have a team house?

They do daily scrims afaik, which often is better since you're consistently vsing the teams you'll be playing in tournies, and not random teams in ranked 5's. Lets you try out different things, like how Regi began playing leblanc or ziggs a lot.

I just feel that too many of the pro's are playing way too many solo q's.
Solo q is great for practicing mechanics, and lane phase. but it's still pretty meh. And if more pro teams did ranked 5's, it essentially lead to more scrim esque games.

Yes, just join the community at www.severitygaming.com and then you can get whitelisted on our server. I don't know a ton about it because I don't play much, but you can pm me with questions and I can find out the answers for you

Why aren't you guys taking W on Fiora top first anyway? I've been 1v1ing panths so long as you have smart use of your block. Level 1 is easy, its 2-8 that are hard. At 9 you should have maxed your E and be able to easily out last him with the massive attack speed and lifesteal you get from Wriggles. Plus if he drops sub 40% ignite and kill that little 300 wanabe.
