lol Tencent is top 10 IT company in the world.

and Chinese gamers are NOT poor actually.

they go to work then play games, game is probably their only way to spend money since ppl in china have 0 activity.

few years ago a friend of mine just spent like 1000$ on a game which is hosted by a Illegal private server , ya private server. what an idiot.

hehe, will leave lurker status just cause i have access to some info from mergermarket (huge m&a database, hope it copy pastes well):

Deal ID288319
Announcement date 04/02/2011
Completion date 08/03/2011

Deal Value EUR 294 m
Deal nature Recommended
Deal types Acquisition, Cross border, Exit, Private

Tencent Holdings Ltd, the listed China based provider of internet, mobile value-added services and online advertising services, has acquired a majority stake in Riot Games Inc., the US based company that develops and publishes online video games, from Benchmark Capital and FirstMark Capital, LLC, the US based private equity and venture capital firms, for a total consideration of USD 400m.

Under the terms of agreement, Riot Games management team will receive some portion of the consideration, but will also retain an equity stake in the company. Post acquisition, Riot Games will operate as an independent company and its existing management team will continue to lead all aspects of the company. This acquisition will provide Riot Games designers, developers and community staff with additional resources to focus on innovating around ‘League of Legends’ and launching new projects that push the boundaries in the gaming space. Prior to this transaction, Tencent Holdings along with Benchmark Capital and Firstmark Capital has invested in Riot Games.

The transaction which is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to complete in 30 days.

Riot Games Inc., Deal Announcement (04-Feb-2011)

they were advised by Qatalyst btw, which is a top-notch (the best tbh) m&a technology boutique run by Frank Quattrone (the internet boom m&a king), so they truly are on the radar of the top investment banks and boutiques, i.e. not only successfull from our gaming point of view but also very promising from a financial pov. Also, Tencent has no incentive at all for "milking" this franchise, they have such a huge and deep capital base that building recurring cashflows is a much safer way to get a good roi instead of "milking", you should realise that gaming has really become a business, and exploiting is simply not a strong strategy in a mature industry

Not entirely related to this patch but now I can buy rune pages on CN server. Fuck yeah, but at a hefty price. 20$ for two, yeah two rune pages.

I think the Taiwan server gave away a free rune page as compensation for anyone who was affected by server troubles about a week ago. If you were maxed out you got 6300 IP instead.

Oh right, by the way, is it true there's an individual rating every player gets that quantifies his average playing performance in games? What stats are taken into account other than KDA?

lol, that's crazy. $20 buys 7 on NA

Tencent's business strategy is to milk as much as possible from a game, not to trying to growing it. I am quite worry about LoL since Tencent bought Riot. Heard some rummors that new champs will be OP and easy to play as hell cos Tencent wanted them so.

Just to let you guys know about the pricing on CN server. $20 for 2 rune pages and no option to buy pages buy IP. A new champ is about $8. They also divide skin into class, legendary class(those like Teemo spacesuit skin or Frost Annie) are $15.
Cheapest skin is about $2~3. There are so much weird shit on CN server I should start a thread about it. LOL

Apart from the runes, that is pretty much par for the course on NA. You need to spend $10 USD to be able to afford a champion or a skin (although you will end up with a bit left over). Skins go from about $15-20 USD to $5.

So ya, the only thing that is REALLY different is the fact they screw you over for rune pages.

Well, if you compare it the income people make in NA and CN. The price on CN is ridiculous. I mean you can get a meal here for one person for like $3(in big city like Shanghai or Beijing, will be much less elsewhere in China). Students that just graduated college make like $400~$500(again in big city).

Definitely not $500 a year... and are we talking about CNY or USD?

@above Tencent actually made an acquisition of Riot... iirc they paid $400 million USD.

"Riot Games was founded five years ago by Beck and Marc Merrill, who saw potential in an idea dubbed “session-based” gaming, or short games you could play during a lunch break. "
source
interesting.. I wouldn't exactly call LoL a game you can play in your lunch break.

That $500 is ofc a month.
Also, SC2 is now selling for $15 in CN as well.

So it's not very expensive at all, then.

I find it hard to believe that college graduates only make $500 CNY =~= $80 USD a month.. I haven't been to China in a couple years nor do I have any clue what the economy is like there but from what my parents tell me (who are Chinese) it's getting a lot better over there... lot of jobs for younger people. Maybe manual labor like Foxconn workers will only make that much, but I doubt college grads.

@above your rating (ELO) is solely dependent on the amount of games you win/lose; it is slightly affected by your opponents' ratings, but does not factor in KDA or any in-game stats whatsoever.

edit: regarding the info pfff posted, I'm assuming this means Tencent has no bearing on the decisions Riot makes (for the mosat part). I remember reading it somewhere; basically Riot has full control still over how the game grows. Tencent is just providing resources for international expansion.

what the fuck, i guess thats 500$ dollars, not 500¥ RMB.
college graduates makes at least 500 dollars, u cant even find a house to rent with $80usd a month lol

When LoL was first release in China, you can buy rune page for 6300IP as well but after a few months they took that out.

And yeah, there is this little "add on" to LoL client that help you evaluate your team in term of "Power score", but its not accurate most of the time.

@Jaso: Its USD500 not CNY.

What the hell? I was playing a normal and Fiora just parried an ashe ult....chasing ashe and she arrowed and the arrow went directly through her while "parried" appeared....wut? I dont think thats supposed to happen?
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

^Ashe bug. I thought it was fixed. Something about if the target is too close then it misses. I've seen it miss targets that were a bit far though.

Depends on the other team imo. If they have a fed long range ap/ad carry with extreme damage and little defense, a farmed poppy is better than any other top laner since you are basically guaranteed to kill them and turn it into a 5v4.

Against a team with auto attackers dealing most of the damage i like nasus because wither is one of the most OP spells in the game imo.

Trynd, irelia, gp, riven, rumble, shen, and jarvan are all very strong in just about any situation late game imo unless they got denied early.
This, my friends, is the power of the Shikyo Memorial for QQ therapy thread. We make the world a better place, one chainsaw massacre prevention at a time.

Then riven and kennen overall
Then irelia and gp overall

LOL gtrstr real rumble hater I haven't lost a lane to rumble or see rumble do anything useful in forever.
Never seen riven do super well compared to irelia either cause of armour building.

how can you possibly argue that anyone outscales a champ that can get infinity dmg? ;p surely nasus is the hardest scaling top possible? :D his other abilities except his armor reduction also scale off of the other teams stats, making them better and better the longer the game goes on.

Scaling is say, every 10 minuets assuming a game of LoL basically never lasts more than 40-50 minutes.
