In my mind, she is the strongest support when it comes to zoning people and building an advantage for your AD carry, as well as providing decent sustain with W. I think now with bot constantly warded and the summoner heal trend, people are even less willing to commit against a Sona/AD combo. This ends up giving extra room for Sona to be aggressive and beat out other supports to win the lane.
I was thinking about this earlier but I am starting to feel that people would still pick Sona even if her spells don't generate a passive aura simply because they are almost just bonuses from all the things she does well.
Sona is definitely a cut above the rest, she does amazing damage, is tied for best healing and has a game-changing ultimate. I think Sona is around the strength that supports should be, the others should be buffed to match her. This please. Stop nerfing my Sona more. T.T tbh I think janna is a lot stronger than Sona in more team comps. Also, I've yet to see amazing sona's. I rarely see sona's who actually use their passive aside from huurrr durrr poke.

Support can be real fun when your team actually is a good quality. Being support and being able to control the map through 2000000 wards + oracles and not dying gives such a satisfying feeling. Just don't ever let dnastx play alistar support.

Soraka bait is the most funny thing in the world.
Their bot lane diving you as soraka? Heal, heal, HEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend only plays Sona for support and he's really good at her. He and I haven't lost lane once with him playing Sona (as in, I always out CS my opponent, we usually get kills in lane, etc). He knows how to use her passive properly and it's her passive that makes him like Sona so much as he finds it to be unique and requiring actual planning ahead of your spells. Sadly, he can pretty much only play Sona.
But I do agree that Janna is probably better than Sona. The problem is that Sona is ridiculously easy. Even if all you do is mash Q+W you'll still probably be doing better than someone who's just decent on a lot of other supports. Janna's issue is that she doesn't have a heal aside from her ult and she actually takes skill to be effective unlike Soraka/Sona (not that they don't take skill but it's really hard to fuck up as those two champions).
Actually, y'know what, I think Janna is probably the best support outside of lane phase but I don't think she's as strong as Sona during laning.

Support is fun enough for me though. I enjoy healing and supporting in teamfights as it present its own challenges. Just I hate not being able to talk quickly to your lane partner to fight or disengage. Sometimes with Alistar I will pulverize just to harass when they face check bushes, but then occasionally my partner thinks that means we're committing to fight and one of us ends up dying for no reason. Correct me if I'm wrong but a team did the taric thing recently in the Kiev IEM. They forced a flash, but were just shy of the kill.

I think my new favorite thing to do is (if on the right side) facecheck the bottom tribrush at 1:40 to challenge gols and just do some random damage on either the support or AD. So fun to see both at half health lvl 1 without pots on the AD. :S
Random rant: Whoever you are, the most annoying thing you can do in this game is... WHINE. "LOL THEY PICKED XY GG" ... Then maybe even laning against that champ and bitching HOW OP he/she is all fucking game. Or, you lose your lane 0-1, get denied a bit and whine at your jungle all fucking game without realizing your mid is 2-0 and your bot 3-1 but you just KEEP CRYING to ruin everyones mood and make people pissed off.
I h a t e people who try to throw games as early as possible just to be RIGHT about some stupid statement they made earlier.
Don't be that guy. Don't whine that something is off. Negative attitude is contagious and makes people play worse.

You can thank me later. Actually I've had the enemy bot come to our golems 3 times when I was supporting. Picked up first blood each 3 times lol. The thing with whining is, most people get so caught up in their own whining or arguing that they simply stop playing the game. Going 1-5 as a team in the first 10minutes doesn't lose you the game, spending 90% of your time whining does, don't think they'll ever learn though.

Didn't 'just flash away'. I'm pretty sure he got ganked very soon afterwards and died because he had no flash. So it was definitely worth it.

Well her passive in a big team fight doesn't really...do much. The different ability passive hits don't have fancy effects that make it super obvious when someone got hit, so even if that sona nails enemy AP with the -dmg, you'll likely not even notice it in the battle. -20% yea it's on paper a huge deal, but it's -20% on one target and that's it. Same for the slow, more than likely someone else has a stronger slow and that was that then.

Someone jumps on your carry, hit them with it, your carry survives/even kills them. It's like a mini exhaust that's avaible much more often.

Slowing something so your carry can kite is also huge. Management of your passive is what makes good Sonas come out ahead.

You FP'd sivir. Enemy team picks Graves.
It is your turn next to pick a support before them, which do you pick and why?
|
Probably Sona because Sona OP and Sivir likes having a laner who can be aggressive on demand.

Soraka is IMO the best support to play with Sivir, as sivir is extremely mana hungry and soraka can help with that and giving Sivir the ability to outpush graves at any time neccesary. Having the ability to use boomerang consistantly in lane vs once or twice is absolutely massive, also soraka is strong vs graves because its easy to predict when graves wants to use his big damage spells and silence him. You can get in great situations like where graves dashes forward to use his Q-R, gets silenced which allows sivir to get ready to spell shield and essentially ruins his burst damage opportunity.
|
Yeah, but then you have almost no kill threat. Sivir can already farm easily without needing constant mana infusions, whereas Soraka's main use in a lane is to allow you to farm against a stronger lane.

You can thank me later. Sometimes the jungle does fuck things up and make the mid lane OP though lol. I actually qq'd today when my jungle gave a kass blue at level 2 and then having his jungle give blue the rest of the game while my jungler took 2nd and 3rd. Kass with blue 1-5 means I couldn't take advantage of his weak laning phase and then his blue later on = R Q harrass. But yeah, I guess my point doesn't exactly match yours since they throw the games. >_<

She cant farm and really use her skills to the max. Just the ability to spam boomerang blade gives you kill potential, its a nuts damage and range skill. There's a big difference between judiciously using a skill and just slamming it out every CD.
Just last week Phreak was streaming himself playing Sivir/soraka vs graves/sona(or maybe some other support but i think it was sona), and doing a great job showing how ridiculous it is, graves was totally zoned and had no chance of retaliating. Soraka's harass is also fine with infuse vs graves with his smaller range

Sona OP, does tons of damage and might scare graves into not even wanting to harass you, if they do go for sivir W +powerchord shuts down most of it. Saying soraka's harass is also fine with infuse is dumb, if you infuse graves for minor damage(it's really nothing compared to a Q powerchord), you don't have mana for sivir, which was your reason to run soraka with a sivir.
