My game knowledge and skill should be decent enough for entry level ranked, I just want to know what to expect. What roles should I expect to play? Are there any trends at entry level ELO such as common bans, common picks?
What should I expect from my team? Should I expect them to call mias, level 1 invasions, and follow the current meta?
Champs I know how to play: Anivia, Fiddlesticks, Janna, Karma, Lee Sin, Nasus, Rammus, Singed, Skarner, Sona, Twitch, Urgot, Vayne, Xerath, Yorick
sound good? though I expect that no amount of advice will prepare me to deal with the trolls and retards in the game. better just man up
you wont have much fun if you care or even rage about teammates playing bad or making mistakes. The most fun comes from improving and doing as much as you can for your team to win. Those champions you mentioned are all strong soloq picks with the exception of twitch and karma I think. Most players don't understand the strengths of karma and will be alienated if you call a solo mid/top lane. Also alot of people don't like Twitch because he snowballs in both directions very hard (either awesome or useless). Playing champions that people don't see often can be a psychological mistake. Most high elo players spam a limited set of champions they are very good at until they reach their level. The 1.1k-1.3k range is considered very random because of the huge skill difference between the players there. gl and hf.

I just started my first ranked games about a week ago, so my experience is only 3 games, but it's probably more recent than when most people were at this level. So I found the amount of trolling and raging to be much less than I expected (seemed close to the level of normal draft mode, maybe even less... but I probably just got lucky). Got invaded in the first game only. People do call mias but I would never count on it. At least in my first 2 games, team comps were extremely melee heavy. I think top, mid, and jungle tend to be fairly normal picks but bot lane could be pretty much anything.
btw, I had a Twitch first-pick, and had teammates dodge like 3 times in a row before the enemy team finally started banning Twitch...
And how do you go about banning + first picking in solo queue? When I was first I just decided I was gonna play Cass and banned the things I didn't want to see (Shaco, Rammus, and Kassadin)... but should I put more thought into it? I never really even considered being first pick before because I'm almost always a later pick in normal draft mode, but I'm usually a top ~3 pick in my ranked games.

^^ Twitch is an amazing solo Q pick especially at low ELO. No pink wards no oracles, gank all day.

Wtf karma's so good solo que because no one knows how to play against her and everyone underestimates her burst, and they pick kassadin and expect to do well.

No one knows how to play her equates to every solo mid karma I've had going 0-9.

Well they certainly fucked kayle over with her rework TT. Even in Co-op vs AI I hear people saying "no wonder I stopped playing kayle, I forgot how weak she got".
And lee sin isn't hard to play. Just like Garen isn't easy. You can pick up both in two days of playing the game. It's not like anyone uses wards to chase with sin or cares if they miss their Q anyways.
Poppy is pretty sick. Her Ult is fun to use, it's like you get lazor focus on one target. Or you can ult a support that's running away and be invulnerable to all the things for 8 seconds Without her ult she'd seem really really underpowered and frankly boring.
I think Riot does need something to fill their employees time with, and it's fine to teach them decision making processes. But some of their examples don't make sense.
Designer makes complex design loved by hardcore users such as the designer Implementation is done, and is incomprehensible to most players The only champion I can think of that falls in this category has to be karma. I played her, I still don't know how to be good with her. People often joke about not knowing who karma is "oh you mean that thing that buddists believe about bad things happening to bad people?" Probably because they never see her. If the characters are more complex then players will invest time into a few characters and get more emotionally attached to a select few. It's probably a good thing.

lee sin isn't hard to play? meh ill accept that, ok
garen isn't easy? wtf lol the only thing that remotely suggests difficult about garen is the stretched ulti bug and perhaps Qautoatkcancel/ Espincancel which i would categorize as common sense tbh
zileas did hint at a poppy remake during the presentation so yea

karma has deceptively strong burst with an REQ combo, and good sustain/trading ability with ERQ amazing utility, farm, pushing potential, limited only by mantra cooldown IMO and W so rewarding to use, if you can drag it across a team fight O_O
<3 karma
and <3 tl, good advice. i'll probably see you guys in the QQ thread once i start ranked. keke

I'm still playing normals with low ip champs. So when I'm forced to play support and the other team has soraka plus an ad carry that harasses a lot like graves or ashe I know I'm screwed. A lot of it has to do with most people not knowing how to avoid taking damage. If I had Sona I would use her, but Alistar, Janna, Taric don't seem to keep up with Soraka heals. I suppose I just need to learn how to be more effective with the more offense supports I have left. Though I'm guessing I should just use Taric if I want a healbot instead of alistar like I have been doing. That or just buy sona.

Wasn't the garen and lee sin example that lee sin is an example of a higher skill cap champ liked by hardcore players due to his more complex kit, while garen is an example of a lower skill level champ better for beginners due to his simplicity in his kit?

K. Its official. M5 fucking ruined shyvana. God dammit. Need new underplayed jungle.

Bromaciaaaaaaa ;(
I loved the poppy example of poppy already having a working kit but needed an ult. lol he literally basically told us "well, poppy works as is with 3 skills, so lets just give her invulnerability and cc immunity for an ult while we're at it and call her done." :D

Isn't there always Jarvan as a good underplayed jungler?

Her W is extremely generic and doesn't really add to her flavour at all. But of course game design works in unintuitive ways at times.

in what universe is shyvana an underplayed jungler? she's in like every 3-4 games
|
I see her once every 20 games or so in ranked 1900s.

LMAO
Dyrus 11/0/2 Master Yi trolling the fuck out of people on smurf. So fucking insane.

The main problem is now people know she exists. Like I played a game today where my team melted down completely and proclaimed that I was trying to copy m5.

She's both easy to play, and you can do some cool things that people often overlook (like picking the right powerchord for the situation, or landing DAT SONA ULT juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust riiiiiiiight.) Also, I'm pretty sure Alistar's heals per second are higher than Taric's - his cooldown is pushed by creeps dying, taric's is pushed by autoing, which you don't have the luxury of doing.
