Dunno, but you assuming that Kayle has to be a support kinda makes it seem like you're the baddie.

I won a game last night almost purely because of our team's Xerath. I was getting counterjungled like mad by the opponent Udyr so I was behind by like 2-3 levels in the midgame, and this kinda snowballed into our mid and bot lane getting crushed because the Udyr's ganks were so much stronger than mine, and I couldn't really stop it. Our top lane's Jax was doing okay though, and he managed to farm pretty decently.
We lost most of the big team fights but our Xerath managed to steal every single Baron attempt with his ult, and we won the game after a long hour being carried by our super-Jax and stolen Baron buffs.

Not really I that was the one who assumed she was going to support, I was second pick and took the jungle while vayne insta-locked in and Brand was initially going to be Sona before deciding "we aren't sending an afk guy mid" and taking Brand.
The conversation went sort of like this:

"Take cv you're support"
"I'm ad not support :D"
"Vayne is our fucking ad, you were afk you got pigeon-holed into support"

Armor counters Garen pretty well. You just need to survive his burst and not get zoned by him because you scale much better than he does. As long as you aren't very far behind you're won the lane.
After he finishes spinning you should jump on him and damage him since he won't be able to do anything about it with all his cooldowns used.

swain destroys garen. if you dont want to do that, any ranged champ will do well enough, just ward the brushes and start boots and he can never get close to you

I go cloth 5 pot and try to force him back / kill him during early levels if possible. Otherwise, you're wanting to max the damage you can do to him w/ your W while his spin or at least his silence is on cd. I find either person can win a 1v1 in the latter part of lane phase depending on how well you can avoid his spin and the size of the creep wave. If you eat a full silence + spin he's going to do way more damage to you than you'll do to him.

the true dmg you do until lvl 4-5 doesn't even amount to an autoattack's dmg, ppl vastly overestimate it. u really think 15 guaranteed dmg on amumu will offset the fact that you're doing like -100 dmg on your autoattacks?

Your baseline attack damage is like 70 at that level. Baseline armor to expect from someone is like 20-30, which is 20ish % damage reduction (so you're doing like 55-60 damage a hit). If he has 70 armor, that's 40% damage reduction, which means you'd do about 40 damage a hit.
So yes, 15 true damage almost exactly offsets the reduced damage AA damage from high armor.

With this setup you'll rock up in lane with 31 armpen, and possibly ~25armor/~35MR at level 1, depending on which blues you took. Unless your lane opponent specs a full armor runepage giving him +40 armor at level one (equating to ~65with masteries and base armor), then you'll be doing true damage from at least levels 1-8.

If I lane e.g. as Irelia vs Panth or Talon I'll show up to lane with 68 armor at lvl 1 and 5 pots. Have fun trying to break through that. By the time I'm out of pots, you're out of mana and we're both lvl 5-6.
The simple idea of SPECULATING that the enemy top laner is completely retarded and does not use Armor Quints + cloth+5 start is a pretty bad idea.

If Irelia starts null magic+2 and runes full mr page amumu can't do anything to irelia either, just rush wits end and you should win easily.
If amumu wastes mana just E and run away with stun, or E and W and trade after your W has a few levels. I don't know how amumu can kill you through self healing without running oom fast.
