She lacks damage (maybe because of her ratios) as an AP carry I guess, I'm not specialist though, and almost any champ can carry if mastered.

Lux actually does a great job as primary ap carry late game, mostly because her combination of cc, a great deal of damage, and the ability to ulti twice most teamfights. A fed lux is actually really scary damage wise.

End game her pewpewlazer ult is at 24second cd @ 40% cdr which you get by just blue buff and elixir, so it's a good poke, wave clearer, snipe tool.
Tho she is so very fragile, someone gets up to your face and you miss your Q, you're dead.

Tho she is so very fragile, someone gets up to your face and you miss your Q, you're dead. Fragility shouldnt matter on lux. Your spell ranges are so absurd that if you get hit by anyone, you pretty much deserve to die. The best thing about her is the sheer amount of damage she can dish out without ever putting herself in harms way.

Interesting. I suppose I need to just work on my skillshots. Last night I just got frustrated with her because my lane buddy went afk half the match and I was solo v Cho'Gath and Miss Fortune. It was... terrrrrible.
But yeah, she's fun. I feel like she lacks the "pew pew you're dead" that other carries can pull off, but the control is really nice, especially for assists.

u can just build soulstealer with her, cause you are 1km away from a fight and still get all the assists. Then lategame you can spam your ultimate and be scary.

Lux is really fun to play and offers really good utility in 1v1, skirmishes and big teamfights due to the AoE/multiple-target of all of her skills, but she definitely lacks the insane burst of carries like Annie.
|
Part of the key to playing her is making sure you get your first spell rotation off properly. You want to force fights in small enclosed areas where you will be able to ult their entire team. Open with your ult, then spam out your q and e. I find its generally users choice as to when you want to pop e, as the slow is fairly significant. I generally try to keep it up until people are starting to move out of it, then pop it right before they do. Then just spam q and e as often as you can until your ult is up again.
The main key is to just stay as far back as possible. all her spell ranges are really good, so just spam out your q and e and keep your team in front of you for w.

Thats actually false. Her upfront burst is equal to most casters.
Her ult is .75 ratio with 500 max base, 7 on q (260 base), and 6 on e (240 base).
Annie on the other hand, is 245 base .7 ratio on q, 280 .75 on w, and 450 .7 on tibbers.
So she loses .1 ap ratio and has slightly higher base damages than annie.
Her cooldowns are longer than annies, but her cc is at least equal, and her spell distances are MUCH better than annies. Lux can sit back and pewpew while annie is stuck having to go ahead and march forward to her death. Combined with the fact that you are likely to get a second ult off in a longer teamfight, Lux actually compares really well.

Thanks for all the replies and help! So, do you think it's ok to spend some IP on getting a champion I like and want to keep playing, or should I hold onto all my IP until I can buy the good runes at 30?
|
Depends on how competitive you want to be. Runes are necessary for any sort of tryhard play, either in normals or solo q, but given that you should never start solo q immediately upon hitting 30, Id say grab the champs you have fun with and play them until you have enough money for the runes.

Flash would still mean you end up dying a ton.
Long range does not compensate for being fragile as long as flash remains in the game and it is impossible to adapt a playstyle that deals with a possible sudden change in positioning.
Lux is insanely frail wich allready forces her to the bot lane because as an AP on mid her range means nothing against Brand or Orianna, both of wich have identical range but superior travel times on their spells.
On bot lane she simply can't fight properly since she has to make use of her passive to deal competitive damage and her auto-atack range is within range of too many champions. On top of this comes the fact that a gank will leave her dead very often.

I much prefer ranged characters, and I like having high damage output. They pointed me at Lux, Ezreal, and Brand. I've been playing Lux (she was free), and she's nice for the utility she brings, but she doesn't really seem to have a big damage ability. Maybe I'm just using her wrong? Or using the wrong build?
Are Ezreal and Brand worth buying, or should I wait until they're free to try them out? Or should I stick with Lux and get better?
i would stick to free chars or at least only buy the cheaper IP champs at the beginning. your tastes are going to change as you get better

Soulstealer/Sword of the Occult/Leviathan can work at low levels where a few stacks can change the entire game since people don't know how to stop it, but as you improve and get to higher levels of play, people know how to stop you from stacking.

Depends on the hero to be honest, even at high levels Soulstealer on Karthus for instance is absolutely brutal. Statikk and I favored (I think he still does?) SS on Kassadin sidelane. The list of such things goes on.

yeah if you can consistently get easy stacks then soulstealer is alright
SotO and leviathan are usually pretty bad still
|
when i first started playing i was roundly mocked for stacking drings into ss on cleanse kassadin... I still think that build is good tbh.

I still think that a high level team will key on you if you're trying to keep stacks - does anyone know what number of stacks that SS starts to be cost-efficient?

5 stacks almost even 6 ur profitting
