Quick tips:
1. Play at peak hours, you're likely to get better teammates 2. If you're losing a lot now, that means you're likely to go on a winning streak within the next few weeks because of how dumb MMR works.

Yeah, I've gone over to solely HL for the moment. I used to go QM when I wanted to play a specific hero but the compositions are SO random now that it can ruin the game from the very start. Which is odd given the fact now both teams get a warrior or/and a support or neither do.
The one thing I did notice a lot is how much you play against groups now. If you play with two or three you already run a significant risk of running into a 5 man group who will have a decent composition.

Maybe it's because my QM level is not good, but I don't really care if I lose or if the teams are unbalanced in QM. I play these either as a way to have fun with the game without caring about ranks (so I play Illidan a lot), or learn heroes until I can win roughly 75% of my games which qualifies this hero for HL (not counting trash games).
Back to the rage, saturday morning I play 4 HL games, in which I always played well, and lose all 4. One is lost in draft: cursed hollow, I first pick Murky, the second guy picks Nova without asking and goes for a crappy build. Insta loose. Then I play a very solid game on Dragon Shire with Nova but our Jaina dies 10 times. Our Uther (rank 1, paired with Jaina) spent 25 minutes babysitting her and dying for her. People can't understand they should not go KT or Jaina if they can't position well and stay safe.
Fortunately I got 6 wins in a row the evening (didn't play any better, just got somehow better teammates), but in almost every game you could see a KT or a Jaina who would position front, would never retreat, would sacrifice to help Murky or Leoric (escape available). I suck with Jaina and KT but at my rank (5-10) I'm better than most of them just by staying in the back and asking warriors to protect me.
Oh and I definitely give up solo queue warrior. People play assassins and specialists so badly it's not possible to let them do it.
edit: Morfildur, I agree with John at one point you'll have a ridiculous streak of victories (9 out of the 10 last games for me). Just try to keep a good mindset, which I didn't at some point which caused even more rank drops (from rank 2 to 10 in 2 weeks, and back at 6 today). Improve your mechanics, map awareness, drafting pool and more than everything adjust to your team's pace (the most important to me). If they're slow to move, be slow with them or be dead. ;-)

Been playing gazlowe all day. 20 matches or so. What a terrible hero.
Also, nova and zeratul should be buried and forgotten in the haunted mines.
|
whenever I am entering win streak mode, i play less serious talents and heroes. Helps to avoid stomps.
But it seems to be getting a real problem, as I seem to encounter more and more people that just throw their game when they are on a losing streak until they enter winstreak land again. Which just increases the problem they are caught in. And well they drag 9 people with them.

This is a game where you kinda have to expect shit to happen and long losing streaks to result. Just have faith that it will all balance out in the end.

team drafted sylv/valla/thrall(me)/azmo/raynor on infernal shrines vs a standard team, so FML. On the one hand, I was pretty riled up at the start of the game since azmo/raynor surprised us with the picks. On the other hand, I learned that Thrall's earthquake == an enemy teamwipe when you have thrall/valla/sylv/raynor all following up. Despite azmodan split pushiing every shrine, we won three of them in a row for a win 4v5.

I actually think that if you have a specialist which can push hard enough it might be beneficial to allow him to do so on infernal shrines - the first 3 punishers are at most claiming a fort and with your DPS, probably less. That said, playing QM compositions in HL sucks

Nova in the free hero rotation again.. *^&@#

WTF with people these days ? Got lots of morons in draft, people who won't talk, won't prepick...
Lost a game on Battlefield of Eternity because of draft. Me and my friend get Tyrande KT (and I hate playing him so bad), so really awesome heroes on this map picked for the team. The other guys get Sylvanas (useless on this map imo), Leoric and Artanis. While I love Leoric, 2 low tier warriors with no CC and no stun is stupid. One should go Diablo/ETC/Mura/Johanna. And Leoric disconnected a few minutes, and went Yolo Leo, which we all love and praise. And of course Sylvanas was the worst part of it, dying solo vs Zagara, bad split pushing, useless in fights (because of said warriors).
I've lost 2 games in my last 10 games so I can't complain, but these 2 games were lost in draft because of idiots.
|
It sounds like Sylv would be good in theory for split-pushing so isn't shit-by-default... but if she's getting shut down hard by Zagara, then that's an unfortunate counterpick. Leo isn't low tier imo though, but if their unit comp is more ranged and you have no stun, then that's tough stuff right there.

Sylvanas is quite decent on Battlefield of Eternity if you go for Barbed Shot. It helps clean up any camps/mercs very fast and the bonus damage applies to the Immortal. The composition wasn't good for her though since neither tank could really defend her, KT or Tyrande.
I always try to ensure we get atleast a few stuns in the composition (KT / Tyrande for example) but having Muradin, Johanna, ETC or Diablo is just so much better. Ofcourse, you know it's could be a sucky game if some first picks Nova or Murky.
Honestly, if you're THAT good with your Nova and Murky then go pick them, but they are NOT ever first pick material. First pick should not be OMG I CAN PLAY MY FAVORITE HERO. Play QM if you want that and leave HL to people who know how to pick.

I realize that by split pushing he softened the eventual lanes that punishers went down, but I am not convinced that azmodan contributed anything to this particular game. I'm really glad we were able to win teamfights 4v5 very convincingly---- which kind of suggests that azmodan could have been an abathur AI and still been just as effective.

DarkPlasmaBall: Yes, Leoric is nice (I love him) but his winrate is quite low these days, probably because he doesn't have peel/stun/CC (unless you get entomb which he didn't). We had KT Tyrande for stuns but these are not the easiest to land when your frontline falls into pieces. I think Artanis and Leoric need babysitting from a big fatass warrior, so neither could assist the other, neither could dive their backline, they were just auto attacking Johanna while Raynor Jaina and Zag would tear them to pieces (and they had Reghar to heal Jo back at 100%).
Thezzy: I didn't know Sylvanas had the bonus damage on the immortal (thanks for the information), but he went shadow dagger / envenom talents on the first 3 tiers. Died on every split push AND every fight AND all the time. (and I had to ask him to split every single time)
I would have gladly went for Murky but he picked before me (we were last). I never pick against the team unless they insult me on draft. These days I only go Nova on Dragon/Spiders/Pirate because of my high winrate, or if I pick last and both teams allow it (we have a balanced team already/they have a lot of squishies). I play a lot less Nova (20% of the time now or so) because I try to win during draft, not during the game, because most players I play with straight up suck and lose the game before level 13.
Am I the only one who thinks on battlefield Murky and Raynor are really broken? The objective creates very long fights, and since neither have sustain problems, be it health or mana, they are incredibly useful. I can't even understand how people don't first pick Raynor on every Battlefield game.
|
infernal shrines with medic and sylv *-* . Just need to somehow get the Archons. Why split push if you can take a keep. But atm whenever I see a specialist, I just hope they won't feed while they are split pushing and know what they are doing.
But I always feel bad when I have to write. "Let's trap them when they try to farm our split pusher again"
It's simple why you don't first pick Raynor on Battlefield. Because you pick Hammer first and attack the enemy Immortal, while defending yours.

For f**ks sake, Raynor, you just dived their Kael'Thas past their ETC and Kerrigan and died a horrible death, and then you ask "Why attack the tank?". After I said "Please play more careful", you kept diving their KT all match long, no matter whether you even had team mates with you. I know Rank 10 players are awful, but even they should know better than that...
I wonder if I'll drop down to Rank 11 today...
EDIT: Yep, Rank 11. End of day: 6 matches, 5 losses. I just have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I was rank 4 and now I'm on the highway to rank 40.

154 points to next rank 153 points for the game
Thanks, Obama Blizzard.

I was rank 18 then dropped to 35 Before the game decided it was done punishing me. Then came a win streak and I got to rank 10 before dropping to 18 where i started and thats where I am now :p
I have no idea how the matchmaking works but its stupid.

I'm getting tired of these games where Rank 1 players drag their non-rank Rank 1 players into hero league. I think I've lost like five in a row where my team had the one non-Rank 1 player and the other team was all Rank 1s.
