You know we all went through that. Except people who were already monsters playing other MOBAs or SC2. Noone said it was easy. There are lots of top players here complaining how bad it is to play with cows and how they lost because of others.
I think you need the right mindset when playing this game solo queue or with a friend. You need to know what you bring on the table and what you can get. Don't focus on your current rank too much, if you're good you'll climb. My mindset when playing HL is that I want to be better at the game. I want to do my best, and if possible I'd like to climb in rank. Yesterday me and my friend lost our 3 games, and 1 was especially frustrating because I played a nearly perfect game as Nova and my team made 2 or 3 stupid decisions that made us lose.
If I lose and I know damn right I played well, I just tell myself it's ok. The cows will keep losing ranks, and I'll keep climbing. I really believe that, and it works. I think I never ever ended a HL game with a negative kill death ratio. But if I did I'd watch the replay to analyze every single death and know what I did wrong. 95% of your deaths are mistakes, except if you're Murky. Maybe you can work on that.
These are my golden rules for playing HL to me: - only play heroes you master - don't try new strategies, don't experiment - try to counter the opponent picks. If you don't know how to, go read the HL 101 article on this forum: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/heroes/485714-hero-league-101 - on this same page try to read the "carry" section - try to adap to the map. I'm a lucky guy, my worst map just got removed from the current rotation. But don't count on it too much. Some heroes are monsters on specific maps. If I was even decent with Sylvanas I'd pick her every time I play on mines for example. - ping often, even if you find it obvious, like if you see heroes going to gank your Zagara. Everyone saw it on the map. You assume she saw too, it's so obvious. Well, don't assume and ping retreat and ping danger. You may just have saved her life - typing is losing. Always. Don't type. - it's not always the other player's faults - are you playing your role ? If you're the support you shall never be alone. If you're the warrior you shall never engage without your team and you shall always be on the frontline.

Some of these need some bending sometimes, but in general some solid advice i'd say. I numbered them for better overview
1. yes absolutely. Exception: A supp/ tank is needed and you haven't "mastered" one. 2. you may wanna adapt to the enemy even if it means somewhat new territory for you. 3. see 2. 4. Do it 5. Try this but don't force it. Example: You need a tank, but Tassadar is sooo good on this map... take a tank 6. Yes do it!! Ppl from a Starcraft background might have some incredible minimap awareness, but mostly ppl don't! 7. Almost always true, except when you are winning ^_^ 8. True 9. Meeh... dunno.. hard one. - BW is supp, still needs to soak alone to be most effective. - If your teammates are doing a easy camp with 4 ppl, you better soak some exp even with uther. - If you are the only Warrior and enemy team is dive heavy, you might wanna be in the backline to protect it (Illidan on your Jaina? Better Stun and Reverberate him

how can you have almost 3k games and facecheck opposite team as Tychus every single fight?
holy fucking shit it offends me how they don't even try

holy fucking shit it offends me how they don't even try Played with Illidan that constantly wanted to fight and chase the enemy while we were 3 levels behind, and was whining how we don't support him enough.
He had 570 games with The Lost Vikings and was rank 1, I lose because of shits like these all the time.

i fucking hate the matchmaking
hate hate hate
had the game won
then the valla comes back and replaces the bot immediately goes to solo bruisers at level 24
AND DIES HOLY SHIT
WAHTT THEEEE
he was 3 ranks above me too. It just feels so bad. If you don't get a draft where you can pick a hard carry, it feels like you lose every game because of some random shitbag instead of your own mistake. I think I'll just pick TLV every single game now and see how far it can take me.

did the valla vanish at the start without a word ? :x sounds like someone playing 2 accounts at the same time.

3 HL games yesterday, 2 with / vs Cho Gall... WTF people don't even know how to build him yet, there's no replay, no info.
2 Guy first picks Cho Gall. I yelled at them. I was so angry. Noone can claim to master them yet, and yet some stupid douche go and pick them in HL. And since it was a troll game I went for Nova (which I master but no lane presence meant the other 2 players would be solo in lane). We won because the Cho Gall was good compared to the noobs we were facing, and my friend and me played really well.
Second game, those guys are on the opposite team. Cho Gall picked. On cursed hollow... We had trouble adapting to them, my teammates not understanding that he's not a normal hero and it's normal he feels op when you try to 1v1 him as Tychus. We died a few times but were always ahead in exp. Lost first 3 tributes, lost every fights for maybe 6 to 8 minutes. Then we snowballed. The map was just too big for a beginner Cho Gall. I was so happy to kick their douchebag's asses.

good news: you can carry on most maps with just TLV which is my new go to strat bad news: if you get that one guy named weedblazorx420 who goes Illidan and ends up with 11 deaths (to my 2.75 on TLV) and half the hero damage of me split pushing half the game, you still can't win

srsly fuck this game, on a huge losing streak in hero league, have been trying to stay positive up until now, I really have, but my mmr apparently has taken a massive dump as I constantly get paired with total morons who don't even try to communicate and cooperate... I'd better start playing legacy multiplayer, team games give me a headache.

Repent all ye sinners! Repent, and, like me, you shall find salvation in green jesus, who will carry you to the promised land!
(Seriously, after a few weeks of misery and dropping out of rank 1, I started playing Thrall exclusively post-patch and promptly went back to R1 with a 9-1 record.)

I am still using Zagara ... still giving vision to everyone and they don't dare to fuck up while the whole team can see it coming a mile away. Issue is I am so used to the vision that I get caught off guard to much with no escape heroes.
|
Just got into a game on Infernal Shrines with a Cho'gall, a Nova and a Zeratul (I was Rehgar). The two cloaked assassins get upset about someone having to soak experience. Cho'gall, on the other hand, does nothing but sit in lane, ignoring all objectives or even defending against the Punishers.

Sometimes I just cannot handle matchmaking and it puts me in such a bad mood before the game has even begun because I get convinced winning is possible. Only QM, so I can only complain so much, but according to Hotslogs I'm around 3k MMR in QM (whatever that means) and most of my QM games are full of mostly rank 1 HLs. Then I roll a game on Dragon Shire, my worst map, where I have 3 teammates who have a collective player level of under 40, against multiple single digit HL players with thousands of games experience.
It just doesn't make sense why I would be put with people who have played only a dozen games in their Heroes career, and proceed to get slaughtered and look bad as a result.

guy on Abathur who managed to die twice by simply walking out from behind the walls into laning heroes :DDDDDDDDDDDDD
and had less exp soaked than I on Zagara and our Leoric
fucking hell
I really hope I get 2 unranked players in my team again so I can be proven how much of a complete fuckwit you can be and still feel confident enough to solo Q hero league

no really fuck chogall. I'm 100% serious. there's no way to beat him if you're not in a fucking 5 man team. fuck cho'gall, fuck his implications and fuck this fucking game

what's so hard in implementing a personal ban list to a fucking game, like "NO FUCKING CHO'GALL" or something? fuck it

I've seen Leoric do work on him, I recommend only queuing as Leoric or Raynor for eternity. :D

If the team is playing him well it can be hell. But seriously if you and your team play well you wreck him. You can either: - go specialists/pushers heavy and push all 3 lanes, with Zagara giving vision to avoid ganks, Tassadar being a solid choice too (vision, waveclear, great escape and can support). Murky's great as you don't care if he dies 1v1 vs ChoGall. - go tank melter with ranged heroes and kite. Cho Gall's team will have trouble following him and staying coordinated. I really don't like this option as Reghar, Karhazim and Uther can save him from death. - go dive heavy and kill the other guys in the team, alone he won't last. - abuse some heroics like anub's cocoon, Zag's maw... and then use the short window to 5v3 wreck them

There are heroes that soft-counter him, forcing him to back off or to be more careful but all these comments like "this hero beats Cho'Gall 1v1" are big exaggerations or just anecdotal examples as Cho'Gall was new and a lot of players didn't know how to play him, resulting in them dying to some solo heroes or overextending recklessly.
Butcher can't beat him(unless Cho'Gall tries to manfight him, in which scenario every hero except for Muradin loses to Butcher...), Sonya certainly can't and contrary to the popular belief Leoric can't do a jack shit against him 1v1. What Leoric can do is trap him with Entomb in team fights so your whole team can focus him down, or just zone him out with Drain Hope and force his Dash to be used defensively. Even in the late game with Spectral Leech, Cho'Gall will easily out-damage your healing and damage to him.
