edit: the bloodmage has mana drain in warcraft3 but they will probably make Kael'Thas with a mix of his warcraft3 and wow skills and let manadrain go.

Also, I ranked everybody based on actual combat ability. Obviously Raynor is more powerful than Tychus if you count his leadership skills, just as Tassadar goes above Zeratul, and Thrall goes above Jaina (holds onto power after story's end, keeps his guys in line). Similarly, Abathur could conceivably go up based on non-combat skills (HotS campaign is a lot harder (but still easy) if you play without his help.) Maybe I should make another ranking accounting for leadership/politicalpower/techskills? + Show Spoiler + Yay more lists!

Being 40/30 wont guarantee you are good, and since it will have a different MMR we will all start from the same point. That means that guy which got to 30 and had 2 heroes and bought 8 with real money will be playing in the same team as Idra and Cloud 9. We well be caught somewhere in between, so it will be basically luck based, at least at the start.

It will be interesting to see what the ranked population is like at the outset. I suspect that it will be pretty bad. The only silver lining is that, all things being equal, there will be as many retards on the enemy team as there are on your team on average. My strategy will be to whore the hell out of Zeratul or, if he's been picked, grab Tassadar as the counterpick to crush all the really bad Nova/Zeratul players that will be out there. Tank is the way to go (why I started playing Chen). Then you have solo kill potential on most heroes if they're out of position, but still able to initiate good fights for your team. With Zeratul you go in to double bomb and the idiots on your team engage and cause you to lose the game.

I've climbed ~800 MMR to where I am now predominantly solo-queuing with Zeratul. It is really easy to roll bad players with him and snowball a game. Besides, you can do a little bit of everything with Zeratul (push lanes, ninja objectives/mercs, etc). Hard to go wrong with him if played correctly.

Thrall is a possibility if he is as strong as he seems to be. I could use another ace front line fighter.

Hard to go wrong with him if played correctly. This sounds about right. I've played now 107 games and 37 of them as zeratul, with about 75% winrate. About half of it is solo queue. He's pretty much the only hero that feels really interesting to me from a dota perspective, because he can outplay in the same was as you could with force staffs/blinks. You can make some really interesting plays with the hero compared to boring stuff like ETC, which feels so clunky and annoying to play. Next up I want to learn Abathur, because he seems incredibly strong when people know how to use him, but grinding 6k gold when I dont bother to level up heroes is going to take forever. I still can't believe in this day and age there's stuff like buying heroes and the incredibly stupid talent gating, but I guess I'm just really spoiled after playing dota for so many years. It's almost as annoying as friends not having a key yet.

I think I need to get one of Uther/Brightwing (maybe both because they're so good) to have a grade A healer. Beyond them, however, I'm not sure whom I really need. Thoughts? Thrall is a possibility if he is as strong as he seems to be. I could use another ace front line fighter. There is a disturbing lack of Tychus in this list, the most blatantly overpowered hero in the game.

I was the best Paladin on my awful WoW server a long time ago, so it's a fitting hero for me anyway.
