Name seems similar enough to LP but romanized differently, not sure but I'm going to guess yes given the rest of the cast.

Jumping the gun on a team, I think. Hearthstone doesn't even have observer mode yet and the only way streaming tournaments works for that is because the playing field is static. I don't see how a hots tourney could work without obs and its possible that feature won't even be added, no?

The thing with Blizzard games is that they have a guaranteed tournament at least once a year at Blizzcon.

This is true but it would be hard to make a career out of one match a year; especially when the prize pool is likely going to be extremely low compared to other once a year tournaments like The Invitational.

Just thinking out loud, though.

There's no way there won't be an obs mode for HotS. I think the reason why HS doesn't have obs mode already out is because it was developed by a small team, unlike HotS which is a big project. Last tmie I checked the game is based on the SC2 engine, which means adding obs mode certainly won't be difficult.

Since it's based on the SC2 engine I guess the only hard thing to add would be chat channels!

I think it's a bit early too but they're hardly the first team announced, Curse, Empire and My Insanity have them too just off the top of my head (and they have established organizations backing them). If they're having fun and want to make it official more power to them, though I think the chance of them getting a sponsor and actually making any money is insanely low for the next 6-12 months.

I think pro players taking the game a bit more seriously is fine. It helps speed up the meta a bit and we see new, interesting stuff. But that observer mode is super necessary first.

Do they even have observer in Hearthstone yet?

I am more concerned about the viewership more than anything else.
It is hard to believe blizzard actually put up a game with all the popular characters in the franchise and not really doing all that well. (even if it is closed beta)

Twitch viewer numbers are so low, I am wondering if the first person view for this game is just too slow/boring to watch and that a release for obs client would boost up the viewership.

what's the magic that is missing from this game?

Too early to make conclusions about viewer numbers, there is 0 excitement about this game because Blizzard screwed up the release. They hyped it up then did nothing and kept it in closed alpha with very few keys going out, and no one is going to check out a moba (sorry "hero brawler") stream without having played it outside a few minutes for curiosity. It's backwards from what HS did.

anyway like ESL One, Heroes had a trailer leak this morning that shows new heroes and some battleground stuff or something I don't know I didn't watch the whole thing.

There's no depth to the game, so watching it gets boring pretty fast. More importantly, there's no way for an individual to standout. In games like DOTA you have teams, but you also have players. A lot of times a single player is more popular than the team itself but that's not possible in HoTS because there's no way to distinguish yourself during a match.

The only way to fix this would be to add items, personal experience, or something similar in nature. People like to see a carry solo the other team, or a player go a unique new item build, or just simply outplay their lane opponent. None of these things can happen in HoTS.

I understand your point in general about carrying but it is definitely possible for one person to stand out. They still count KDA and it is very possible to outplay your lane opponent. Many games I've played the best (and worst) players clearly stand out.

Like others said I think the low viewership now is because so few people have been able to play it for such a long time. If everyone could play it for free a lot more people would be watching it. Hopefully the hype is not completely killed in the general population as much as it is among teamliquid people.

honestly viewership in a game has so many facets that trying to figure it out logically is only going to result in half-truths at best, there's no way to accurately predict any of that, its a huge circlejerk where people retrofit theories but never works for future scenes. you can, at best, say why you personally would or would not watch it.

in 2010/2011 everyone in the industry kept repeating how league/dota could never be big because they're too hard to watch and wow look at us now. every industry expert also thought cs could never be big again because it's too hard to tell what's happening and gosh look at that circuit. maybe it will have a viewership maybe no one will watch it who knows.

Yes but it's hard to deny that if nobody can play a game they won't watch it for terribly long.

I can confirm I don’t watch games I don’t play. The fact that everyone can’t play heroes can’t be helping.

But in the end, who cares. I am pretty over the whole “the game needs to be an Esport” thing. As long as I am entertained on my PC when I am playing it, everything else is just gravy. People are to obsessed with being arm chair TV producers and claiming a game is a failure because we don’t want to watch someone else play it on the internet.

Well F2P games function by getting a player invested enough into them to invest cash. A big part of that investment these days is engaging people OUTSIDE the game through twitch etc. I'll admit we are getting into personal opinion land again.
