Will Smith is probably my favourite actor. I have a lot of respect for him as both a person and an actor. He performs so many roles well. Hancock looks hilarious too, so I'll be seeing it for sure.

I was a little skeptical since this isn't really the kind of movies I see Will Smith would star in.. but it's Will Smith and he's a great actor.

haha, looks amazing. havent seen i am legend yet, but his other films were pretty good. i used to be into his music 'back in the day'. seeing as hes pretty drunk/chilled in this i doubt we'll be hearing "OWH HELL NO!".

ps. is it just me or does every trailer these days have at least one song from guitar hero?

I saw this yesterday night. The movie was great at first. Nice jokes, interesting plot, and it flowed well. But when the back story was explained, it seems like the writers got lazy. The story and the plot was unraveled and explained in a mere 5 minutes, and the movie ended way too quickly. After he discovered what he really was, then the movie went completely downhill, and it didn't flow. It moved way too fast, and by the end, it was mediocre.

If anyone is wondering:
I'm in Taiwan right now, so +12 hours =P.

I just got back from seeing it. Much of what Deathtray says it quite accurate. I however would still strongly recommend this movie for anyone looking to watch a simply entertaining movie.

This movie is worth watching simply because of it's style. As Deathtray said the back-story and everything does seem like the writers simply got lazy or something. Because it is great up until then.

Worth watching -- I'd give it a 7/10 simply for the first hour.

The first time I heard "I Don't Wanna Be (A Superhero)" played during Proleague, it reminded me of this movie.

If that song is in this movie, I would be even more ecstatic <3

Eh, I saw this movie before it came out. It's decent, nothing spectacular. The plot is completely cheesy and full of holes, the special effects are alright. If the movie had any redeeming quality it would be Will Smith. He can pull off any character at all.

If you watch the trailers, it gives hints about him becoming less powerful or some shit. Some woman said "Hancock is down and he looks hurt!" in one of the trailers.

I don't know, from the trailer it looks like one of those action movies that end up with toooo much drama and too little action? Like the spidermans (which they all sucked big balls imo).

Is this correct?

edit: 35/100 rating "Though it begins with promise, Hancock suffers from a flimsy narrative and poor execution." from rottentomatoes.com

k now there is something I am not gonna watch ^^

ok. This is the movie:

+ Show Spoiler +
Hancock is an alcoholic superhero because he doesn't remember anything from his past.... well atleast the last 80 years. He was hit on the head and doesn't remember anything. + Show Spoiler +
This is because he isn't the only one... There is another like him and when they're around each other they nullify each other's powers.
He was beaten while he was weak. Lost his memory. When he woke up in the hospital, his friend was nowhere, so he was invulnerable again. (they asked for his John Hancock, he didn't know his name, so he used that name)

+ Show Spoiler +

So in short: He fights himself, because the public hates him for being a ridiculous drunken superhero and then he meets the other super hero, and becomes weak, and has to fight some thugs

Totally worth watching though, because the humor and style of the character is very entertaining. Just don't expect any substance.

it was good.. i dont know why people are complaining..
unless they are like MAJOR movie reviewers who look for the finest details like in no country for old men.

the writer who made the story originally is really smart. the film wasn't that long and to fit hancock's actual past and everything into the film would have made it too long and people would have complained about that probably.

the main point of the film was comedy and so the screen play writers and stuff wrote the hancock story in a comedy way. cutting out the dramatics and the heavy storyline to provide humour.

i REALLY think that if hancock was made in a more serious way with a sequel or two or even a television series, you would all be amazed out how great the hancock story really is.

+ Show Spoiler +
he forgot his past and lives like a bum doing heroic acts in the dumbest ways possible that harm the people of the city he is helping. he seems to have no purpose in his life and then he finds out about his past and why he is the way he is. he can't have love if he wants to finally serve a purpose in his life. its a choice he has to make... like cmon.

you guys gotta admit, if it were longer and more detailed, it can be really awesome

I was disappointed and I didn't even have very high expectations. It was entertaining at parts, but the RottenTomatoes critique was pretty spot on (""Though it begins with promise, Hancock suffers from a flimsy narrative and poor execution.").

It seems like the movie got cut more than it should and left out some key parts that would've made the story more believable and not so abrupt. I felt like what I think people who have never read the Harry Potter books would feel from watching the movies, that so much seems to "come out of nowhere" because it isn't sufficiently explained or built up. I didn't feel any sort of connection to any of the characters or their relationships really because of how little they were built up as well. The movie didn't seem to flow that well, which again makes me feel like there was some bad editing done or something. The movie felt rushed in the second half, and very half-ass.

In the end, it's an okay movie, but one that I wish I would've watched on DVD.

Huge disappointment ..
no story and when there is story its full of errors
no plot and no message

so this is like 5 or 6 jokes mixed in 2 hours of nothing. This should have been a 20 minute shortfilm and I would have loved it. You know and saw everything ... after you saw the trailer.
Someday, you’re going to fuck up so magnificently, so ambitiously, so overwhelmingly that the sky will light up and the moons will spin and the gods themselves will shit comets with glee. And I just hope I’m still around to see it.

the second half did feel really rushed but it was still better than wanted which my friends made me watched ealier.

it could have been much better because there are some elements of Hancock that could translate into a good movie/story.

Wanted... ugh...
the action scenes were fine but they had to fit some kind of dumb story to it.

this movie is one those cases where a director should say fuck to the backstory and make it all about style.

Especially since this is clearly a prequel to the upcoming Thor movie. I think Hancock is going to end up "passing the torch" to a Mjolnir-dependent mortal, though. (I have a suspicion that he is going to become Mjolnir somehow)

i wasn't expecting much going into it so i think i was pleasantly surprised with the humor and action sequences. will smith can really carry a movie on his own.

and like people said, the first 2/3 to 3/4 of the movie was good, but after that it went downhill lol.

still, it was entertaining to watch and i don't regret watching it. however, it's not the kind of movie that i would watch again on my own.

People are right about their complaints, but at least the character wasn't cliche, the conflict in the first 1/2 of the movie was very believable and sympathetic, and the dialogue was sharp. Wall-E on the other hand...

WALL-E was probably the best movie to come out this year.

Hancock, for me, was disappointing. All through the movie I was wondering whether or not the movie was worth the money for me. I thought the plot was a decent idea, but was so contrivingly executed that it just fell apart for me. And in the paraphrased words of some newspaper I'm too lazy to remember/look up, not even Will Smith's charisma could save the mess that was Hancock.

You've made your point on the Wall-E matter, no need to bring it up again in this thread. Now you're just getting petty and troll-like. Grow up.

God i was so disappointed with this movie. The premise is amazing - a hobo who is a super hero LOL! But the writing, the direction and the execution reminded me of a glorified teen Disney movie i'd watch sunday afternoon after waking to an intense hangover.

After this i went and saw Wanted which was soooo much better.

Grow up? You're the one getting troll like trying to come at me over a 5 word line. That's why I left it at that with zero specifics. Relax. And learn what maturity means before you try insulting other people about it.

Especially since this is clearly a prequel to the upcoming Thor movie. I think Hancock is going to end up "passing the torch" to a Mjolnir-dependent mortal, though. (I have a suspicion that he is going to become Mjolnir somehow)

I dunno if I'm being Romanian with this (probably), but is there any basis for this spoiler? It'd be quite the stretch but would definitely be amusing. But Hancock has no connection with Marvel right?

I think they deliberately hid the connection to ease people into it, because Thor is going to be a hard sell, despite being an indispensible original member of the Avengers. But there was a tell in the sneak clip (just after the credits), when a guy compares Hancock in his new costume to Wolverine (of the X-Men).

I think it's a bit of a stretch myself. As far as I know there is connection between Hancock and Marvel. I really don't think that this movie is "clearly a prequel" to any movie, and, at best, has only a very tenuous connection to Thor. A nice theory, but I think based more on hope than actual evidence.

lol that's pretty much the opposite of what I thought about the movies; Wanted seemed brainless and poorly done while the only thing that bothered me about Hancock was over-use of an unsteady camera.

Just saw the movie, It was pretty good between a 7 or 8 out of 10.

+ Show Spoiler +
Before that fight between both of them, the one with the 3 cyclones on the street, did anyone notice a robot or something taller and not human shaped running between the cars, the camera was on it for like 2 seconds a long with other extras as they ran away.

I just watched it like fifteen minutes ago. I thought it was pretty decent for the first third, but as the movie progressed, it all just fell apart.
Super serious.

Okay the part where white guy try to teach him manners is pretty awesome and hilarious, but once he becomes a righteous hero he becomes lame and the plot just flops dead.
The whole gods shits irks me so.

I hate plot holes. They shouldn't have given some half-assed explanation for his powers, they should have given a good one or none at all. "We're the gods' insurance policy." What the fuck? Yeah, they sure prevented the world from degenerating.
