We have to finally start seriously pushing EVs, solar, wind power, and other renewables so that we can stop depending on fossil fuels. That being said, there is no excuse for not delivering this punch now. I think its time to sanction all of the fossil fuels coming out of Russia and cut off the supply of oil money.
The whole problem is with limiting domestic production. If Germany didn't limit nuclear, it wouldn't be in the position it is right now.
I doubt a no fly zone means nukes. Kwark is right in that sense imo. The real problem with a no fly zone is that you're escalating the conflict which can spiral out of control. Then we might see nukes.

Don't worry, the coal will save us and keep powering the emerging electric cars. :/ But for what it's worth nuclear is on the table again, even with the green party participating in government. Problem is, how long does it take for Germany to build a new NPP? We need to talk about reactivating, or this is gonna take decades. I'm aware that Uranium isn't free and have the opinion, that the true costs of nuclear power are distorted. It's still pretty appealing considering the alternatives.
Macon kickstaring nuclear power might mean that Germany can get a reactor or two started in the decade with their supplies. I assume the eu works on a joint powergrid so even if Germany wants to go with coal and gas over nuclear they're still going to be factoring in nuclear into their plans going forward.

LIVE UPDATES The Russian President says sanctions introduced on his country are equal to a 'declaration of war' as Moscow issues no-fly zone warning
Yea the sanctions weren't a big deal when he thought they were going to be finished with Ukraine in a couple of days and that Germany would never participate.
Now he's realizing that the sanctions are going to be a HUGE problem, because Ukraine is not going to just roll over and let the Russians through. He's looking at a long and grueling quagmire as a worst case scenario and with the sanctions being intensified by almost the entire world there's no way he can afford that and he knows it.
So he's doing what Putin does. He's doubling down on the aggression because what else is he supposed to do? Relent? He can't do that because then his entire image of being this strong unbeatable nationalist gets thrown on its ass.

Electricity doesn’t compete with gas for heating. Different markets.
I was seven when the US invaded Iraq and don't remember much of what happened then. Is the reaction we're seeing today to remove everything Russian similar to what happened then?

Good news? That just means there was more fighting around it, and will be again when Russia tries to retake it. And every battle has the chance of dealing more damage to it.

On a 10 year horizon they do. If gas was used for heating here it would be in remote heating of water or burning it up for electricity. You can switch to electric heating, either per building or per area.

There were some demonstrations here at least.
But the USA is our (EUs) close political partner while Russia has been our geopolitical enemy for the last 80 years give or take, so naturally media reporting as well as political sanctions are gonna be way more drastic. To boot Iraq is quite a bit away, while Ukraine is on our doorstep.

Also it was a dictatorship ran by a guy who gassed his own people and a whole bunch of other horrible human rights offenses, tried to take over other countries and so on. Iraq and Ukraine should not be compared for like 10000 reasons.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin stated that if Ukraine "continues to behave like this," it will "endanger the future of its statehood."
"the current government in Kyiv has to realise that if they continue to behave like this, they will endanger the future of Ukraine’s statehood. And if this happens it will be entirely their responsibility."
LOL. "Stop resisting my attempt to conquer your country or I will conquer your country!"
This dude is backed into such a corner he doesn't even make sense anymore. What does this threat even mean? That after he's finished conquering them he's not going to let them become a state? They don't want to be annexed or conquered at all you buffoon! That's why they're resisting you and welcoming foreign aid to do so.

Yep, typical macho talk from Putin. I like how some UK general has called him 'cornered rat'. You should all watch Navalny's video (EN subtitles are available), it's really insightful of how mad this person is.

10 years is both too late for energy dependency as well as the climate.
