Oooh, how embarrassing for me to not have noticed that. In my defense, I thought that surely with this thread having like 70 pages there had to have been some discussion on the documentary, but I haven't read anything other than the last few pages though.
Only the first 3rd of the thread is about the OP at all.
After that, it derails into a very wide array of issues relating to women and feminism.

Their explanation is better than I would come up with: + Show Spoiler +
As for it's relation to the quote, it was just that one doesn't have to 'assume' Twitch viewership is by and large male. It's not a precise measurement, but I think it is clear enough that it's a fair to at least move to 'presume' and considering the anecdotal evidence in addition, it's probably fair to say we 'know' twitch viewership is primarily male.
The same could be same about TL, as the stats are basically the same (TL actually attracts less females than twitch according to quantcast)

Okay thanks. My main question was if those figures pertained to viewers or streamers, which you've answered.
I get what you were replying to now too, didn't read the first post well enough.

Well, that's because a logical series of events will take place.
- CannonRush69 will write "I think it's terrible how women are treated in games. It's just terrible."
- EconomixGaming will then respond with "I think harassment is a problem in general."
- OceanSurf will agree with this premise saying, "Yeah I get called a faggot or have people asking if I have autism because of my voice."
- CannonRush69 will get SUPER-pissed, not just regular pissed, because someone called his DotA2 girl teammate a 'whore' once just because she was a gurl gamer who picked the character with the least clothes and bought the pink/purple skin and uses the screen name CutiePieGirl, which basically screams 'I'm a girl! Notice me!'. This usually leads to an absurd amount of compliments. However, since male gamers regularly buy in-game items for CutiePieGirl, some men begin to suspect she might be a guy scamming, so they want some photographic evidence. CutiePieGirl obliges, and they are immediately awestruck by her beauty/cosplay and shower her with compliments and apologize for ever doubting her. One very angry guy though, who just wants to watch the world burn, calls her some very bad names. This upsets CutiePieGirl, and she threatens to quit DotA2 forever. CannonRush69 comforts her and is angered eternally by the angry guy, who, not relevant to the story, owns an iguana.
- CannonRush69 then posts "I can't believe you selfish guys are trying to make this about you. Women get harassed all the time and it's disgusting."
- Nevermind that OceanSurf suffers from depression and tried to OD on sleeping pills after weeks of being called a 'faggot' by his guild mates in Mabinogi. He has a penis, so fuck him.
- PandaDragonMan walks in on the conversation and says "Hey, can't we agree that harassment, in general is wrong? Whether it happens to blacks, gays, women, etc.?"
- CannonRush69 refuses to concede to this point and says "I love it when white men make this argument" despite the fact that CannonRush69 is paler than a glass of skim milk. He then links an article to something written by some god-awful website like Gawker, entitled "White Men Need To Realize Women Are More Oppressed Than They Are And Shut The Fuck Up" by Amanda McKentuckyFriedChicken, who recently joked about skinning men with a potato peeler, and yet somehow still gets guess appearances on MSNBC because of reasons.
- AdHomosapien gets in on this discussion, and says that Ms. McKentuckyFriedChicken's article is skewed because she is a feminist.
- The user ProtossIMBA, who is notoriously bi-polar, comes out of left field and goes "Fuck these idiot bitches like Amanda McKentuckyFriedChicken" and that user is banned for that post. But the damage is done.
- CannonRush69 uses this as proof that all males on the internet are assholes (except for himself, since he is defending women's rights in the absence of females) and says "See? This is why we need feminism, because we need to treat both sexes equally."
- AdHomosapien will object to this reasoning, stating that gender equality and feminism are not the same.
- CannonRush69 will then proceed to link wikipedia's various articles on logical fallacies.
- A mod will come in and say "This discussion is getting way off-topic. Keep it civil, please."
- The conversation remains a spirited debate with little animosity involved, however, the thread will be closed anyway because there was "too much drama", because apparently a few intelligent guys having a discussion is drama, and that makes [pick your favorite mod here] upset.
- Anyhow, TinaTerran comes out of nowhere making remarks about the stuff being said, which are largely ignored until someone goes "You've provided no information to back up your claims" and then she writes them an essay.
- cHaOs_eMeraLd ignores all the facts in the essay and says it is simply cherry-picking, despite having very little knowledge of the topic.
- Some people discuss the validity of feminism, and other people accuse them of being bigots who hate equality.
Build Order:
9/9 - Discuss video of women being harassed 9/9 - Discuss whether or not harassment is universal 11/18 - Discuss whether or not men's harassment isn't as bad as women's harassment 13/18 - Link feminist argument (Or 14/18, which I prefer, and it doesn't really affect your feminism debate timing much) 16/18 - People disagree with author in link 100 gas - They are close-minded white guys, amirite? 24/27 - Men tell other men that they should be feminists because women are oppressed second 100 gas - Woman tells feminist men that they are wrong 30/35 - Feminist men demand answers 33/35 - Woman provides answers 37/43 - The answers are not good enough, because that's, like, just your opinion 50/51 - Cut drone production + ask why this thread is off-topic fourth base finishes - Tell people to get back on topic about women being harassed 64/67 - People ask again if harassment is not confined to women fourth gas finishes - Place feminist link that once again shows women are harassed worse than men 88/91 - Lurker Aspect 100+ - People debate feminism again, you wonder how topic got off-track again at 150 food - begin push to have thread closed

I think that was supposed to be:
- Anyhow, TinaTerran comes out of nowhere making remarks about the stuff being said, remarks which are addressed and debunked, and then she writes an essay which does not support her point in any way.
- cHaOs_eMeraLd points out this fact to her.
- TinaTerran decides to bm and ragequit, and gets a mod warning for flipping her table.
- Deadpool begins filming.
Anyway, although the thread was derailed quite a bit, there were quite a lot of insightful and well-argued posts that were on topic, including for example posts by Stratos_speAr explaining that harassment targeting specific groups (including women) is not exactly the same as generic harassment not targeting the victim's actual identity. If some posters don't want to take that into account and think about it it's their choice, but there was still some valuable input.
edit for below: yours is actually the 1997 version, mine the 1977 original. Han shot first.
edit: watch this thread get derailed even further by ninazerg who's clearly upset her essay got shot down for not supporting her false claim that feminism isn't about equality.

Yo what about the parts where some people were like "this documentary is nothing but a cash grab by people who want to get a paycheck by painting the gaming community in a bad light and ignoring the plight of men" and other people were like "I dunno that line of thought might be hard to substantiate and may contradict the content of the video itself" and all that
You know what, I begin to feel like with this whole summarizing business there's always something that gets left out. It's as if it's a microcosm of a larger problem... Fascinating.

All iguanas are self-hating internalized misogynists spreading toxic ideas about masculinity. In short, the more you think you can't be affected by iguanas, the more you will be.
They are even more dangerous than leopards, and I suspect they were genetically engineered by Garena.

Little known fact: Greedo was actually female and Han Solo only shot her because she refused to have sex with him. Same with Jabba The Hutt, he pulls the dancer alien girl close to him to molest her, and when she resists, he opens the doors to the rancor pit. Star Wars should be banned and all original copies burned for its toxic content.

Also, has anyone here actually watched the documentary? (I haven't, but wondering if I should) Sadly no, its still in kickstarter pre-release. I will be nice to see it. And your right that Sommers is making a very good living as an "anti-feminist". JP did a good show yesterday with a bunch of lady gamers with them talking about the issues they face. I don't know if its up on his youtube yet, but I caught part of it and it was good. To be clear, its not a debate(apparently some people wanted it) its a discussion between women and their shared experience. Apparently one of their shared experiences was men talking over them about women's issues, which is oddly fitting. I can't find the link at work, but it would be cool if someone linked it.
Build Order: 9/9 - Discuss video of women being harassed 9/9 - Discuss whether or not harassment is universal 11/18 - Discuss whether or not men's harassment isn't as bad as women's harassment 13/18 - Link feminist argument (Or 14/18, which I prefer, and it doesn't really affect your feminism debate timing much) 16/18 - People disagree with author in link 100 gas - They are close-minded white guys, amirite? 24/27 - Men tell other men that they should be feminists because women are oppressed second 100 gas - Woman tells feminist men that they are wrong 30/35 - Feminist men demand answers 33/35 - Woman provides answers 37/43 - The answers are not good enough, because that's, like, just your opinion 50/51 - Cut drone production + ask why this thread is off-topic fourth base finishes - Tell people to get back on topic about women being harassed 64/67 - People ask again if harassment is not confined to women fourth gas finishes - Place feminist link that once again shows women are harassed worse than men 88/91 - Lurker Aspect 100+ - People debate feminism again, you wonder how topic got off-track again at 150 food - begin push to have thread closed what kind of build stays on 3 hatch up to 91 supply nina, that's totally illogical.. pls get it together If you get Lurker Aspect at exactly 91, you will doing 8 hatch hydra (even though you get den with 6 hatcheries, don't question it) correctly like the greatest villain in StarCraft history, like even greater than Mengsk.
8 hatch before lurker...

Locking this because it got derailed pretty nicely and the "discussion" hasn't been very good to begin with.
