In the UK we have a very different relationship to myths and stories than you guys. Americans love a rags to riches story, a revenge story, and against all odds story etc. In England we like a guy who's a fucking loser but manages to make it to the top anyway because no-one cares.
Kind of like Nigel Farage? He resigned, but came back to fuck up the UK in this referendum.

From the BBC:
SNP to ask for official Opposition status
Norman Smith Assistant political editor:
A bit more on the news we mentioned earlier that the Scottish National Party will today ask to be declared the official Oppositon at Westminster.
They say their leader Angus Robertson enjoys more support than Jeremy Corbyn.
There are 56 SNP MPs - but only 40 Labour MPs have expressed support for Mr Corbyn.
They also say they are able to fill all the relevant shadow posts to the government, unlike Mr Corbyn.
They point to Parliamentary rules which say the official Opposition must be "prepared to assume power."
A source said: "We have looked at Erskine May (the Parliamentary rule book) and will put it to the Speaker that the Labour Party no longer meet obligations to remain as the official Opposition."

That's awesome. There might be a political party left in this country after all.

it would also be hilarious if for some weird reasons a scottish national party rules britain at some point.

They could do it in a coalition but they would never have the numbers to do it on their own, they bassically have every MP in Scotland at the moment and thats 275 short of a majority in the commons.

They're the only party to talk even slightest bit of sense or act with the slightest bit of self respect since the referendum.

Bernie Sanders opinion piece on Brexit - NYTimes
By BERNIE SANDERS JUNE 28, 2016
Surprise, surprise. Workers in Britain, many of whom have seen a decline in their standard of living while the very rich in their country have become much richer, have turned their backs on the European Union and a globalized economy that is failing them and their children.
And it’s not just the British who are suffering. That increasingly globalized economy, established and maintained by the world’s economic elite, is failing people everywhere. Incredibly, the wealthiest 62 people on this planet own as much wealth as the bottom half of the world’s population — around 3.6 billion people. The top 1 percent now owns more wealth than the whole of the bottom 99 percent. The very, very rich enjoy unimaginable luxury while billions of people endure abject poverty, unemployment, and inadequate health care, education, housing and drinking water.
Let’s be clear. The global economy is not working for the majority of people in our country and the world. This is an economic model developed by the economic elite to benefit the economic elite. We need real change.

The common worker.
Sounds like a bad plan.

And what's the most likely response? The rich guys saying "Damn, the working class voted us out of the EU because they are angry with us, we should appease them" Or the rich guys saying "Damn, the working class voted us out of the EU because they are angry with us, we should punish them"
It does sound like a terrible plan.

Its important to differentiate between the leave voters and the actual racists here. Of course, it would help if the leave voters differentiated themselves from the racists by standing up and telling them in the loudest possible voice that we won't let our country descend into right wing chaos just because we have left the EU.
|
These attacks are disgusting, they where racist before the Brexit vote but somehow these idiots seem to think they are allowed to come out and show it now.

He absolutely has to call it a day. Have another socialist stand. Have someone who can run the party stand. I would vote for Watson any day of the week. The guy is smart, capable, principled and in control.

It is a pretty appaling interview, but I think it clearly demonstrates that their campaign hasn't conveyed clearly what their stances were all about. I just can't predict/speculate on how the UK will fair after having had such a profound cooperation with other nations. How does deregulated look like on a concrete level? How do you keep being part of a single market, globalised economy, when you've sent clear messages you want to be a lone wolf? Why do you want to keep being best friends with someone after you've said fuck off right to their face? How do these things all translate to positives, with positive relations with everyone around you, when you're basically saying: this is all mine, I don't want to share (but I actually do, but not really)?
Edit: back on the interview.. he's like: "Well, I've written this book you see..". Who reads a political socio-economic book argumenting why the UK should leave the EU? Who wants to spend time on that, when you've just worked 8+ hours, your back hurts and there's some chill television on? People will latch on to what campaigns tell them at face value and what they see from the (social) media. They won't go into in depth research unless they're extremely intrigued by what's going on, and sadly, this is never the case for a majority of people concerning politics. They just want to get on with their lives and have it better than it was before when it wasn't good and have it stay the same if it was already going well.
