Jean-Claude Juncker said he wanted to begin negotiating Britain’s departure from the European Union, and there was no reason to wait until October, when British Prime Minister David Cameron has said he will resign.

“Britons decided yesterday that they want to leave the European Union, so it doesn’t make any sense to wait until October to try to negotiate the terms of their departure,” Juncker said in an interview with Germany’s ARD television station. “I would like to get started immediately.”

Juncker said the EU would pursue a “reasonable approach” in negotiating the separation. “It’s not an amicable divorce, but it was not exactly a tight love affair anyway,” he said.

Of course he wants to begin now. The quicker this is over, the better.

e : lol @ the american guys posting stuff reeking of the "EU = evil USSR oppressing superstate" narrative. That just shows the complete absence of knowledge about the EU from your part.

What I learned yesterday. Ok. I had an epiphany. In form of a mighty fine law. It came to me in two steps.

The first step came yesterday, like Jesus to Maria:

If in any given population the people may choose between two opportunities, and the arguments for either are riddled with fearmongering and baseless assumptions, the population will always choose the one which excludes the most.

I call this, to appease my vanity, the Dirk Law.

After considering with my narcissism, which couldn't live with the negative implications of this law, I just changed one consonant of the law. R to C.

The Dick Law.

Happy with this I went to sleep - but of course I tossed in my bed, knowing that something was amiss, I and couldn't find it. In the morning, plagued with sleep deprivation, I looked upon my very flacid member, thinking I might get old. Then it dawned on me and the second step came to me like a second Jesus:

If in any given population, in which the majority is middle aged or of old age, the people may choose between two opportunities, and the arguments for either are riddled with fearmongering and baseless assumptions, the population will always choose the one which excludes the most.

This of course needed a name change!

I am happy to call it the:

The Dick Law of old Geezers.

I'm reading the funniest things. People thinking with the Brexit the UK left Europe and are wondering what they belong to now... what.

Still gonna be a long while until they really are out of the EU anyway.

This isn't funny. It's embarrassing.

Edit: it might be two years until we're 'out' (whatever that means), but from now on we don't have a place at the table.

Anyone know what the Italians point of view on Brexit and when to start negotiations is?

As far as I'm concerned the next big thing from our side of the channel is probably the meeting between Merkel, Hollande, Renzi and Tusk on Monday, right? Juncker (not in there) wants it to start as soon as possible as he has said countless of times and I'm fairly sure the same goes for Tusk.
I know Merkel wants it the way Cameron mentioned, no need to rush right now, just go at it slowly. I'd assume the same goes for Hollande but I have really no idea about Renzi.

Though I didn't know it's just Juncker that wants them to make their leave ASAP if they intend to do it. I'm pretty sure Martin Schulz also said something similar.

from the UKs point of view, if Cameron steps down starting immediatly really makes no sense to them.
I kind of feel the later you start the more likely you are to get the UK leaving the EU in name only and basicly having it the same way it is right now. Which is in the interest of Merkel and Hollande to keep damages (to german and french economies) as small as possible. You still want trade to go both way more than anything.

Just guessing on my side but I don't think France or Germany care all that much about the freedom of movement for people from the EU part with the UK. That'd probably be more Spain/UK with all the retirees and people from the poorer blocks of the EU who want to work in the UK?

Waitaminute. This is a non-binding referendum that in fact :

1) Creates no duty by the government to initiate the legal process to withdraw from the EU.
2) Is likely to be followed by another referendum before any action is taken.
3) Doesn't legally change ANYTHING.

Why the fuck are people flipping out so much? I was kind of interested in the results until I actually read the article that makes these points and now I have no earthly idea why people actually care. At most, this is an "oh shit, voters are a lot more conservative than we thought they were" wake up call to people whose sole source of political news is reading the internet and think that the fact that the majority of bloggers and journalists lean left means that most people lean left.

Because people in a democracy tend to riot when the government ignores the opinion of the majority.

Yes it is technically non binding.
Yes it is complete suicide to not follow the result.

Also, this thread really went to shit since last night Oo so many content-less meme posts
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

It's not legally binding, yes.

It would be political suicide for anyone involved to ignore the results and stay in the EU anyways, so the Brexit will actually happen, because the majority of voters want it and a democratic system can't ignore the will of the people just because they don't like it.
Another referendum won't happen, you can't vote until you get the result you want. You vote and you stick with the results.

people basicly made it binding with what they said. Both from the UK as well as the EU side
