I personally am not blaming her for this happening, although I will blame her for being a hypocrite (see my other posts) and also for dealing with this in the completely wrong way. Ignore the trolls, get someone to ban/censor them for you, or smite them. Going public with this (as if it's a big deal, as if there aren't thousand of other YouTube and Twitch channels that deal with this shit just as much as her) and playing victim will NOT accomplish Anything AT ALL. EDIT: Or she can even realize that these trolls still contribute to her page views, video views, channel views etc and by commenting they push her videos higher up the YouTube ladder. So she's basically able to make more money thanks to this negative attention. Could probably try to exploit that instead of getting all pissy. You realise that women are trained from an early age not to cause a scene when men do things they're not comfortable. That it's just boys being boys and they should just put up with it, from leering to catcalling all the way up to harassment. That if a woman actually says "why don't you just fuck off" then suddenly she's hormonal, overreacting and a bitch. People blame women for rape when they don't fight enough or say "no" loudly enough and they call them attention seekers when they call out harassment. It's a no win situation.
But she didn't say "why don't you just fuck off". She wrote a big, public piece on the issue that did very little to address the issue in any realistic fashion other than "oh this shouldn't be happening". And the way in which she was written, made her very much sound like a victim, instead of a belligerent "fuck you, you're retarded and i ain't puttin up with this shit no moar" kind of rant that someone like TotalBiscuit might have made.
I agree that in real life things are more tricky, but don't forget this is the internet. Giving internet trolls attention, even taking the time to respond to them. let alone write a public article about them, is all they really want. Unless you're smacking them down assertively, it's best to just ignore them. And unlike real life, ignoring internet trolls is far easier, and censoring them is possible (whereas IRL you can't really stop people from voicing their opinion).
So a comparison to real life is not really justified here.

I was expecting more from you KwarK. What I find really funny about this kind of threads is that most people, in a vain attempt to prove a female author wrong, actually display the exact behaviours one could expect out a sexist community, trying to disqualify the author's opinion on the basis of "her not being a man, not being able to deal with it, and not just shutting her attention-whoring mouth".

You can't. There is no conceivable instance in which one person can garner the attention of a relatively large mass of people (in this case, all of the people who have viewed her videos) and please every single one of them. This is true on a general level, not just in this case.
You cannot please everyone. So what's worse, being a hypocrite or being belligerent and "on her period"? That's for her to decide.

I could not agree with both of these statements more.
In the first page of responses alone, there are so many of the standard sexist trope responses: * She is attention seeking. * I have it just as bad being a man, but I can't complain about it. * Names don't bother me or some other random female I make up, therefore she should not be bothered either. * Sexism doesn't exist. etc etc etc
It's impressive to me that she has the passion for games and such that she is willing to put up with all the bullshit and still produce content.

Thats the point though, not only would there be a lot less, but also it would be of different nature. There is a reason calling someone "ugly" won't really get you in trouble but sexual harassment will. Also don't be sexiest and say "a guy wouldn't make a big deal of it" plenty of guys do.

I think the problem is that she took youtube comments seriously. I mean people on youtube will make any type of shitty comments, not just related to sexism. Every now and then, you see someone posting pro-racist comments and other things that would normally be offensive.

Seriously a girl gets upset over trolls and you all get a stick up your ass over it, for every girl complaining about sexism there's like 20 dudes complaining about girls complaining over sexism. How about man up? Why is girls complaining about sexism so incredibly important an issue to you that you constantly have to point out how ridiculous you think they are? The replies to this topic so far have been pretty demoralising. Whenever a topic like this comes along I like teamliquid a little less. I could not agree with both of these statements more. In the first page of responses alone, there are so many of the standard sexist trope responses: * She is attention seeking. * I have it just as bad being a man, but I can't complain about it. * Names don't bother me or some other random female I make up, therefore she should not be bothered either. * Sexism doesn't exist. etc etc etc It's impressive to me that she has the passion for games and such that she is willing to put up with all the bullshit and still produce content. What people do not also realize is that feminism is not about THREATENING MEN. It's about asking for gender not being a valid basis for prejudice, may it be for men and women. Feminism is also realizing men do not have to "man up" all the time, and have the right to display interest in things that are not "manly". Do you feel comfortable being around jocks constantly reminding you that you are not a real man because you do not watch sports, or workout, or that videogames are for sissies? Then congratulation, you are in some way a feminist. Stop pretending these things do not exist.
