I guess that depends a lot on where you live.
Also, as far as i know, shooting down missiles is pretty hard. I have of course no idea just how good any missiles screens the USA have are, and how effective they would be at shooting down low-tech missiles coming from NK, if they even have some. But it is some orders of magnitude easier to launch a missile then to shoot one down.
That being said, NK is weird, and it is to hope for everyone involved that it somehow collapses without a lot of fallout rather soon.
afaik, the US missile defenses are REALLY good and NK prob wont ever be able to reach US with any missiles ever, but theres no way that N.K would ever use their only "security" when it comes to not getting attacked.
ot: humor is personal, I found this "rant" humorous:
North Korea has weapons of mass destruction.I'm surprised USA hasn't invaded North Korea at this point , I guess there is no oil or minerals worth while in NK. Plus who wants to invade a country who is willing to defend them selves.
but I did not laugh at the demeaning "analogies" about N.Korea, if I were a mod, would it be fine for them to be banned while this guy slips away with his rant? Of course not.
I'm just saying, Hate and "dark humor" towards the US seems to be punished a lot more than similar posts about the rest of the world.
Bill Murray... really? postcount?
speaking of postcount, youve posted 6k times on this forum and you still havent figured out how to qoute people, "[quo.te][/quo.te]" There you go, type it without the dots around the post you want to reply to next time and its a lot easier to keep track of a discussion.
yes ControlMonkey, thank you and sorry, I wont respond to any further offtopic-replies to me.
Also, considering the circumstances (new leader, the way china reacts to it etc) I feel like this is more about intern power struggles than anything else.

I pray to my spaghetti monster that it will never break out. So many lives are going to suffer. I wish N.Korea spoke true about making a better relationship with S.Korea. "A stronger united Korea" - it was translated from a Norwegian newspaper. (VG)

North-Korea can poke the bees nest as much as they want, the only difference is that the bees won't do anything.

If NK ever tries to nuke the USA, I predict China will sit back and let us destroy them. China cares more about US relations then they do about the cancerous NK.

actually you just click "quote" by their post

seriously, swede at top of page, quit derailing... someone else asked, a south korean got upset, warned over it...
let's talk about whether or not we are capable of shooting down the missile (we as america, because I am American) or whether or not North Korea even has the technology, in terms of rockets, to get one here... I kind of doubt that they do.
New Topic: What if they are just going to shoot it at Japan, in the end? I raised this in my first post, but I failed to see a response

It seems to me like North Korea is simply becoming a bigger and bigger hinderance to its powerful allies (Russia and China) rather than an example of how dictatorships can work.
I wouldn't be surpirsed if this goes ahead and that North Korea see's a drastic cut in its funding from allies.
|
It's very sad to me how many people have to suffer and die at the hands of just a few madmen
I get why the "retarded chihuahua" comment was warned, but the guy had a point and it is a fair analogy. NK is a joke of a country, and China only puts up with them to have a convenient buffer between China and a western military ally. The question is; when will China tighten the reigns?

I just don't see that happening.
Doing so would be suicidal and even the craziest of people generally have a sort of self preservation.
As far as I can see its all bark. They can yap all they want but the second they do anything serious NK gets thrown to the wolves by China and they cannot afford that.

LOL it's funny how most of what you said is actually kinda true...
But I'm pretty sure the "world" would not allow one country to "get rid" of another just like that. First, there are people in NK. So destroying NK would mean killing those people, which would be a crime against humanity since those people are innocent (and dare I say, oblivious).
Edit: This thread won't last very long it seems.

Well, "get rid" might also mean "get rid of their government". Which the world very much allows, as has been shown in afghanistan and iraq. It also has a tendency to lead to a lot of problems and tends to work a lot less good then expected, see the same two examples.

I seriously don't think that North Korea will launch a nuke. Just as Chirac mentionned it while talking about some country beeing on the verge of getting nukes: Let them have it. they know they will get roflstomped one hour after the launch.

Some people take "get rid of X" too litteraly. It is more likely to be "get rid of the gov." The same confuson happened when Ahmadinedschad talked about ereasing Israel I guess.

NK is quite a curious paradox in a modern day world..
|
We have an interesting diplomatic/geopolitical situation here, and I am having a laugh imagining "First World" (obviously US) heads of state discussing this:
Leader: What else is there is NK that we can sanction to discourage this insanity...
errr...
meanwhile...
Kim: Puck you Murika! I'm batshit insane!
|
I say let them do whatever they want. They don't listen anyway to what the West has to say.
|
I think that this is a standard political ploy for the leadership to appear strong and determined to the people of NK. We have to remember that most of them are brainwashed in thinking that the West is the evil empire and North Korea is the only nice place to live, a socialist utopian society.
Talks like this can actually only do good as it further alienates the "allies" of NK. It is becoming more difficult to be a serious player on the world stage and support a pathetic government like NK, and the existence of NK as a buffer zone between the East and West is becoming much less important to Russia and China.
