Woah.. i never said i was a hacker & i am not, just because your interested in a topic doesn't mean you are that person. My Dad likes WW2 and has books but he isn't a Nazi...

There doesn't need to be a benefit. I certainly don't support these hackers but I can see why they do it. They do it for the challenge and for fun. They do it for the same reason someone else plays a video game.

Some men just want to watch the world burn. There's no understanding why. Maybe some people weren't loved enough as children. Maybe enough bad stuff happened to them that they stopped caring about life. We'll never know. All we can do is watch.

As stated there was probably some common / simple vulnerability they abused in all cases. Often things that get hacked or when information is leaked you find that they had abysmal precaution (PSN anyone?). As for the hackers themselves, those people claiming they do it for the fun and the challenge are missing the fact that they released the information publicly, that's pure malice, they are not respectable people in any fashion and probably aren't very sophisticated simply because most intelligent people with skills will be gainfully employed and have a lot to lose, with very few exceptions, Gary McKinnon comes to mind as an exception but his actions were definitely not malicious, he just had Aspergers and wanted to find information so he single handedly hacked into the US Military and NASA because their security 'was crap' in his words. Which US president left launch codes in his jacket pocket when he sent it to the cleaners again?
