1. Why is Justin Uberti such a dick, and why is he allowed to twitter? 2. Why is the unboxing video by 2 12-yo girls?

Those are some insane deals for the specs, but a 3rd party ROM which won't receive any security updates is a huge issue .

Pretty sure all of them have CM
And Xiaomi EU has weekly builds, not sure about the security updates tho
|
Doesnt that mean that Android has fundamental problems ?

He's salty that his entire project is being made irrelevant by Messenger 2.0. No one gives a shit about Allo and he thinks too highly of his own work. In his eyes, he's not getting the attention and admiration he deserves.

I think it's finally time to replace my Nexus5. But Pixel is like $800+? Wtf?
Any alternatives that are stock Android, 5"ish, less costly?
|
OnePlus 3 is about $400, is not completely stock but its very close to, incredible phone for the price
the Z Play $400 too, less powerful, but supposedly (if you dont game) the phone runs everything super smoothly and has one of the best batteries ever (according to reviews)
After that, and slightly older is the X Pure, which can be found for about $200-250, SD808, 3gb ram, 2k screen, decent battery, etc... which i own and while rom support is pretty meh, it has decent and it also has the increidbly underrated front facing speakers, but its kinda big at 5.7
Those are pretty much your options (besides the obvios Nexus 6p and 5x)

That wouldn't do, would need a phone that works with 4G at least in NA and Europe.

Im not sure about the other phones BUT, you might want to look at the X Pure, one of the selling points of that phone is that it has ALL 4g bands, so the Pure Edition (NA) has 4G everywhere in the world.
What about the Axon 7 ? but you are entering custom UI android territory

My wife and I bought an LG Nexus 5X in Dec-15 from the Google Store, and now both of ours have suffered the infinite bootloop problem. There's a big Reddit thread about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/5l66de/bootloop_megathread_20/?utm_content=title&utm_medium=hot&utm_source=reddit&utm_name=nexus5x
Thankfully both of them were replaced free-of-charge by Google, even though mine just went out of warranty less than a month ago. So I'm happy about that. However I've learned that having to go 2-3 days without a smartphone (when I heavily rely on it for work) is incredibly stressful, so I don't want to risk that for my next phone. So basically my question is, does anybody have a recent list of smartphones and their associated return rates due to manufacturer defects (hardware or software)? I might switch to an iPhone as soon as my current 5X goes end-of-life if their reliability is better.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note brand took a devastating blow this year with the recall and eventually being discontinued entirely due to some battery issues. This has sparked a new trend in the Android community, and with news publications in general, where each and every Samsung phone that catches fire seemingly needs to be reported on.
Don’t get me wrong, the Galaxy Note 7 issue was huge and it deserved the attention it received. But the batteries we use in our phones are not 100% safe and these defective units do pop up from time to time.
With Samsung being highlighted in headline after headline about smartphone fires, many started to speculate about what the company was going to do with the Galaxy Note brand in general. This even started some rumors that Samsung would release a variant of the Galaxy S8 that was bigger and included an S Pen so they could retain some of their Galaxy Note fans without having to use the brand name. This speculation was stretched even further with some people thinking Samsung would ditch the Galaxy Note brand entirely.
The loss of revenue from the Galaxy Note 7 debacle didn’t seem to hurt Samsung’s overall profits during the fourth quarter of last year. Granted, a lot of this profit is from their component, display and appliance divisions, but they still managed to bring in over $7 billion in pure profit for the quarter. CNET was able to sit down with Samsung’s mobile chief, D.J. Koh recently, and they talked about how the battery issue would impact the Galaxy Note series as a whole.
Mr. Koh isn’t scared and feels they can win back the trust of their customers by creating a “better, safer and very innovative Note 8.” He feels the fans of the Galaxy Note series are very dedicated and that it will be too difficult to simply walk away from that segment of the market. This makes a lot of sense too considering there aren’t many OEMs who currently offer a premium smartphone experience that includes a stylus.

Hey all,
I was browsing for water-proof phones with USB and the one that I thought was best for me is the Samsung A3 which is coming out next month.
Is that an okay phone for the price? I haven't had an Android phone since I got the iPhone 5 as a gift when it came out, but it's starting to show its age. The battery is dying and it has fallen down a thousand times so it's scratched to bits.
I don't want to get too large a phone and water proofing / USB C are the most important bids to me.
|
IMO the A3 (2017 model I'm assuming) is overpriced for its specs, but it's probably the cheapest thing with both IP68 and a USB-C. Aside from crappy Sony phones you're not going to find anything else of a comparable size to the iPhone. So yeah, I would say it's probably your best bet.

I had a question, maybe somebody here can help. Does anybody have a list of Android phones that currently get security updates at least monthly?

LG and Samsung promised they would, but insofar as I know didn't deliver (except very very maybe on the flagship models, but I don't think even that).

The Nexus 5 was EOL'd recently, and all of the ones older than that don't receive updates.
There's a reason I'm asking for a list. For example, does the OnePlus 3? ZTE Axon 7?

Xiaomi phones get security updates farily quick honestly (mhy brother owns a Redmi Note 3), big android updates not so much but they have (almost) their own OS with MIUI and a lot of stuff are added in incremental updates.
OnePlus also, my brother's OP2 recieved a security update not too long ago
and btw, just bought a OnePlus 3T :D
