The inheritance tax is one of the most unfair taxes in the whole system. People are actually taxed twice, first when they pay their income tax (wich already takes 50%) and then when they die whatever they have build up is taxed once more for the inheritance tax. It also has more effect on poor people then on rich people, truly rich people dont pay this tax as they have so manny means to avoid it with trustfunds or whatever fiscal structure they need. Its the poor people who inherit only a little that suffer the most from this tax.

WTF? Inheritance tax is one of the most retarded taxations in existence. So if I work my ass off to build a nestegg for my wife and children, pay my taxes throughout the decades, then I die and then... they have to pay taxes AGAIN?

Seriously she and her party want to "protect the planet" but they don't have a clue how to do it lol. The only way to protect the planet is to use the white materia to summon Holy !

Years and years of exciting people against strangers, discriminating them, while "fighting criminality and discrimination"... There was a good post about that a few pages ago. I agree there are extremists, and deliquants, but the more you talk about them, the more it artificially inflates the problem, and brings people to adher to their ideas. Plus, FN vote was always used as a contestation vote. Add to that all the right wing people who despise Sarkozy and didn't want to vote for him. Marine is much smarter than her father, too, and actually managed to improve the reputation of her party these last few years. But this is fucking scary indeed. Sigh.

Why should the money someone earns by inheritance be taxed at a lower rate than the money someone earns by working hard? Watch Anthony Weiner (I miss this guy SO much) completely demolish Megyn Kelly and Mike Huckabee on that precise topic: vs Megyn Kelly vs Mike Huckabee The fallacy that opponents of the estate tax use is the idea that the person who's dead has gotten taxed twice. That is NOT the case. That person got taxed once, when he earned his money. The person inheriting the money also gets taxed once, when receiving the money.

Marine Lepen often said that she considers equal all French people whatever their race, religion etc.So on an official stance the FN can not be consider a racist party. Which was not the case during Jean-Marie Lepen. Not saying the party hasn't solid racist roots, just my explanation of their high score.

Alright, I'm going to go at this from a different angle. Well I understand the reasonings behind a high income tax, I must question if it's really worth it. I'll have to read up on the bill, but I imagine a lot of income taxes can simply be subverted by moving somewhere else/prior gifts/non-monetarial possesions, etc. Won't this bill just encourage rich people to change their assets, or even leave the country? (And by that, you wouldn't be able to tax anything.)

See my edit in my previous post for clarification. The two people earning money (one through his work, the other through inheritance) get taxed once each, which is perfectly legitimate. There is no reason why someone who earns his money through inheritance should be taxed at a lower rate than someone who earns his money through hard work. edit: ok you just edited your post after seeing my initial edit :p I'll use this space to reply to your newly edited post. edit2: I feel that your new post moves beyond the discussion we were having on estate tax, and discussing the specific bill that was mentioned by A. Weiner would pretty much amount to derailing this thread which is about French elections, so it's probably best to stop here... We can continue this via PM if you want, but basically my position is that a higher income tax for the richest people (or at least removing the tax breaks they're currently enjoying) would result in increased revenue for the state.

You can donate money to each, and a child can receive from each family member up to around 30k€ every 10 years without paying taxes. That seems fine and enough to me. You can also give 150k€ in housing, or stocks, to your children, without paying taxes (double that for a couple) More looks okay to tax to me. "Hey, let's give our child 1 million !!" ......... Inheritance is another problem, explained in previous posts. It's a kind of revenue, as sad as it looks like.
