SC2 is easily the #1 esport, i have no idea why people are taking an opinion piece from a mainstream retard as gospel. Look at what is going on worldwide. What is happening is that korea IS big on esports, but the COMPETITIVE esports scene is no longer SOLELY in korea. it has exploded onto the world map, where players are moving OUT of korea to compete in bigger money, more prestigious USA based and European leagues and tournaments. Korea is like the breeding ground for all the good players, like college football is for the NFL, then once they get really good in GSL they start going to MLG and IEM and all that to make money and get famous worldwide. basically, korean players are starting to look OUTWARD at the possibility of a huge worldwide fanbase (and money) the way foreign SC players/fans used to look INWARD at them. which obviously signifies an explosion of growth and popularity in esports. it's no longer solely confined to one country, and is gaining momentum in the outside world. why might Laugh out Loud be more popular in korea? maybe because korean companies can no longer keep up with all the foreign money being dumped into REAL, COMPETITIVE esports. Which is obviously a good thing.
No, I actually think LoL is bigger than SC2. Look at the viewer numbers, they are ridiculous! People say that the stream is open in the game client, but it's a bit iffy as to whether this actually counts as a viewer. And individual players that stream often get 30k+ viewers. I don't play LoL but we can't just lie to ourselves. I think SC2 has much better infrastructure in terms of like tournaments and what-not, as aren't most LoL tourneys paid for by Riot?
What is wrong with people? LoL has more viewers in óne tournament, that is IEM. at MLG, sc2 has more, at IPL sc2 also had more viewers. Many in the sc2 community doesn't seem to like the IEM, because of many of the issues having been shown, also many in sc2 who goes to barcraft for every tournament, also lowering viewcount which is based on PC, not people. Generally, LoL has way less viewers, it's just that óne tournament. Cant base it on just 1 tournament sigh

Numbers don't support this from what I know.
And the players in SC2 are moving out from Korea because Korea doesn't give a shit about SC2 compared to other games such as BW and LoL.
It's about what you think #1 Esport means. If it's higest amount of tournaments and prize money overall than it's SC2. If it's highest amount of viewer than it's LoL.
#1 esports = most viewers
plain and simple
also why sc2 failed
Failed at what? It's still successful as you speak.
If you mean failed at being #1, then it's unavoidable. It's the genre. LoL despite what fans say, is factually more casual oriented. SC2 requires work to be fun for a lot of people, but the same applies to every RTS, it's a reward. LoL is instant gratification for a lot of people.
not really a big deal, starcraft 2 just is not a very good game. It is not even close to ready to be a korean #1 like starcraft was, needs at least a few more years of polishing. Its just as casual as LoL right now.

I though we are arguing about #1 worldwide because the first post you quoted he clearly talked about SC2 being #1 worldwide.

When OGN get the machine rolling, LoL will grow exponentially. Two years ago, all my peers were playing SC2, all of them have currently switched to LoL. Not only is LoL much bigger in the casual market in SK but also worldwide.
this will happend in every country eventually. they have money to spend and their target group is mainstream gamers. brilliant and I am, just like any other lover of esports should be, happy for them.

LoL hasn't been consistently present at MLG and has only competed in one season of IPL so far.
And IEM numbers do offer a very dramatic contrast. Carmac tweeted 250k> viewers were watching simultaneously at Hannover. That are numbers that you can't just write off as one-time happenings as Dreamhack had already busted 200k.

Dota is not that big in US but it is huge in east europe, russia and china. It is likely that dota 2 will "overtake" lol in those areas, once the game is actually released.

LoL is starting to really expand; these articles are popping up because of that. IEM, NASL, Dreamhack, and IPL are early adopters. Whether MLG is going jump on the boat remains to be seen, but I can't see them missing the opportunity.
The reason why SC2 and WC3 are good spectator sports is because each side starts off with a small number of buildings and a small army, and gradually grows to this giant army and mass of tech structures and bases. You can follow the progress of the game, and when units die, they die.
With LoL, it's just the same characters for 40 minutes, running around. Nothing changes. I'm sure the game has depth for people who play it. I just can't watch it.

Lol has doubled if not tripled viewers at dreamhack for the last 2 dreamhacks? (the huk one and this most recent).
Lol has surpassed sc2 in almost every tournament for a while now i dont know where you have been.

All the dota games have zoning and lane freezing (in fact, DotA/HoN even more than LoL due to creep pulling). What you're describing isn't unique to LoL at all.
It's unique in the sense that the lack of being able to last hit your own minions while zoning/freezing makes the act of zoning/freeze much different than in other AOS clones.
dota: opps I fucked up my freeze and my lane is starting to push, oh I'll just last hit my own minions
lol: opps I fucked up my freeze and my lane is starting to push, do I shove the tower? dive? do I have vision wards so I can attempt a freeze further up lane?
Funny that you bring towers when towers are far more important in dota. Also you're second part doesnt make any sense since you can do the same decision in dota. Do you think that LoL invented last hit ? LoL is fun easy to pick up that's true. But even as a LoL player, you can't deny that dota has far more depht and is better to watch (not easier tho).

dota 2 will not take over lol. dota 2 is far from being casual and casual is why so many people have played lol. most people who play lol have not played dota bro.
