Final buyers will absolutely wait more than a year. I will put money on it... Think 18 to 24 months.
Good thing I didn't order a TOJ..jeez
I ordered one
13.5 months now for a DR (still hasn't arrive yet, of course).
On the other hand, my TOJ MA-1 purchased second hand arrives tomorrow.
It honestly feels like the lead times have increased to the point that drew might as well do some kind of raffle where one person in the june/july queue gets their jacket every month. I ordered in october so I don't expect to get anything for at least another 4 months... which will mark the start of summer for me so it pretty much means another 3+ months of waiting. I'm no stranger to long wait times, but toj has taken this to the extreme.
also as a followup regarding the toj thing, a lot of other small mtm leatherworking companies are also very random about production times and have extremely lengthy wait periods. my point is not that the wait time is absurd, but the fact that they took on so many orders before closing it while planning to pursue other ventures/projects at the same time.
Thanks lichter for the watch advice. I definitely don't want to get into the business of flipping watches, ideally I'd like 1 casual watch (which would be the sinn 356) and 1 dress watch (something thin and minimal) and that's it. I want to pick one or two that I really like and then stick with them for a long time, which helps me to justify the initial outlay. I don't quite understand the 'once you start you can't stop' mentality some of the people on wus/reddit have, but maybe I'm just naive... Junghans max bill chronoscope looks great with the white face. I don't understand how to buy things off chrono24, I sent messages to foreign sellers but they never replied
As for toj, I have the wool ma-1 too and it's not pinstriped, it's a micro herringbone. I'm still waiting on a daypack and wallet. Kinda lame that they're still not here after 4 months when it was clearly stated to be 2 months from order. It would've been perfect to use on my upcoming trip to Vancouver. On that note, anyone got any recs on food/fashion/things to do there? I'm staying near nicola/robson st, and I might make a 1 day trip down to Seattle just to visit totokaelo
I used to post a lot on WUS, but after my last watch buy I decided to stop because 1.) I don't want to feel more watch envy; 2.) I don't want to be tempted into buying more yet; and 3.) I'm happy with what I have right now.
For a dress watch I can't recommend Nomos enough. The Orion is beautiful. I might eventually buy it despite already owning a Club datum. I have a rule that I shouldn't buy 2 watches from the same maker yet, but I'll break that rule eventually for sure.

How much do Nomos watches actually go for? Ludwig, Zurich, and Orion all look pretty good, but prices I saw have them at 4-5k EUR. Is that the going price?
Well I bought my Club datum around 5 or 6 years ago, and I believe it cost around $1,800 back then. I believe prices now are closer to $2,500. Rather expensive, but it's one of the cheapest manufacture movements you can buy.
As for alternatives under $1k, I like the Orient Bambino (the new vintage-look one is pretty nice), Hamilton Intramatic, Seiko SARB065 Cocktail Time, Seiko SARB035, Tissot Visodate... there's probably a Christopher Ward with a similar aesthetic. That's for autos. I'm sure there are a bunch of fashion quartzes that look similar.
I was debating between the visodate and intramatic, but ultimately, I liked the thinness of the latter and I hated the way tissot was splashed across the watch face. lack of second hand on the intramatic is a serious bummer though. I also rejected the bambino because the bezel was too thick for my liking
just my personal preferences, but all of those choices are great
Nomos Tangomat is a grail of mine, but even the tangente is out of my price range. I've been looking at the Rodina R005 which is basically a nomos copy, but it seems like at 38 mm it'll wear too big on my puny 6" wrists. Any other similar bauhaus style watches?
38mm is fine for 6". My wrist is a shade under 6.5" and up to 41mm looks fine if the bezel is thin enough.
As for alternatives with an auto, one more I remembered is the Seagul M177s. It looks pretty similar to the JLC Master Control, and it's a really handsome watch.
If I ever skip out getting the Master Control I will definitely pick this one up.
so like, does the US Air Force have a patent or trademark on MA-1? I'm assuming no? Should they have? What about for all the other designs taken from military wear? Not like they would ever need the money but it's kinda unfortunate no one knows the people who actually designed them.
Another thing, I feel like brands like N&F and CP make too many variations, I don't know how much they make of each but it seems like too much since a lot of the weirder designs are always on sale.
found this place that has bunch of t by a wang at 50% off, wondering if i should risk getting 2 tees in small when i probably need xs. kinda annoying to have to pay €8.50 shipping on a €40 order though.
they also have a bunch of those linen/silk blends still in stock (although none in white) if people wanted some
the reason i'm actually considering buying these is because i'm super frustrated with my friends. they are like highschoolers except pushing their mid-twenties and i look stupid every time i try to wear anything more "formal" than a sweatshirt next to them. that and lack of interesting slim trouser choices <£300
yeah my sweatpant game is increasing exponentially as college goes on... not sure if i'll be getting an "fashion" sweats, i really just want some nike techfleece
i have an xs but its a lowneck. actually im thinking about his tanks when i realized all i can wear with my linen pants is linen shirts. i also kinda want those long sleeves... bah
uniqlo, epaulet, rrl officer chinos, etc. I'd love to know what British people think of howell cuz it's very limited in NA and the only brand I know that makes loose fitting formal casual pieces, or at least as well. But I understand a lot of their stuff is targeted at older audiences, apparent from the conservative colors, etc, even though they use young models.
Also yea I identify with your problem and realized I'm never gonna wear my full EG stuff outside unless I move to a vastly different environment since at a school setting, no one else but the most eccentric asians will dress the same way and the last thing I wanna do is become an eccentric asian dresser.
