edit: brand is 20jeans.com, now that I look at it again, I should've been able to tell from the threading I guess.

I feel like this is a common misconception. Correct me if I'm wrong, but older (40+) people have always been the true clientele for designer fashion. There's a reason slp makes jeans up to 36/38 waist. Middle aged people have more freedom financially and societally (which is earned) to wear that kind of stuff. I'm thinking the head of a design/architectural firm who has suiting from kiton/brioni along with ccp, and john lobbs next to his guidis. Young people are the marketable face of fashion, but they usually lack purchasing power and feel the need to conform in order to fit in or advance in life (one notable exception would be japanese youth culture). I think in some ways, the internet has sort of warped our perception of this fact through selective bias to the point where we think every 18 year old has geobaskets, but the somewhat unpalatable truth is that rick's real customers are 40 year old married women the real customers are probably 22-35 year olds undergoing quarterlife crisis lol

They're not even selvedge, haha. You get what you pay for I guess though.

To be frank, (forgive me for saying this over and over) we can say that the vast majority of people who stunt on the internet are one of a kind, even in major metropolitan cities. I think within a two year time period, I've seen about 4 people who wear Rick Owens in walking around in Toronto, and I'm the only one wearing geobaskets. Granted, I wear them on average of maybe once or twice a week, but for those of us that treat fashion as an expensive hobby we are often conditioned to groupthink in such the way stated above. I think the only other people living in the same city as me who are "young and have the freedom to buy whatever" would be Shui Tsang and troublewithmyself (her tumblr is long gone though..? some drama happened lmao). As stated before, the young and impressionable are often easily swayed to "look good" for their peers, but are lacking in purchasing power. Theoretically, it's the same reason in which mid tier brands (think mall luxury..? I'm thinking along the tiers of Zara) are successful, their target customers are literally everybody in the market - from the teenagers to the middle aged woman, and imitate actual luxury clothing while providing what the general public deems to be an "affordable" price point. EDIT: I'VE ALSO BEEN THINKING OF TAKING UP SKATEBOARDING RECENTLY. I WOULD BE COMPLETELY NEW AND I AM ALSO 22 YEARS OLD. AM I TOO OLD TO BE A GOON ON A BOARD NOW?

It's just really hard to tell in general, some people can also have a good eye but know jackshit about brands. Some asian girls are naturally good dressers with just stuff they pull out of nordstrom's and H&M, it's in their genes. I've probably walked past someone wearing some vintage grail OG yohji shawl and not blink twice because it looked like a normal shaw while that person knows far more about clothes than I ever will. While the stuff I do notice are probably cheap knockoffs like what happened to me. I stared at that dude's ass for like a good 5 min on and off before finally deciding to ask.

i actually see a lot more middle-aged ladies than cool youths wearing cdgplay x converse, in london at least. don't think i've ever seen rick being worn outside of a shop, but i don't hang around in areas where people might

but i think that a lot of the highly recommended brands have a good price point worth the product. ie i keep seeing people rave over uniqlo ocbds. not because its the best ocbd out there (my BB BF is def better quality and cut, though not length; rugby was also better rip let me know if you find a white rugby ocbd in xs) but because it costs $20 and isn't so far below quality of rugby (which actually was like $30-40, so sameish price) and BB and gitman and BoO or whatever that it can hang. also i think ive accepted that im never gonna look internet cool and thats ok. just so much effort sometimes... i love clothes but i hate wearing them

For instance if we look at a v-neck t-shirt there's the length of the shirt, the length of the sleeve, how deep the V is, how thick the fabric is, how soft it is etc. etc. Kind of mind boggling to me how I see the same few t-shirts recommended over and over despite the fact that everyone's preferences must be different. Are you talking about cut or fabric? I'd imagine good fabrics like alpaca, linen, etc are universally desired for their respective strengths. Was browsing through MFA and saw this guide: http://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/2cilo9/modernist_streetwear_style_guide/ This guy summarizes the "standard" sufu and sf fits pretty well (more sf I think). Seems like the appeal of the fits he posted are just the fits in themselves and nothing else. It's also the same fit and proportions for every picture. Modernist is not the same as modern, and I don't know if modern is the proper term to describe the styles he's writing about. I don't wanna be like the cynical hipster who hates everything but I only liked a few of the button down pics, rest is pretty nondescript. Reading that guide kinda made me not want to dress like that. BB has been on sale continuously for the past 3-4 months though, not sure if they're doing bad or what. NWT BF shirts can usually be found for around $50 on ebay.

I'm in between xs and s for uniqlo, bb0 fits me pretty well so its pretty person dependent. Also thiugh, they're designed for different markets (regular dude vs casually dressed guy that shops at bb). So i dunno. Im def getting another uniqlo one though
