Ok so I know eating when you have a bad hang over isn't pleasant, but after a couple of hours I usually get hungry (unless it's a really really bad hangover; in that case I just lie in bed and suffer) and need some food in my system regardless of the nausea that lingers. It's pretty much a ritual for me and my friends to get pho the day after drinking. If the nausea is bad, I don't eat the noodles but the broth does wonders for my stomach. Do you guys eat something specific to help or cure your hang over?

edit: I know you can prevent hangovers but that's not what I'm asking

A sausage and egg McMuffin. The grease somehow offsets the churning shit that's already in my stomach (don't ask me how).

Helpful tip:

Drink lots of water. Like a gallon. It gets rid of the headache. Do not take medication to alleviate your headache, because drinking + pills in such a short time takes a serious toll on your liver.

Half a bottle of beer about after about an hour or 2 of hanging behind the TV/PC after waking up. Then drag your ass to burger king, and get a whopper or 2. Or something equally unhealthy and fat.

I get a veggie delite with everything on it. Slice of avocado and chipotle sauce. It works well for me and I feel rehydrated.

I heard that water usually does the trick for people with hangovers. Other people say that eggs or fruit works for their hangovers.

I'm certain just drinking lots of fluid will help with the dehydration.

Yes do this. You basically piss the poison out of your system.

Also inducing vomiting can make you feel better.

My top choice for hangover food is always ramen.

I need something greasy to sober me up. Water and oranges help, but ramen is the elixir for me.

The best way to prepare for a hangover is to prevent it. Drink better stuff or less of it. If you come back with "I can't afford the better stuff but I want to get drunk" then let me know what you would be drinking IF you had more money to spend on booze and I'll buy some.

What Derez said, about the beer. Also, there's a drink in Bulgaria called Ayran, made of yoghurt, water and salt, man it's like a medivac healing ya.
As for food - omelette with bacon - you need fatty stuff right now, bacon is perfect, eggs contain cysteine, which makes your body get free from poisonous stuff, helps with alcohol, too
EDIT : Also, fresh veggies make the omelette tastier, and also contain B-vitamins which help immensely, too
Yeah, whatever

I usually make a fruit smoothie with strawberries, oranges, bananas, milk, and a few vitamin C tablets. Depending on the severity of the hangover, it's usually 1 hour before I'm back to decent operating conditions.

Works every time, to an extent at least. Best thing you can do is force a gallon down before hitting the deck but that's not always viable.

Gotta second the guy who said kebab, and adding left over pizza to that. Tastes fucking great while sucking up the alcohol.

I think whatever the person finds as "comfort food" should be the best option for them. It's nice to have something mentally uplifting to get your mind off of it. Pizza or Halal food from the carts do it for me ^________________^

you don't just drink a gallon of water to rehydrate yourself... you need electrolytes, either in the form of really salty shit (like ramen) or gatorade.

Ayran is a type of buttermilk

The reason you get a hangover is because you are so dehydrated, so hydrating yourself is the best way to get over it. drink lots and lots of water and juice, not coffee or soda, as those also dehydrate you.

Smoke weed or eat edible. Best possible hangover cure.

If you get hungry: french fries, eggs, sausage, bacon, slice of bread and thats it.

Basically what a lot of people are saying. I usually down three or four of those huge dorm cups full of water, lay down again until the water settles and I don't feel nauseous, then sit up and go on the computer until the headache goes away, and then I'm good enough to get up and get a burger.

Only time I ever eat/want/crave bacon is when I'm hung over because there's just something about it. Bacon double cheeseburger at burger king with a medium sprite and fry does the trick if you want a referral =P. Just make sure you eat slow and either wait to drive home after or drive home first. I got car sick once, I don't know if it was cause of the hangover or bad food, but just to be safe. Getting car sick while driving sucks =\

I would say prevent it. It's been a long time since I've had a hangover. No matter how drunk I get, I always look to drink a ton of water or Gatorade, if I have it available, before I go to bed. Allows me to avoid the painful morning after.

If I simply happen to pass out, I generally feel better eating some type of greasy food, with bread product as a component.

I dont see how "better" stuff decreases hangover symptoms. Dehydration is dehydration, I can buy grey goose or I can buy BOSS, drinking either wont change a thing. If you dont want a hangover stay away from caffiene and sugary beverages. In the end, as long as you drink alot of water it just wont be as bad.

I second Vietnamese pho for best hangover food. Lots of water to hydrate yourself, lots of good wholesome food.

Even better, drink gatorade or powerade. Even more better, drink a bunch before you go to sleep and your hangover will be way less then it would otherwise. There's been times I drank 15 whisky shots in a night, but because I was also drinking gatorade most the time I didn't even wake up with a hangover. Other times I won't and I'll have 3 crown and cokes and feel shitty the next morning(yea, I'm kinda lightweight when it comes to getting hungover which is why I do above)

From what I've heard, the impurities in the alcohol contribute to the hangover. Better quality alcohol supposedly has less impurities.

My korean friend showed me this soup, it's actually surprisingly good. He said it was known for being a hangover cure lol. I don't know the name though :< Usually I don't get hangover though, just downing 1L of water before passing out works wonders.

Banana caramel sauce sandwich.

1) Put 2 slices of bread in the toaster.
2) Add roughly equal parts butter and sugar to a pan (about 2 tablespoons each for 1 sandwich), and bring it to medium heat.
3) Add vanilla, honey, and cinnamon for flavour.
4) Thinly slice a banana and put the pieces in the now-simmering caramel sauce.
5) Flip the banana slices over so they can caramelize on the other side, and cut the heat.
6) Pull out the 2 slices of toast and butter the insides.
7) Pour the banana slices + caramel sauce onto one of the slices of toast, and close up your sandwich.
8) Dig in and enjoy. Make sure it's not too hot though!

The entire thing takes ~3 minutes from start to finish.

Calzone Pizza with ham, onion, mushrooms and extra tomato sauce from one of the 21 pizza places in my mid-sized town.

That plus either an ice cold beer, no joke, great cure for hangover, an ice cold chococate milk or simply some coca cola.

Obviously followed by a trip back to bed with a bag of salty chips.

I pity myself at those times.

Don't just drink water when you are hung over, you'll just throw it up. Eat something, like pancakes or waffles, and then drink water. That way you'll get hydrated and you'll be able to keep it down.

The top thing though: Go do something. Don't just sit around inside and think how bad you feel, force yourself to eat and then go for a run or something.

EDIT:

The same thing that is best against dihareha, is also best to combat hangovers: water with a table spoon of sugar and a pinch of salt per liter.
Aah thats the stuff..

Some scientists came out saying the 'best' hangover food is honey on toast. Because honey has chemicals which help break down alcohol.

Ok seriously whats up with Pho ? Is it really that insanely good ?

We don't have that in the Uk, i mean i guess it probably exists but it's certainly not well known/common.

Anyone here in the Uk that has Pho on a regular basis ?

getting anything in my system usually takes away the headache, but just makes me feel like shit in general.
I think you want to drink water mainly. And eat stuff with alot of water in it like apples in the morning or salad at noon. Coincidentally these things also don`t make you hurl on reflex when you think of them (like some foods do) , so they are quite pleasant to eat

All I really get in the morning is a headache if anything. Or I wake up still drunk as hell.

Any good, full, warm meal will do a lot for lifting your spirits. Doesn't really have to be anything specific, just filling and warm. Imagine you were like lost in the wilderness for a week and on being rescued you were asked what you wanted to eat for breakfast. Your eyes will be 100x bigger than your plate but whatever your answer is, get that for the hangover.

Ppl saying water. Yall should be drinking water anyways regardless of your alcohol consumption. If it's a kegger then put water in your cup after every time you finish a cup of beer. Nobody notices or cares. And you can last longer into the night, beat everybody at whatever games are still going on and still get a boner going if necessary since you aren't completely trashed.

I dont see how "better" stuff decreases hangover symptoms. Dehydration is dehydration, I can buy grey goose or I can buy BOSS, drinking either wont change a thing. Better stuff has less higher order alcohols in it, but you pay more of course.

As far as food goes, anything of high calorie intake works for me. But the most important thing is to drink water. For everyone. Hell, I even happened to avoid hangover altogether by drinking more than half a litre of water before going to sleep in a position where I would have a killer hangover otherwise. Also, wise drinking (read: mixing properly if at all) helps. I can say that I hadn't had a major hangover since I was 18.

To make things simple: It's not alcohol itself that causes dehydration, but mostly aldehydes in it. The better distilled the liquor is, the less aldehydes it contains (in the case of strong alcohols, e.g. whiskey, vodka etc.)
Fun fact: Aldehydes also cause the"fire" in your throat when you drink. A truly pure alcohol (96.6%) should taste almost like water.

Liter of water, pot of coffee, and scrambled eggs. Usually I just go to the local Dennys, get a coffee, eggs and toast, and just have them keep the coffee and water coming.
The opinion above should be ignored.

Yes do this. You basically piss the poison out of your system.

Also inducing vomiting can make you feel better.

Thats not true at all. The reason why your head ache goes away is because you stop being dehydrated (the reason why you have head ache, not enough water for your krebs cycle).

Cook some pasta (spaghetti). When its ten minutes from done start chopping 1-1.5 cloves/pieces of a large garlic. Chop finely. Throw into frying pan with oil and margerine and whatever the fuck else you wanna eat today. Cook until garlic is caramelized. Make sure to throw the strained pasta INTO the cooking garlic, mix, eat.

Encebollados (Ecuador)
The base of this seafood soup is called Sofrito and is a pungent mix of Tomatoes, Onions, Cumin, Chili and Cilantro (coriander). The protein element and foundation for the stock is Tuna. The starch element is Yuca a starchy root vegetable that requires time to cook down the coarse threads found within its stalk. The result is a delicious aromatic savory and spicy soup that is traditionally topped with pickled onions and tomatoes. ENJOY IT!! you'll feel like a new man.

I'm sure it's been said by now, but you get a hangover because you are dehydrated. Therefore, I always make sure to drink a ton of water before I go to bed. I generally force it down even if I'm not very thirsty. I always drink water throughout the night because I eventually get so drunk that I can barely function to get myself water. I've also found that eating a ton of greasy food somehow settles your stomach to make you feel better after you've drank a lot (the night of). The greasier the better really. Anywho, cheers!

I give myself another tatoo somerwhere on my body, with the statement "i will never drink again". The "pain" and concentration it takes, usually does it.
Also the thought of never being hungover again helps. That thought disappears in the evening though :D

I get a massive bottle/glass, fill it with ice, and then water. Keep skolling water, refilling as you go with ice/water, because it tastes delicious. Vomit from having so much liquid ingested. Repeat as necessary. Enjoy the magical disappearance of the hangover!
It is, in the end, whatever the Hell I want it to be, And when I'm through with it, it's gonna blow a hole, This wide, straight through the worlds own idea of itself. They're throwing bottles at your house. Come on, lets go break their arms.

After heavy drinking i usually end the night with the afore mentioned massive amount of water. Like, alot. I helps so much to reduce the hangover feeling the next day, ofsetting the dehydration alcohol brings. in the morning i usually fry some eggs with ham/bacon/whatever meat i have left and eat it with alot of bread.

Call my bluff, but slimfast shakes are the ultimate hangover cure. I always have trouble getting the first meal in me, but when I do I always feel 100% better. Slimfast=liquid meal, jacked one from my dad one day when I was hung as shit when I still lived with him, slammed er back, whalla cured. I now go buy one any time im gonna drink hard, and it has worked every time I SWEAR NO JOKES FOR REAL.

Just go to your local eatery/breakfast joint and smash on something... or just go to Dennys. Drink water before you sleep (duh), but try not to drink too much. Wetting the bed sucks. The worst hangovers I've ever had were when I was in college playing BP and we ran out of whatever our BP beer was after 2am. Started playing with Smniroff Ices n Guinesses n shit... You may not even go to bed feeling that drunk, but I guarantee that you'll wake up at least once during the night and once during the morning to vommit.

bread wont help you if you are allready feeling sick. Bread only helps when you dont want to get drunk as fast as normaly

alternatively my hangovers are pretty much over after I puked once so I never really had any major effects on the next day

Bacon and eggs works for me, and is easy to eat (I can struggle with a Subway sandwich, but this also works wonders).

Wash it down with hair of the dog (preferably a quality beer). The carbohydrates will be converted to glucose, providing energy. The ethanol will be preferentially broken down by an enzyme (alcohol dehydrogenase) which would otherwise be turning any methanol into toxic products. This gives you some time. Use it to flush all your problems away with lots of water.

And if you can, go for a swim (wait a bit after eating of course).

Good luck!

I don't know what you guys drink but too much vodka-o makes this happen for me, I guess too much acids in the juice. Pure vodka is usually best for me to not get a hangover at all.

1-2 litres of water BEFORE you go to sleep. You'll probably wake up feeling like your bladder is about to explode but it'll save you from a shit head. The water isnt flushing the alcohol out, it's just rehydrating your brain. Hardly any alcohol passes straight in urine, it's almost all metabolized.

Then you just have your stomach to deal with =)

Although tbh, eating anything = speeds up metablism = hangover goes quicker.

That makes some sense for me at least. I don't actually drink that much beer, it's mostly hard liquor and tends to be vodka quite often. :p

Works every time, to an extent at least. Best thing you can do is force a gallon down before hitting the deck but that's not always viable.

Gotta second the guy who said kebab, and adding left over pizza to that. Tastes fucking great while sucking up the alcohol.

word. If you can remember to just chug a shitton of water (as much as you possibly can) before falling asleep it will help enormously with the hangover in the morning.

If I take care of myself after I drink and force myself to eat something and drink water/gatorade I don't really get hangovers. Gatorade + mcdonalds works pretty good if I fuck it up though.

What is that?

My ageold recipe for hangover cure is waking up, drinking water, and not eating anything for a few hours. Then put on some cooking show, start salivating, get a pizza and watch the second half of it. Also this is best done alone with a meat-pizza that is much too big for one person.

Thinking about it now almost makes me miss being hung over. Or at least in the above way.

I know what beverage you can check off the list: Mountain Dew. I drank a whole mountain dew after a rough rough night and puked it up like 2 to 3 minutes later.

Drink water. I honestly didn't know greasy foods were good to eat after hangovers, I tend to eat light and just keep fluids going through me.

as far as my money goes, there's absolutely nothing better than rolling down to waffle house and slamming something back.

Something about a couple of fresh buttermilk waffles, hash browns smothered covered and chunked, and a couple of hungover friends and strangers at the table to help you through the dark dark times in the morning after.

of course, some of the time we don't even make it to the morning, and just end up rolling in at like, 3 in the morning!

Although if you can't stomach actual food there is a certain herb that helps tremendously with hangovers.

I think the most important thing when dealing with a hangover is lots and lots of water. And maybe some gatorade. After a long night of drinking I usually eat whatevers on hand. Eggs, and pancakes are great.

I don't get what you're trying to get at. Most of the time I just stick with my soju and beer. I'm assuming you're trying to tell me you can afford expensive alcohol?

Danmooji,

I understand the pain you are going through if these are your alcohols of choice. Soju is very unclean alcohol, with high levels of --hydes, the worst being acetaldeyhyde. This is a byproduct of inferior alcohol production in which too much oxygen is introduced during fermentation. Also, it is a product of high temperatures during primary fermentation. It is also present in the major Korean rice beers, Cass, Hite, and OB. You can detect its presence by the slight green apple flavor. You say,"green apples in BEER!!?? WHAT!?!" Trust me its there, and very subtle on the pallet.

Korean drinking culture almost champions the hangover from excessive of drinking these local alcohols.

My first recommendation to you is to try HaeJeongGuk 해정국 There are many restaurants throughout Korea where you can find it as this is the national Hangover Soup. The name means 'Hangover away soup'. It is similar to Pho but is less expensive and a bit spicier. It does not have noodles, but instead comes with a bowl of rice to the side. It also has a big chunk of beef spine in it. Yummy!!

My second recommendation is to stop drinking Soju and Korean rice beers. If you are looking for a great alternative i recommend Craftworks near Noksapyeong. They are a microbrew with reasonably priced Ales that have a lot of attention paid to their brewing process and thus are better beer in taste and chemical composition of alcohol products and byproducts. It is becoming more and more common to see imports in Korea, but as you know they are quite pricey. Craftworks brews their beer in Gapyeong, which is about an hour east of Seoul. They are afordable, local and delicious! http://craftworkstaphouse.com/

If you must drink Korean rice beer, there is a new 'formula' from OB. Look for the golden labeled bottles. This beer has the 'best' formula and brew process of all the Korean beers. It has the least 'green apple taste' and by my conclusion the least --hydes. OB is the oldest Korean brewery and is showing to be the most progressive in producing a product that could compete with other European and American corn and rice lagers. This is based on my own private 'tastings' ^o^

If you are looking to try some HaeJeongGuk or a delicious, cold pint at Craftworks, PM me. I would love to meet a TeamLiquid member for a beer and grub. This stands for anyone in Korea or with plans to visit.

Mumu

Edit: OOps my Korean isnt soo good!! HaeJangGuk 해장국 ^^

Best hangover solution; Not getting a hangover!

Seriously, drink 2 parts water for every 1 part of alcohol you have and you'll be fine.
If that's too much water or you are at a bar, mix with Orange Gatorade. It tastes pretty good and helps keep you hydrated along the way, and always drink water before you sleep.

Best hangover cure, should it happen, is saltine crackers for me. Generally, if I have a hangover, I generally have drank way way way too much and can barely move the next day. Crackers are all I can muster, but that's my go-to hangover cure :D

We have those here in Vegas but there called Robertos haha... Can't eat those after hang over because I'll still have a hangover plus the squirts haha.

I usually just drink a Gatorade/powerade before I go to bed and another one in the morning and I'm fine every time.

surprisingly this works like a charm. One time I drank over 2 bottles of scotch and then next day I had to go to the theme parks in orlando. Universal Studios to be exact.

I had gone to bed at like 5 am wasted as fuck. friend came to wake me up at 8 am. I was still somewhat drunk, but more hangover than anything feeling like complete shit and knowing I was in my way to walk around hot sun hating myself. on the way there mcddonalds drive thru, got 2 sausage and egg McMuffins, started feeling better within 25 mins!

As for hangovers, water generally does the trick for me. I drink a lot before I go to sleep, no matter how super sleepy I feel, then drink a lot more when I wake up.

Best thing is to prevent the hangover before you go to bed with lots of water and bananas or something like that.

HONEY is the best cure, because it replenishes all vital stuff that the body needs to get going again. It might seem strange but dont knock it until you have tried it.

Oh my god I'm going to the Netherlands just for that.

I usually just stick with black bread, butter and anything fried and crispy. Bacon is the end all perfect hangover choice obviously.

1-2 beers, hair of the dog

Nah but usually get some mountain dew and fanta and pure orange juice and any other drinks that look refreshing and drink the hangover away, it seems to work for me and my friends.

For really severe waking up wanting to die hangovers I like this street snack we have here called taho. It's very soft tofu with sweet syrup and is a good breakfast if your stomach can't handle more. For everything else, bacon and eggs are indeed really good hangover breakfast food. Drinking lots of water before, during, and after is the trick.

I don't get what you're trying to get at. Most of the time I just stick with my soju and beer. I'm assuming you're trying to tell me you can afford expensive alcohol?
+ Show Spoiler +

Is this why Soju is so cheap to buy? The best way to cure a hangover is to prevent it from happening of course! If I fail then I just sleep until it goes away which will require me to sleep for about 10 or more hours. Although I haven't tried any remedy food because I hate the feeling so much that I just sleep through it and with no problems so far.

My personal hangover cure was always a chicken tikka wrap from a my local awesome indian takeaway place called chatkara - it's tikka chicken wrapped in a plain naan, with lashings of garlic and chilli sauce. Not everywhere in the universe has a chatkara though, I think they're only in Clapham. And that makes me sad for you.

Depending on how violently hung over you are, a strong cup of tea with sugar in can be perfect, or can make you chunder straight up. Same deal with the standard bacon sandwich. I really think leftover curry or an equivalent to the tikka wrap is the best hangover food you can find.

there certainly are different types of hangovers

feeling not so well, feeling bad, and feeling like utter shit

in the last case I cant even drink or eat anything because Im that destroyed

Luckily those types of hangovers happen rarely (maybe twice or three times a year)

The ones you are happy you somehow survived you know.

Other than that: Now Im hungry

If you drink even amounts of water and alcohol over the night it greatly reduces the dehydration that causes the hangover the next morning, it wont be all gone but it makes it alot better

While I actually don't get hungover at all, I gotta say that this is like the best food to mix with alcohol.

What usually prevents me from getting hang over the next day is do not mix drinks. Either stick with the strong pure stuff like vodka, brandy etc.. or only beer for the night. Stay away from breezer-like drinks, leave that mixed stuff to the ladies.

It's usually not bad as long as you don't go back to beer afterwards.

Most important thing is to drink a bottle of water and take some Ibuprofene before you fall asleep. That way, you will buffer a good part of the ill effects in the morning. Ibuprofene also goes easy on your liver. Trust me, I'm a doctor.

The next morning, nothing beats the Full English Breakfast fry-up! To be served with insane amounts of salt and orange juice. Go Electrolytes and Vitamins!

Anyway, for me, for a hangover: tomato juice with olive salt and pepper. Tastes not decent, but kills hangover on its tracks in 2 hours flat for me :D.

Hands down for me, just an old fashioned breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and orange juice. It's the perfect mix of grease and carbs. Country fried potatoes are good too but I won't touch hash browns with a hangover. Loco Moco is pretty good for the same reasons but I've only had it once in Hawaii, where coincidentally I was hungover every day

I already posted, but that was more of a what-to-eat if you need to eat while still hung over and what kind of gets rid of it.

If you're in an emergency situation and need to get rid of it ASAP, get a super tall glass, fill it with V8 and add like 2 tsp. of high quality, full sodium soy sauce. It's like the most dense combination of salt, electrolytes and nutrients you can get without making yourself vomit (which makes your hangover worse. if you ever throw up you need to keep drinking fluids afterwards)

Also, wise drinking (read: mixing properly if at all) helps. I can say that I hadn't had a major hangover since I was 18.

Im calling bs on this. Alcohol itself causes throat and airway irritation, hence the perceived taste. As well as dehydration. So basically, the drinking advice is pointless, drink whatever the hell you want, its the alcohol content that matters.
Aah thats the stuff..

Do you get a fullblown hangover everytime you drink? No exactly, most often you wake up with a slight headache and a dry mouth, body energy close at zero. Then a pizza is just what you want!

When I do get a killer hangover I usally just lay in my bed all day and moans.. haha

Any1 had problems eating the day after a night filled with alcohol+weed+speed? First off I can mostly sleep like 1 h and after that I feel really hungry. But when I get my pizza I can only eat like 1 slice and then im "full". Sucks monkey dick

The answer is perfect. Order is wrong. Gatorade, Marijauana, and then McDonalds. IMO

Chug the gatorade, smoke a blunt, then an egg mcmuffin and you're good. I guess we all have our own method lol.

Usually i survive hangover with ease if im at home, since i have some waterbottles all over the place and sleeping pills + painkillers next to my bed. If i doze off at somewhere else and i forget my pills.. Its bad, sometimes its real damn bad. No god damn food can cure a real hangover, unless it magically does so withing first 2 bites.

If i have my standard morning where i have managed to kill the hangover allready by hydration + some slowly digesting food. I dont give a shit what i put into my mouth, usually its something easily obtainable like kebab/beer/whatever happens to be in the frig.

1. Coconut Water
2. Mary Jane
3. Gatorade

A night of heavy drinking will really dehydrate you, so WTF else will help you rehydrate you better than coconut water, well the actual answer is of course pickle juice but who wants to drink that, so the 2nd best is Coconut Water. Gatorade used to be my go to method, until I stumbled upon cocowater. And Marijuana is on the list because it's not a source of rehydration, but it really takes the edge off being hung over, and it's harmless when using a vaporizer so blaze it up.

If I'm hungover I don't eat, I don't drink, I don't sleep (closing my eyes makes the nausia worse). I furthermore do not sit, do not stand and do not lie.. I rather kind of 'half lie' in the bed with my back up against the wall and one foot on the ground to ease the dizzyness and try to keep myself from vomiting.

Towards the end of the day I've either given up and gone to vomit, or fallen asleep. When I wake up (to days after) I've either vomited in my sleep or I still feel somewhat like crap but most of the hangover is gone but I'm hungry as fuck. In this case I rather just get whatever's in the house. If there's only cereal and caviar (which was the case last time) I'm totally fine with that. Fuck no that I'd go out in public lol.

Imo the more interesting food choices come around 5 am when you're out partying and you're on your way home and you feel hungry and you stop to eat at some fast food joint and take a piss in the broom closet.

Edit. I really don't understand how people can go out to food joints and start cooking mega meals and shit when you're hungover.... I'd fucking throw up if I walked further than 5 meters because of the nausia, and in no fucking way would I be able to down sausages and fat food. You do that when you're drunk towards the end of the night out, not when you're back home on the next day O_o

if i have a hangover when i wake up i take an advil or ibuprofen and go right back to sleep and sleep right through the hangover which usually works out quite well also just drinking alot of water before you start to drink alcohol works out quite well because you wont be as dehydrated the next day

I hope this isn't that offtopic but if it is please redirect me. I have a general question about hangovers, it seems everytime I drink a little to much I get very lightheaded and stay that way for awhile no matter how much water I drink, should I see a doctor to get this checked out or does anyone know what is wrong with my body?

Edit:

I'll try to give a little to the main topic as well, eating Charley's Grilled Subs helps me sometimes, I like the Steak Deluxe!

The thing about me' is that if I'm really hungover I can't eat anything to save me' so I pretty much just drink tons of water and wait til my appetite comes back.

So what I've learned to do is prevention. I consider myself a bullemic alcoholic. After a night of binge drinking, before I go to sleep I throw it up while it's mixed in my stomach with whatever the heck I consumed last night. It doesn't hurt as much and I never get a hangover from do
I asked my friend how the ratio at a party was, he replied. "Let's just say for every guy there was two dudes."

I keep seeing McDonalds in here.

I don't think McDonalds is good for you, hung over or not. I tend to feel pretty ill after I eat there, but the one memory that stands out for me was the morning after a $200 night at the bar. I got the standard Egg McMuffin meal with a small coffee, and I literally had to get off the sky train every stop to go barf, and when I finally got to work, I spent 6 hours hugging the toilet. I think I would have been fine if I had skipped McDicks though, but I guess I'll never know.

Eggs and toast with a gatorade, followed up with a coffee if my stomach isn't in too much of an uproar.

I just find eating anything really helps, my friends often sit in bed all day feeling sorry for themselves while I tend to drag myself to the kitchen to devour something stationary. I usually feel much better after watching a few VODs with some food in hand. Also water really helps stave off the headache when consumed the night before the morning after

Subway works quite alright for me. I think it helps me quite a bit if I can get myself up and moving instead of waiting for the real agony to kick in, so anything you actually have to go pick up is good.

I'm a little bit hungover right now, and just looking at that English breakfast made me want to vomit X_X

My Mexican roommate made the best hangover food ever, but I don't remember the name... it had eggs, sliced potatoes, onions, peppers, and a few other ingredients I can't remember fried together. Anyone know the name of it?

Edit:
Fact: fat bowls cure hangovers. They also make class/work really difficult, so only on weekends.

Preventing it is the way to go, but as mentioned earlied thats not always viable. When it does, hangover strikes me in two different ways, one where I constantly puke and have a terrible headache, then this goes on in circles and I find it hard to sleep. The only known counter is a cold room, pills and some water. Usually the water comes straight back up, and so with the pills, but overall the trick is to achieve sleep.

This is very rare tho, and I kinda deserve it when it strikes.

The other one is basic hangover, wich is best countered by foods, thats why this OP is good! Favourites like greasy junk-food has been mentioned, but I must say i disagree. Healthy food with lots of fruits and vegetables gives the best results all over in my case. I try to avoid too much juice as it can be hard on the stomach, but water in plenty and some sushi from the local place always gets me back in game!

water water water. The headache part of a hangover is your dehydrated, shriveled brain bouncing around inside your skull. If you're like me, caffeine addiction could contribute to a headache as well, depending on how late you slept in and when you got your last fix. A little coffee, a lot of water, and something like toast that isn't going to upset the stomach is my cure.

i must say that (from experience) the best thing you can do, is at night (and morning)
drink A LOT of water
The main reason you feel bad is because theres to much % of alcohol in your body
which can be lowered by drinking more water.
and dehydration, which can be also solved by drinking water

I was too lazy to walk to a Ramen Restaurant. So, as so often: Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki and a minced meat sausage, wrapped in bacon. The greasier, the better and better add more sauce then less.
Some discount 7-eleven sports drink. Those drinks like Pocari Sweat are great for hangovers anyway.
When I resort to cigarettes or coffee the day after, I'm dead, again. :p

By fish soup do you mean bouillabaisse? I'd have thought that was WAY too strong a flavour to cope with when hung over.

Kebab. Because I lived in London for 3 years and that is the only thing open 24/7 across the capital.

Plus it's greasy and delicious and completely unhealthy. Just the sort you are supposed to eat when you feel like s***.

Step 1: Drink a ton of water. Right when you wake up drink atleast one glass right off the bat.

Step 2: Eat the greasiest food you can get. Macdonalds or something. It kind of nullifies the awful taste in your mouth.

Step 3: Rest.

Step 4: Be allright again.

Yes do this. You basically piss the poison out of your system.

Also inducing vomiting can make you feel better.

This does absolutely nothing once you start digesting the alcohol (within 15-20 minutes of swallowing)

It actually just dehydrates you more and causes the usual damage throwing up causes

If you're drunk, before you go to sleep make yourself a lemonade, and I'm not talking some shop bought shit. Take a lemon, sqeeze it into a glass (yep, a whole f*in lemon), water, some sugar if you can't stand the sour taste and drink it (fast ).

Your hang over won't be so bad after that drink, it always helps me :-)

The trick is... when you're drunk it's not hard to forget about it ("beeeeed... must go to... bed").

In the morning, something fat Z(mcdonald is fine) and lots of water.
Hey dude, nice shot.

I am always really good about drinking like 2 glasses of water right before I pass out. This helps soooooo much!

Also, i drink another 2 glasses when I wake up. You start to feel better like 45mins after. Then I eat something like french toast or pancakes.

Man I am getting hungry O.O

Oh my god.. I'm drooling. I miss Döner Kebab so much! That was all I ate after clubbing in my trip to Germany a few years back. I loved how the food vendors would walk around at night. The Döner Kebab is definitely one of my most memorable foods I've had even though it's not quite German cuisine. Now if only they were more popular in the States.

This is an interesting thread! I think there is a cultural element surrounding the answers.

I have a feeling that the hangover of an Asian or Mediterranean would be very mild compared to the answer of a Swede, Brit or German xD

I just cant imagine a Brit or Swede being able to cook anything at all after a night out LOL

But the best way for me to prevent a hangover is a nice chicken kebab on my way home. If I do get a hangover then it's water and sleep, followed by a ready-meal and more sleep.

Any 'greasetruck' or 'fat sandwich' from Rutgers area in New Jersey.

Here's a sample, the most famous one that got "Best Sandwich in the USA" in 2003 or 2006 or something, the Fat Darrel:

"Dubbed the Fat Darrell Sandwich we’re looking at a humongous roll carrying chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, marinara sauce, French fries, lettuce and tomatoes. I bet this would go great with a Root Beer. Just saying."

Other alternatives include ingredients like honey mustard, bacon, eggs, cheesesteak, jalapeno poppers, falafel, the list goes on and on... Usually ~1600 calories per sandwich.

All this mention of "Pho" has me interested. I've never had this delicious looking food and will be researching which Vietnamese restaurants have the best food in my area.

I rarely get hangovers anymore but still, this could be clutch.

Anyways, I'm pretty responsible about drinking a good amount of water during or after my heavy drinking sessions. I always have Gatorade in my fridge so that definitely helps in the morning (or more realistically, afternoon). As for food, Goldfish crackers help me out when I'm in need.

fried anything, just pull something out of the fridge as you stumble about the kitchen, throw some butter and anything meaty in the pan and cook it, your ability to season it and add additional ingredients depends on the severity of the hang over

Bolthouse Farms fruit drinks are AMAZING and they work wonders for a hangover. You can probably find them in your local store they seem to be pretty common these days. But they taste great, and are packed with lots of good hangover recovery stuff and made with all real fruit so it fills you up to without throwing grease and nasty shit in your stomach which will probably make you feel worse. Just a personal recomendation but it works great and tastes great. cant go wrong with that, son

New Mexican (the original) Breakfast Burrito

Eggs, Potatoes, Cheese, A breakfast meat (I always choose bacon, but the carne adovada is amazing), and Green Chile.

What is green chile, you ask? I call it "ambrosia", green Anaheim chile peppers. They have an amazing balance of flavor and heat, one taste and you will be hooked. You don't know what you're missing!!

Here in Macedonia depending on the season we have few different stuff. And by far the best way to end a hangover in 5 mins is eating sour cabbage(spelling?) and drinking like 1/3 glass of the liquid it's put in, made in what we call Turshija. It contains an enormous amount amount of Vitamin C which helps a lot with hangovers. Unfortunately this is only available from late autumn through early spring. As for other seasons, any kind of soup or chorba will help since you need electrolytes as well as liquids to make up for the loss during the binging.

Anything that's greasy is good both before and after drinking. Things like chicken soup, spaghetti, etc. For a drink the day after sour things work great like grapefruit juice or, what i found to work the best is the water from jar of pickled cucumbers - works wonders.

To Understand how to cure a hangover first you need to understand what is making you feel so bad.
firstly you are suffering from alcohol poisoning. don't kid yourself. fortunately you won't die from it at this level.
When you are highly intoxicated you generally have no problems falling asleep (or passing out) unless there are other substances in the mix. however when you are sleeping drunk you don't actually fall into deep sleep so even after 8 or 9 hours sleep you will be tired but may be wide awake.
Secondly alcohol is a diuretic so you get dehydrated from consuming alcohol.
Thirdly there is a break down product called acetaldehyde produced from alcohol metabolism that causes all the other symptoms of your hang over. There is no cure for the high levels of acetaldehyde in your body but time - you have to wait it out.
Having said that having a drink of water and something to eat before going to bed helps
when I used to drink heavely i used to follow this formula in the morning:
1 glass water with multivitamins
powerade (sports drink with electrolytes)
double whopper meal
go back to bed about 5-6 hours after i woke up the first time

I think the Dutchies on these parts will recognise this

Called a Kapsalon, wich is: Shoarma or Doner kebab, mixed with fries and topped off with molten cheese. Add sause and sambal and you have yourself a hangover killer ^^

For me its KFC potato and gravy plus or minus the chips and chicken in large quantities. Will offset probably a good few days of gym but meh getting rid of that headache is worth it.

isnt a hangover signfying the fact that your body is dehydrated as alcolhol increases the absorption of water in your body.. hence
drinking a lot of water/fluids is the way to go! :D

I don't drink heavily enough to get hangovers too often, but imagine the best possible food would be a breakfast burrito from Roberto's Taco Shop. Absolutely amazing and freaking huge.

Bacon or Ham (I prefer ham since it's thick chunks), cheese, eggs, potatos all on a massive tortilla. So good. I just went out and got one for proleague finals. ^^

Eggs, fried are the best. They have some chemical substances that help dissolving alcohol. I'm Polish and we know how to deal with hangover

Fast food, preferably burgers.

McDonald's when I'm broke
A&W when I'm feel like something tasty.

My ex-girlfriend and I put on some pounds with the vicious cycle of drinking beer then hittin up A&W for hangover food haha.

Wow we clearly don't have the same hang overs...

I had a glass of milk sunday morning and puked 3 times, all i could eat till 7pm was 4 raw tomatoes.

Like others have already pointed out, there's a difference between food for late night drunken snacks, and food for hangovers.

Having said that, everything on this thread looks insane

Puking 3 times sounds perfect to me... at least the only time I ever puked in the morning I slept some more afterwards and then didn't have a hangover whatsoever

What in the fuck. Why can't I have shit like this in Sweden

When I have hangovers I usually just fry up tons of bacon and drink alot of water. Usually does the trick for the regular hangovers.

I love garlic soup for hangover...the stronger the better, it's basically just a beef or chicken stock, cheese, beated egg and lots of garlic with some seasoning. You can add fried bread. Easy, cheap, delicious and scales with your hangover...the worse you feel the more garlic you add ^_^

i rarelly need it though, perhaps i'm too young for hangovers ^_^

Gatorade, greasy food like mcdonalds burgers. Having a shot of jager apparently works magic too. And of course a ton of water.
