How come vampires aren't affected by blood types? Like what if a Vampire with O+ blood tries to drink the blood of someone who is AB+?
I'm guessing nothing happens, because they're digesting the blood and not having it enter their own bloodstream. Also they're vampires. But the question still stands!
Disclaimer: My understanding of biology is comically poor.

You basically answered your own question.
In the same way that you don't have a problem when eating a cow liver, but would have major problems if you tried replacing your liver with that same cow liver, a vampire has no problem drinking your blood, but would have problems with a blood infusion.

Vampires need to drink blood to sustain themselves right? What are they gaining from blood that they can't gain from other foods?
|
How do you deal with people who starts to shout and offend when you politely challenge their point of view?

Depending on the fantasy setting at hand, vampires are oftentimes regarded as lacking their own hemoglobin or red blood cells such that they need to drink blood to supplement their own circulatory system. Naturally, this implies that vampiric digestion works differently than in humans.

Dear Frudgey and Simberto,
Actually, this is a common misconception. Most of the blood consumed by a vamire goes directly into his blood stream. His fangs are specially fortified blood vessels; the part that isn't taken up is consumed however. Vampires get their biological immunity by trimming (or adding in case of type O) the bloodtypes to type V (for Vampirices). They do this through their fangs. The inside is laced with enzymes cutting off the sugars that represent the A en B serotypes. Then when the blood reaches their heart (in vampires, this organ is enlarged), it is specially dedicated (next to pumping it around of course) to adding the V serotype to the red blood cells. White blood cells and all that might interfere with the vampire's blood are immediately destroyed upon contact with the vampire itself, kind of like how a bat or mosquito injects something to keep the hosts blood not turn into a clot. Normal humans can make blood and do so all the time. But vampires lose the ability to do that once they've been turned into vampires, that's one of the two reasons they ned to drink it. Now it is believed that the V serotype is party the source of their superhuman abilities and completely the reason they need to keep drinking it. It's very unstable you see and that's the other reason! Every biological compound has a half life, and with vampires, the type V blood cell has one of 2 days. So half the blood they consumed is already destroyed once consumed a victim's blood 2 days ago! Some are more resistant to this half life and that's to do with the genetic differences each vampire has the moment they changed into a vampire. You see, to create a vampire, you don't just need to be sucked dry, you also need to have DNA injected into your blood by the vampire. It can be looked at as a viral package (like HIV), which will nest itself into the hosts DNA (partly in the heart, partly in brain and muscles etc etc) and turn on its vampiric genetic program and hijack/transform its host in that way, while still maintaining (largely) the identity of the host. Hope that answers your question! You can find this knowledge and more in the extensive online placed journal: https://www.journalofvampirology.com But if you like some more in depth knowledge, you can always stop by my office to get some more insight into the inner workings of a vampire.
Yours truly, Dr. Vladimir, Agulans, Antico

"Let's talk about something else".
"Bye" if they've been sufficiently offensive.

assume that there's something wrong with your own definition of politeness, because people don't actually respond that way to polite challenges.
At least if it's a repeated scenario. Individuals can always be crazy.

I had another inane question.
Assuming the following are true: 1) The moon reflects sunlight. 2) The moon has a similar constitution to that of soil/rocks on earth
Then why does the moon trigger werewolf transformations, yet the sun does not? Shouldn't the sun make people into super werewolves? What distinguishing characteristic would the moon have that would trigger transformation?

I have very little to add other than speculation that there's a gravitational relationship influence.

Maybe something like a certain wavelength triggers the transformation? I feel like I've seen movies before where they science up artificial ways to trigger the lycanthropy transformation with a certain type of light.

Most pseudo scientific explanations go with that the following aren't true: 1) The moon reflects sunlight. 2) The moon has a similar constitution to that of soil/rocks on earth

Its the moon. So not the Sun. So its distinct.
You should reframe this question a bit and ask in some astrology forum.

Dear Frudgey,
Ah, the age old luminous dichotomy. Not only are quantitative and qualitative aspects of the light important (the perceived color of the moon is different than that of the sun), but certain wavelengths actually quench the ability to transform. Shape is also an extremely important attribute, otherwise people would turn every time there was a moon. We've tested this in the lab and were even able to acquire a partial transformation at a certain point. Technology is currently being developed that will be able to completely transform werewolves to their raw, powerful state at any given time. This is part of the arms race between vampires and werewolves. They are developing sun light mimics to evaporate vampires on the street for example. Another aspect to consider is heat. We know the lack of it during nighttime is somehow related to the transformation process, but haven't pinpointed exactly how this works. Evidence for this comes in the form of delayed transformation (but eventually a full transformation was acquired) during a full moon while extensive heat was applied to werewolves. Hope that helps you along!
Sincerely, Dr. Vladimir, A., Antico
PS Are you sure you don't want to visit my lab? It would be quite the transformative experience in my opinion.

Because the moon pulls the werewolf gene closer to the surface of your skin when it is full. The bunny in the moon attracts the canine gene and manifests itself through metamorphosis.

Guys, guys, in reality, the sun exerts a far greater gravitational force on the Earth than does the moon on Earth, by about 100 times. Just saying. I mean if you aren't going for a full magic explanation, at least keep the pseudoscience plausible.
