Somehow after Mesopotamian and Greek sewers, humanity mostly abandoned any complex version. Wasn't until the late 1800's and early 1900's we dove back into sewer development with any remotely significant engineering improvements. For thousands of years sewers remained mostly unimproved in city design or functionality then out of desperation from people dying in the street and unbearable odors they slapdashed something together. It's probably not a terrible idea to take another look at how we do it.

How do you know? Cities grow organically, it's houses packed next to each other, then sewage being added. It might be more of a hassle trying to wedge it in, calculating efficiency, rearranging infrastructure and what not. How did the story go in the US when cities were actually planned? I'm pretty sure they didn't account for certain feature of modern day life, it was probably more like: get as many people housed as possible in this area.

Most of our early sewers were basically just shit/runoff streams that were dumped into rivers and lakes. The whole water treatment part came after most US cities already had their main centers. Sewage treatment (beyond harvesting fertilizer) has been an after thought right up until the mid 1900's and the EPA

Anyways all this to say that I am pretty sure it would be pretty inefficient in a large city environment. https://www.orenco.com/products/treatment-systems is the type that I am familiar with and I am pretty sure you can find some numbers in there for filtration footprint per bedroom/occupant (i can tell you one "pod" handles 500 gallons per day off the top of my head) etc if you really care and then compare with some of the larger operations but obviously it doesnt really answer your question. btw there is no question at all that there is far superior waste treatment technology than currently in use in most places in the US. like with anything updating to current technology is expensive.

Or are you maybe not talking about playing, but about watching replays? The OpenBW replay viewer allows for viewing replays in higher resolutions (meaning there is more stuff on screen), and at higher speeds than normal. http://www.openbw.com/replay-viewer/
